Logged on to the server for the first time tonight. The 0,0 house is not very secure...
Explored a bit. Got attacked by a creeper on the way to the maze, but I managed to make it explode on the side of the road, so no damage was done to the road. There's a nice crater where a tree used to be though.
Man, I'm scarred to venture out and find my own place... On that note, anyone know the location of a grassland biome? I'd like to build there I think.

Maybe I can catch someone online next time.
I think you're referring to JMJ's house. Its always getting creepered
You probably found that creeper by claus's house. I see creepers there every time I walk past...
When I first started, I stayed near other's houses until I had a bed and the basic tools and some basic building material, and some torches. Go out with any less than that and you're liable to end up spending nights in 1x2x2 holes in pitch blackness waiting for sunrise. I died by a skellie first time I tried that because I had to keep removing a block in pitch blackness to check if it was light yet, and one time the skellie started shooting in a hole and then a creeper blew up the wall so my survival bunker was gone...

Pro-tip: with these holes, get some sand/dirt and place it two blocks high around your dig point, then dig two blocks in (makes sure that it is not possible for the non-wide mobs to jump up by putting it two blocks higher than the surrounding area, and spiders aren't really a problem when you're in a 1 block wide hole). You can then watch for sunrise.
Crap. I got creepered in the guest lighthouse after sleeping. I did some crude repairs, but someone who knows what their doing should fix it properly. All I did was repair the hole it made.
Hey guys, I have a small half-relevant request of you. In one of my classes, we're making educational posters, and I decided to make a basic poster overviewing common building materials for houses in Minecraft. Here it is:
Any constructive criticism would be lovely.
There will be no kisses tonight
There will be no holding hands tonight
'Cause what is now wasn't there before and should not be
Well, Stone brick does not require more stone than regular smooth stone (4 smooth stone produce 4 stone bricks). And Clay is not rare anymore past 1.8. But these things won't be noticed by people who don't play minecraft, so other than that the poster is pretty awesome.
Maybe you could have some simple buildings in your background?
