Reaper shouldn't have a title if that's the road we're going down.

The only reason that people seem to want to give him a title is to punish him for his bad works. That in itself should be disqualifying. It's fine to take the piss out of someone for something dumb they have done, but this feels less that and more like it's attempting to be corrective and punitive in nature.

As proof of that, when RC actually seems to want it, people turn around and don't want him to have it anymore. Understandable, but that's not really what titles should be for.

I'm sorry. I missed it if this was a bad humor attempt to punish me and prevent me from doing similarly stupid things in the future. I was under the impression it was more or less a "hahaha look at the dumb thing he did" kind of thing.

Nominate Vi for the title of
The Librarian
For his/her encyclopedic knowledge of games, upkeep of the wiki, and lovably fussy attitude.

I like it better than Professor Paragon (his current title) because I think it better captures the "Vi-ness" of Vi. Professor Paragon has always seemed a little weak to me, being almost a lazy attempt to make his scummies into a title. Plus, while Professor somewhat fits Vi given his hard work on various parts of the game, Paragon doesn't really fit him so well.

Anyway, I think The Librarian is a better title for him. Funnier and more accurate.

I like Encyclopedia Mafiatica too, even if it doesn't get to Vi's fussiness ;-)

Androgynous Encyclopedia?

Why? I don't believe he's ever claimed to be male or female. I don't think one is more obvious than the other.

I don't know why fitting mafia in there is such a priority. It kind of just makes it look silly now that I look back on it. I like the simplicity and brevity of The Librarian.

I don't find Vi bitchy. A white lady? maybe.

Nope. That kind of sounds like Vi. Don't get me wrong. I love Vi. But diplomatic and sweet he ain't.

Besides, I don't think of librarians as bitchy exactly. I think of them as
severe
.

I kind of like ArchiVist, but makes him sound a little bit like a guy who sticks things in manila envelopes and puts them into metal file cabinets.

Oversoul wrote:ArchVist makes me think of someone who is always in the back room doing things. Vi definitely does that with his Behind the Scenes work on the Wiki, but his work with the Wiki is more minor when compared to his overall work.

If Encyclopedia Mafiatica or variations of that is disliked, same with The Librarian, perhaps The Architect? I feel like it fits with his work on the wiki, game theory, and his actual modding. Plus, it sounds kool. :P

I feel like you're the only one who didn't like Librarian, or am I wrong?

Oman wrote:Vi hit the biggest point for me already:

Vi wrote:"Professor Paragon" has a nice alliterative ring to it. As long as the title sounds as good or better than that, I can settle for anything.

Flow, and feeling. Mafiatica or Encyclopedia Mafioso or the like sound a lot clunkier, and don't read nearly as nicely as anything else. Professor Paragon has the history and the flow to keep it at the top of my list.

Note that this is pretty much the only thing Vi and I have agreed on in forever :D

I agree that anything Maf-whatever seems clunky and like it's trying too hard. I don't see any reason to try and force the word "Mafia" or something similar into the title -- this is a mafia site, we don't really need to reinforce that. I understand that there's some alliteration in Professor Paragon, but the title still seems like a pretty lame one to me. It's neither clever nor particularly captures Vi's personality or work. The alliteration is sort of weak as well. PRO and PAIR are somewhat different sounds to start the word.

Titles aren't functional. They shouldn't be judged by the same standard of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" that could be applied to other areas.

That's fine (though I maintain The Librarian is a far superior title), but that doesn't mean we should shut down debate on the topic as suggested by Xalxe

It depends on the job. Government jobs that require a security clearance? They may very well do so. Your average employer? Very unlikely to actually ask you to list internet accounts. That's not to say they won't google the crap out of your name though.

As for the Kinetic thing, I think you've got to let it go. Cockblocker was probably the best attempt at walking the line between funny and mean, but I think it's perfectly reasonable for Kinetic not to want "cock" on his title. The other suggestions just weren't funny. Prude Litigator? Come on. There's nothing snappy or funny about that. That's just saying he's prude and then adding something about him to the end.

if you really wanted to mess with people, just make the title "OfIllusion" and see misidentification triple!

SpellCheck is closest anyway. Don't Flip the U misses on comedic timing grounds. Not Magna a bit too direct.

OfDelusion? It's Magua, but he thinks he's the best scum hunter in the game
OfAllusion? For the erudite Magua.
OfConclusion? For the Magua who focuses his effort on his closing statements.
OfSeclusion? I've never
heard
of Magua talking about friends and family.

But yeah. OfIllusion would be funny on its own.

And.... I don't know of any more.

good god, no. don't pass the obviously superior one:

OfIllnsion. It highlights exactly what's funny. it doesn't need to turn everything around.
