So I finished up most of the outer structure of Castle Rhinox today. I still need to trade in the wooden doors for iron doors, but I don't have enough iron yet. I also have something neat planned for the 4 towers involving lava. Aside from that, now I need to wait for more inspiration to hit me with ideas for the inner structure.

Cool! Right now I'm not sure where the station's going to be, but I'll work on figuring it out.


Oh, and I need to thank MME for donating some cobble for my castle. I completely ran out and would still be mining for more had he not given me some, and my castle walls would still be incomplete. So thanks!

Road network status report:

I connected the following places to the surface road network (started at the spawn):
- claus' floating house
- hedge maze (take a boat at the docks)
- rhinox' castle
- the tundra station (road ends a hundred meters from the station or so, it's barely visible from my tree)

Right now I'm building a resting spot for the weary wanderer some 3 minutes from rhinox' castle.



And that castle is awesome.

so my friend and I decided to build a penis-shaped mansion on the lake between our houses earlier today

then I look at the map Claus posted just now and found out that I wandered around the map for three hours in my first time on the server only to find that the perfect place to settle was on the banks for a lake that is apparently shaped like a dick

MME that road is great. Can't wait til the bridges are finished. I especially like the part through the tundra where the road goes through a couple tunnles then over a bridge. The halfway house is nice, I took a nap there. Then I followed the road until it ended. Where's the road supposed to end? Are you taking it all the way to UT's place?

Oh claus you know that cave by my castle that you like so much? Well I found another one very similar way at the other end of MME's road. I think its bigger though. I didn't have torches with me so I couldn't figure out how far back it went.


Anyone know how to make a still water moat? I'm gonna put one around my castle (well 2 sides, the other 2 sides are already up against the sea) and I'm not sure how to put the water in without making currents...

Is the sanctuary there, but not visible? Or is the sanctuary not even there? I'm using a mod that "records" maps from multi-player servers, so if I didn't get close to the sanctuary, it could simply not show up.

Anyone know how to make a still water moat?

Source blocks that are surrounded on all four sides by solid blocks or source water blocks will not form currents. An empty block surrounded on two sides by source water blocks will become a source water blocks.

What this means is that you want to make a "infinite water supply" as a 2x2 water puddle, 1 deep, somewhere near the moat:

If you take a bucket of water from any of those blocks, it will be instantly refilled. Use this to fill your moat with source blocks in every square. Just make sure your moat is 1 deep when you fill it, and there will be no currents. After the moat is filled, you can dig deeper.

That is the gist of it, there are other ways to make a currentless moat, but I think this is the simplest.

I think I remember reading somewhere that lava isn't infinite / doesn't create new springs, but I'm not sure.

Claus, if I make the moat that way and then go deeper, won't I end up with down currents? maybe thats not a problem...

No, lava doesn't work that way.

And yes, that road is supposed to go to UT. Nearly there, about 500 meters or something.

And no, you won't create down currents. Make sure your moat is completely still before you dig away the bottom layers though.
