I like this very much. I know I'm pretty new, but I wouldn't mind starting fresh every few months or so to check out new things. On xbox, I usually end up doing this after a month or two anyway because I get bored/new update/etc. so starting fresh on PC would not be anything new. The fact that we could get a copy of the world is a huge plus, too!

So, I wanted to try out Tinkers Construct. It took me a bit to figure out how to make it work, with Maruchan's help. He said I should post this. If you want to try it and you're mod-illiterate like me, here's what I did to play with it in SP (using FTB):

Save both of the following zip files to the instMod folder in your chosen modpack in your FTB folder (NOT DW20 - I used Ultimate) If you've never used the modpack before, you'll need to launch it and FTB will create the folders cuz they won't be there otherwise.

- Download Tinkers Construct for 1.4.7 here
- Download Forge 7.7.1.675 or above here (click the universal link)

Note: DO NOT unzip anything.

- Launch FTB and choose the modpack you saved it to.

I'm sure I did something wrong or stupid, but this worked for me. I'm also sure most of you understand the mod shizz better than I do too, lol... but if you don't, this should help.

This is not even a major "content" mod, as you guys say (like IC2 was). I don't understand why it was even posed, tbh. I voted because I could, but I don't really care. It's not going to break the game either way and in all honesty, it doesn't add anything to our existing mods, or anything really game-changing. I'm surprised it wasn't nixed out the gate.

If I could give my two cents... I don't want to hear about all this stuff.

I don't have a lot of experience with mods, so my vote/input would be ill-informed. I want to be able to trust the admin team to determine the value of mod additions based on their experience (after all, is that not why those people are admins? I hope so). If I come across something I think would be interesting, I'd probably install it myself first and check it out so I could say something about it to the admin team. And at that point, I'd do it privately. IF and/or when the admin team decides it's something that could or would add some significant value to the game, then I would expect the community to be asked, but only after the admins look at all aspects of it regarding mod interactions, etc, given their experience. Because you know what happens when the community decides on something before the above has occurred? I blow up nodes and wisps run wild, that's what.

IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING ON VANILLA DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO CHANGE THE VERSION YOU ARE USING WITH THE DEV LAUNCHER, HERE'S THE SOLUTION:

1. Open dev launcher.
2. Go to profile editor tab at the top.
3. Double click the profile listed (should be "(default)")
4. Where it says, "Use Version", choose the version of the server.
5. Name it whatever....
6. Save profile. Click play. NOW IT WORKS. When the server gets updated, just change it the same way.

That was a lot of text and I read most of it. I dont know if the below is encompassed in one of A-B-C, but here's what I think:

Stable set of mods between updates. As the game gets updated, perhaps a review of the mods would be in order, given any bugs brought to the attention of the admin team, and consider new mods

at that time

, What I DON'T want is frequent restarts, though a restart every 9 - 12 months might not be bad. A constant server that never changes is boring and WOULD stagnate, but mixing it up too much/too often doesn't give the stability most people (I think) might be more comfortable with.

As it stands right now, there seems to be a VERY IMPORTANT POST about the server weekly, if not daily.

I started the people machine. The digging is finished; just need to put in the elevator. The stalls will (eventually) be at -78, 378. It's in the desert, on the way to Klaz's place. There is currently a 3x3 cobble square with torches on it.

Do not jump in there. The drop is about 50 blocks.

I started working on a safer way down but I have to go to bed now. I'll finish tomorrow with the elevator, and then we can start setting up the stalls up top.

OH by the way... on the side of the square is a little hole. PLEASE DO NOT GO DOWN THERE OR PUT ANYTHING IN THERE. I logged off down there and I'll suffocate or something.

I have a design that is pretty compact for killing. I think you need, 2D, 9x14 or 9x18 with the spawner(s) in the middle.

No need for long drops anything, passive killing so no exp, but builds up pretty quickly when you're in the area.

Also, it can be set up for both passive and xp grinding, so when you feel like having xp, you can. And drops are safe, meaning no cactus or lava involved.

Something weird going on with the FTB server. Didn't it used to restart every so often? I haven't seen it do that since we reset.

The problem I'm having (and Oso now too) is our Tinkers Construct smelteries wont activate, despite being configured correctly. Can an admin get online and help? I've googled and cannot find the answer.

Ack so much posts. Rhinox, I have thoughts about this stuff (but I'm at work, so later) but really quickly:

- No to Vanilla only. I'd play sometimes but I love the mods. I dont care about updates as long as its fun. When I want Vanilla, I go on the XBox.

- Mafiacraft 2.0. And YES to stable world fot at least a year. This is what I was expecting with the current world.


- Resets are important, but agreed it should only happen after the majority of players on the server have gotten what they wanted out of it.


- For now, I think it's vital we research/discuss/test extensively a lighter set of mods. Sticking with 1.5 is great because by the time a year goes by, some of our favorite mods should be updated for 1.6 and possibely other new awesome things to think about. But later.

Lastly, I would be happy to help you, Rhi, as a back up admin, and certainly with testing, learning, etc.

I personally do not care too much for XBL or BOP but it really doesnt matter one way or the other for me.

Like I said earlier, if I want to play vanilla, I go play XBL. I know about vanilla. I like exploring mods. I don't care which ones. I just don't feel like doing that alone. I liked when we were on the DW20 pack, even though it was dying. This pack lasted a month or less than.

I told M on IRC. Just pick an FTB pack. I don't care which one. Pick one, put it up, and let it be. I'm tired of the discussion. I just wanna play with you guys and this is bullshit. Also vanilla is boring. So, if there isn't going to be a modded server, I dunno, I probably won't play tbh.

The problem is affording that server.

An Enderman package at CreeperHost (8GB RAM 55GB HDD 5 Core virtual server with unlimited data) will cost about £45 per month (I'm sure you can work that out in USD yourselves!) and I'd be prepared to pay half of that. Anybody else interested?

That's somewhere around $90-100 I think and I'd be able/happy to put in $30 a month.

Unleashed is on 1.5.2 right now with BoP. I'm sure TC4 will likely have bugs that need to be worked out. This is up to Rob, but I'm guessing he won't want to update until that's been done solidly.

Unleashed is pretty awesome by the way. I've been checking it out on SSP. It was developed from the old FTB Ultimate pack, and now with 100% less GregTech! XD
