We've been cluttering up the other topic with a bunch of WoW talk, so I figured we should probably split off and keep the WoW talk in here since it's a perpetual thing. Feel free to post below with your toons (name, race, class, level, server, etc). Use this for WoW discussion. I'll keep this original post updated.

Also, there has been talk of having an official Mafiascum server for a bunch of scummers to play on together, so we should try to come to a decision on that.

I kinda wanna make a Worgen or a Goblin. IHSIB - since you seem to want a Goblin too, why don't you create a Goblin on Lightnings Blade?

Or we can go to an active Ally server and make a Worgen and a Dwarf there. It's up to you.

Step 1, make a Horde character (preferably on my server). Alliance is for noobs.

Okay, serious step one: loot everything, sell it. Kill everything in your path at the beginning of the game. WoW has a questhelper thing built into it now, so if you go to your map you'll see exactly where you need to go for each quest. Do quests in bulk - accept all the ones you see in an area, then go out and do them ALL, then come back and turn them back in.

Once you hit level 15, start using the dungeon finder while you quest. You can queue for a dungeon and while you wait to get into one, do quests/kill shit. It's the quickest way to level.

Another big tip: know what stats are important for your class. If you're a rogue wearing gear with intellect and spirit, you're doing it VERY VERY WRONG.

Not a must-do, but a bit of advice... create a damage-dealing class for your first character instead of a tank or healer. MOST classes are DPS or have the capability to deal damage pretty well, but you have to be careful with which spec you choose. Ask for advice here after you pick your class and have hit level 10.

Do you want to be up-close-and-personal with melee type combat? Do you want to do ranged damage? Do you want a minion/pet who does most of the damage for you?

Logging out in an inn/major cities gives you rested (2x) experience while you're logged out. It helps a lot with leveling.

As for class suggestions: Warrior, Rogue, and Druid are all up-in-your-face fighting types. Warrior is...well, warrior. Druid has the ability to shapeshift into different forms (feral cat/panther form for quick damage, feral bear form for tanking/withstanding a lot of damage). Rogue has the ability to creep up behind people and deal quick, fast damage. Also, rogues are the only class that can dual-wield from the start.

PROTIP: Pressing 'O' brings up your friends list.

Once you find a good guild and are able to start using the dungeon finder, you'll enjoy the social aspect of the game a lot more. I mean, of course there are going to be dickheads in the random dungeon queue every once in awhile, but for the most part everyone's nice and friendly.

I completely agree. Eastern Plaguelands... well, really, the entirety of the Undead leveling path, is fucking awesome. I just finished up Badlands last night on my Lvl 50 Undead Rogue, and so far I'm STILL loving every minute of it. My usual trick is to run 2-3 instances per leveling zone, and I'm questing with my boyfriend, therefore I rarely ever die, so questing takes no time at all. It's taking me, on average, ~45minutes per level right now. Though, once you hit 60, it becomes paaaaaaaainfully slow. The average time to level from 70-80 is now about 3 hours per level if you're doing constant questing/queuing, so enjoy the speedy levels while it lasts.

In other news, Brock & I convinced dramonic to start playing WoW. That means it's only a matter of time before Brock starts playing Mafia, too

Brock & I already have our own Horde guild on LB called Lazercanonpewpew, so we could just use that as the unofficial MS.net guild for now. It's just me, Brock, and two of my RL friends that rarely play anymore.

I've been hesitant to try out any of the actionbar mods because they scare me. I would say Auctioneer is my most useful addon. For ones that haven't been mentioned:

-Bagnon: Contains all your bag windows into one single window. Easier organization of bags.
-SWDeathWatch: For any shadow priests, this simple mod watches the enemy's health bar for when it drops below 25%, then notifies you it is time to use SW: Death with a 'FINISH HIM' that pops up.
-Recount: I use this as my DPS meter. Some people prefer Skata. Either one works, though I've found Recount to be more accurate.
-InFlight Taxi Timer: Puts a small cooldown bar in the center of the screen while taking taxi flights from one place to the next so you know exactly how long you don't have to pay attention.

As far as the actionbar mods go...which one is really the most recommended? My boyfriend uses bartender4, but I've seen so many options I don't know what to do.
Also, Flameaxe: is PlayerScore still the standard for comparing gearscore, or does Rating Buster work too?

Mage or Rogue are probably the easiest starting classes. Mage is straightforward CAST SPELLS PEW PEW PEW and Rogue is straight forward GET UP IN HIS FACE AND HIT HIM WITH FAST AND AWESOME MOVES/SNEAK UP BEHIND HIM IN THE SHADOWS AND BACKSTAB HIM.

Hunter... I don't like Hunters, because pet management can get really fucking obnoxious. "Oh, I'm sad, you fed me prime rib instead of a goddamn apple! Oh, now I'm angry and doing 75% less damage because you haven't let me kill anything in a long time." Fuck off, you fucking twat.

I've always really liked mages. Level in frost so you can get the water elemental companion to help out with damage mitigation. I just started a warlock on Lightning's Blade, and I kinda like it so far, but I really miss the power of direct damage instead of DoTs. Warlocks are cool, though, because the voidwalker can tank for you.

Everyone is exaggerating how hard it is to level a mage. It's really not that bad. Priests, however, are a pain in the ass. I'm so proud that my main character is a Priest, and I'm almost at Level 84. Soon I won't have to deal with soloing -_-

Tonight was kinda fun. Some guy asked for help because he was being harassed by a Level 61 ally, so me/dram/Brock went to go help him out.

herp derp it turned into an all out PvP war, which then lead to us forming a raid group and royally fucking up Honor Hold. Yeah yeah, it's just Honor Hold, not Stormwind, but it was still a fun, spontaneous excursion nonetheless.

...then five ally pricks started camping me/dram/Brock and were knocking us off our mounts, so I ragequit'd.

Third off, all your lack of WoTLK does is make you unable to create a Death Knight or visit Northrend. I think. Oh yeah, and it raises the level cap to 80. Cataclysm allows you to create Goblins and Worgens, allows you to fly in Azeroth once you hit level 60, and raises the level cap to 85.

You'll be good just leveling vanilla WoW (which is actually a billion times more fun than the Burning Crusade/Wrath of the Lich King zones now, thanks to the Cata redesign) for awhile until you can pick up the expansions. When you do get the expansions, I'd recommend trying to find a combo pack that contains all three, you'll probably get it for way cheaper.

Warriors can DPS too, not just tank. DPS warriors are dual wielders IIRC.

Hunters are pretty bad in endgame right now, a lot of people stopped playing their Hunters due to a bunch of stuff Blizzard fucked up in Cata, but the vast majority of that is being fixed in 4.0.6, which is coming out in the next couple of weeks, so you should be good.

I find it stressful to have to manage my pet AND my toon, but some people like having the extra firepower. Or, if you prefer, you can get a pet that's a tank (like a bear or crab) and you will hardly ever get touched while solo questing.

First off, you were talking about us not having enough guildies to raid, to which I pointed out that we're progressing and will soon have 6-7 people at level 85. You THEN went on to bring up "not enough achievements", and that is when I said "Who cares about achievements?". Also, for us "not getting achievements", or "not caring about achievements", you should probably tell BBM to stop doing battlegrounds for the sole purpose of getting all the Slayer achievements, and you should probably tell dram/Kai/BBM to stop wasting time running every old world heroic and every expansion heroic in order to get the guild run achievements for those, and you should probably tell everyone else that leveling up isn't doing enough to contribute to the guild achievements.

We did build this guild. Not everyone is officers yet because we have like eight fucking members total, so if we make everyone officers and then start recruiting, how is that going to fucking look?

Seriously, don't dish it out if you can't take it. You flung so much shit at everyone, especially towards me. I get it, I can take some ribbing, and I took it all in good stride. Then the first time Kai & BBM start teasing you about your inability to tank, you flip a shit and leave the guild. Then, after you come back, you continue with the ribbing, so I continue with poking fun via MotD and guild notes.

The fact of the matter is that you left behind a group of people who I *thought* you were friendly with (hell, Brock sits back a lot and go 'Okay, I like tans') because we weren't "progressing" fast enough for you. Sorry for flipping like I did... and if you had a problem with the MotD and officer notes, fucking tell me it's actually bothering you instead of throwing a hissy fit. You pulled Thans because you wanted to raid, then you showed up and pulled Tans because "this guild is boring me so much I actually started leveling an alt over the weekend". I have no hard feelings. The only difference between officers and regular members is that officers can change the guild MOTD. Dram has a special rank with regular guild powers + unlimited withdrawals because he's always organizing the bank tabs into convenient setups.

Everyone can invite. I have it setup so that if we invite a newbie who invites all his friends they can't just raid the guild bank (hence when people are first invited, they are an Initiate, not a Member). Nobody that's actually been in the guild actively is an Initiate. The only thing about Veterans is that they can change guild info/message of the day. Everyone has 3 bank withdrawals per day. I'll up it if you want. 3 is the default and I never changed it.

We can discuss a structure.

All current guild members are still members. New recruits will stay as initiates until further notice.

I will start promoting old members to veterans and initiates to members as we get more initiates. I'm looking at, in the future, having all the MS.net players be Veterans with a whole slew of recruits to fill our member/initiate slots. I'm thinking there should some sort of standard for contribution to the guild, i.e., doing a certain amount of guild runs in instances/heroics, or contribution to the guild bank, or helping with questing, or something to that nature.

Though I think that's a bit overambitious for our guild until we have some solid numbers. I'm thinking something like this:

Guild Master

: Obviously, this will be me, since I have Guild Master control already. I take care of administrative things, deal directly with officer promotions, etc.

Untitled Council Position

: I would imagine this being a handful of people who take on "second-in-command" duties. They will have most, if not all, of the same powers as the Guild Master. We can assign each one to a special category, like one is in charge of the Guild Bank, one is in charge of recruitment, one is in charge of organizing guild events/heroic nights/raids/etc, you get the idea.

Veteran

: Someone who has been in the guild for a long period of time (aka all the Mafiascum members, and Brock) and has shown their dedication to the guild. They've gone above and beyond a normal member and are rewarded with more withdrawals from the guild bank.

Member

: A new recruit who has proven themselves past the two week trial period and is now allowed access to the guild bank (with set number of withdrawals per day).

Recruit

: Any new recruit must go through a two week waiting period as a Recruit before they can be advanced to member status. Recruits have no privileges other than guild chat.

Probation

: Same thing as a recruit, only an account goes to Probation after a month of inactivity, in which they have a set amount of time to become active again before being removed from the guild.

As far as what kind of guild we want to be, I'd say for now we should focus on leveling/PvE with instances/heroics, and once we're at the point where we have the members for raiding, we can set up some sort of raiding structure. It'll be a long time before we can do 25-mans, but it shouldn't take us too long to do 10-mans. Essentially, we'd want one or two different people who could lead a raid, with dedicated raiders in the guild.

I wouldn't mandate anything. People can play for whatever they want to play for. I doubt we'll ever get to 25-man levels of raiding, but 10-man is fine with me.

I'll create a standing for alts like "Member, 2nd Div." and "Veteran, 2nd Div." for alts aligning with main ranks.

Bank management is one, recruitment is one, raiding can be one. Ideally, I'd also like to get one of each class into an upper rank so that anyone who has questions about a certain class has someone in the guild to go to.

Okay, we need to decide what our guild recruitment message is going to be.

Obviously, I'd say that we're focused on leveling, primarily, but we can also mention that we're working to form 10-man raid groups. People are gonna want to know what our "primary" raiding nights are: how does Thursday & Sunday sound to everyone?

Aside from that, we need some help with recruiting. I'd suggest everyone create a macro with the guild's advertisement in it so they can just click a button and send it to General chat wherever they are. We just need to know what the message should say, exactly.

Second off, raids attract more people, and most people hate PUGs, so it'd be nice to have a guild raiding group for anyone who wants to.

Okay, so Brock has started dicking around in Dreamweaver & Fireworks to try and put a site together, but if you check the MotD, he could really use some more help with it.

By the way, awesome job on the new recruits guys. Now make sure we're all actually active and online when they are so they feel like we're not an abandoned ghost town.

He was one of the original four people to found the guild, and the other two have left, so he definitely deserves some recognition for that. JD, I tried to explain this earlier.

#1) The lack of communication wasn't on my part. It was on yours. You said you volunteered to make a website; I said okay; Then I heard nothing else. Brock, who doesn't even read this forum, informed me last night, "Oh, by the way, I downloaded Dreamweaver so I could work on a guild website," and I told him, "Oh, well I know JD mentioned something about making a website, you should check with him," and his response was to send out a message to the entire guild letting them know that we should all start collaborating on a website. who is working on a website and who isn't, but JD, you had no communication with us about the fact that you were working on one past "I'll do it!", and Brock wasn't "completely ignoring" your work on a site by working on one, he was taking initiative… and he clearly did your efforts, otherwise he wouldn't have changed the message of the day.

#2) I have power because I'm the Guild Master. That's it. Otherwise, I haven't done a damn thing besides change ranks around. You yourself even nominated dramonic to be in charge of the Guild Bank… which, besides me being the GM, is still the only real leader/power role in the guild. Brock sat me down and talked to me and expressed his concerns over the fact that he & I started this guild (from the original purchase of the charter and everything), and he gets very little recognition for that. There was never an oligarchy - if it was just "Reck and all his friends lalalalala" then my friends Kole, Lauralee, and Stacey would have power in the guild. They don't. I've asked multiple times for Council position suggestions and everyone has pretty much ignored me. Nobody's really stepped up with any ideas, or any eager volunteers for the Council, so I cannot be blamed for there not being enough officers.

Dram has power because everyone agreed to it, I have power because hurr-durr I am the Guild Master, and Brock, who didn't even HAVE power until TODAY, is being made a co-GM because he was there from the start and does deserve some form of power/leadership in the guild itself.

#3) Don't say "members". It's "member". It's tans. Nobody chased him away. He left because we weren't raiding enough. And by the way, it isn't just me that was acting like that towards him. A majority of the members were saying things in Guild Chat, too, and generally disliked the way and the reasons he left the guild.

#4) I fail to see how I am "power-hungry". I mean, seriously, this is like a ten-person guild on a MMORPG. What kind of power do I wield, exactly? I can… edit nametags on the guild bank… and change ranks. You are crying that I'm power hungry because I made Brock a co-GM… well, that's literally the ONLY decision I've made non-democratically. Yes, we're all founders. Unfortunately, there can't be ten GMs. That's why I made a proposal (one would say… democratically) and presented my plan for tiers in the guild, what each role should do, and so on and so forth. Dram was fine with it, AGar was fine with it, you responded to the post and didn't raise any issues, Kairyuu was fine with it, and BBM was fine with it.

I then came to you guys asking people what kind of focus they wanted. Your contribution so far has been to ask questions (to me, generally) about what kind of guild we want, what our focus is, what our requirements are… after I've brought these things to the rest of you to decide on. I've done nothing in a non-democratic fashion other than promoting Brock, and that was for no reason other than the fact that he helped pitch in to get the guild started, buy our first bank tab, get things rolling. We didn't consult him at all on changing the guild name, or setting up the ranks, or anything. He hasn't been a part of the democratic process, and him being set up as a co-GM is a show of good faith that despite the fact he can't communicate with us forum-wise, he's still important to the guild as a whole.

I wish you would reconsider your stance, here, because I do not see how I'm this power-hungry, dictator that has seized control of Modus Operandi. If you want, I'll even hand control over to a neutral party who everyone can agree on, like dramonic. I do not care about being a Guild Master, I just want to play the fucking game and have a good group of people to do it with.

Well, JD, I told you I'd step down to prove I don't care about the power involved. And everyone else seemed to be okay with it. The structure I would like to set up is this:

HierarchyGuild Master ~ A function-only role, possibly someone's Level 1 alt that won't actually be used much, only there to change Rank, Rank Permissions, and Bank Tab Permissions.

Council ~ An odd number of people, each one in charge of a separate area. This would ideally include whoever has Guild Master privileges, so that the Council can carry out their demands through the use of the GM power. We have to vote on Council positions, though.

Veteran ~ Any member who has proved their worth to the guild long enough and does not want a Council position/doesn't win a Council election.

Member ~ Standard guild member.

Recruit ~ Trial period for two weeks after they originally join.

Probation ~ Someone who has been inactive, or has committed a rule infraction.

Council PositionsSo far, I've figured out that we could potentially use the following roles. The council as a whole will make executive decisions, but these roles would focus specifically on certain things. The names, obviously, can change.

The Banker ~ Organizes/moderates what goes in and out of the bank, to an extent.

Public Relations ~ Specifically deals with recruiting.

Human Resources ~ The go-to person for any interpersonal conflict within the guild.

Raid Leader ~ Person who is responsible for leading the raids and knowing the fight information (when we get there, which will be sooner than we all expect).

Someone-Who-Organizes-Guild-Calendar-Shit ~ I don't have a name for this role, but essentially they would make sure Guild Events get posted, and they would (ideally) also be responsible for knowing what achievements we have left to get in order to properly create events/groups for raids/achievements.

I'm open to any other ideas you can think of.

DemocracyOnce every [x] period of time, Council positions will be voted on by Members/Veterans, and the Guild Master will be chosen by the Council, from the Council. We would need to have a Council election NOW, and we would need to decide on the different positions within the Council before going ahead with the actual election. Unless someone has a different idea, I don't see how we could just have a free-for-all for every council position available.

WebsiteJD has a specific design/layout in mind for the website, AGar has offered to help with coding, and Brock has set something up as an "in the meantime" type thing. Everyone can find the current temporary website here. You can sign up for the site using your WoW login and characters, and everything is streamlined into the site itself. Brock is more interested in the management/upkeep side of things than he is the actual coding/design of the website (though obviously he wants to be involved in that), but I think the Guildzilla site works for now. AGar is looking into ways to route WoWhead data and Armory data directly into a custom-built site. The three of you could collaborate (and anyone else, for that matter) on putting the whole website together.

AGar has already signed up (as did I, and Brock) and I would like to move all guild-related discussion to the temporary site so that everyone can read along, not just MS.net people. Forums are being set up as we speak so they should be good to go fairly soon.

In conclusion, this is democratic. I don't care about power, and I believe the above system can keep power in-check as well as give people a direct say in who runs what, and who has what abilities.

I'm not discussing the matter any further. It's been discussed to death, apologized for, and everyone else but you seems to have moved past it. I'd like to move on to actually improving the guild.
