I have a few that I made a dog house for and I decided to grab on to take in my giant cave system I discovered. As soon as we got down to one of the lower levels he ran STRAIGHT into the lava, caught fire, and died. I even had a wall around the lava that he decided to climb because apparently he wanted to swim, or something. So, just remember, if you are taking a dog spelunking have a bucket of water handy.
