Yes.

It comes from those mobs not being killed in a long time since they spawned.
The more a mob sits there unattended for long periods of time the more bonus EXP you get for it.

As those items are not the best in the game and you can get weapons of the same calibur through many different methods other than spending karma.
The weapons you buy with karma are also bind on pick up.

That's not true. "Farming Karma" is hard enough as it is. You have to spend hours upon hours, even with a boost. I've gotten free boosts through mystic chests and the increase was negligible for the short amount of time it lasted. But believe what you will. The game wasn't made for people who don't even try to do simple wiki searches or have the patience to watch a 13 minute video. :shrug:

It's paying for a boost that lets you buy gear that you can get the same of in different ways.
At a point it is simply just buying it for the cosmetic effect.

You have to GRIND for the karma regardless of the boost or not.

The most time intensive and expensive weapons in the game don't have better stats than any other end game weapons. There are countless options when it comes to your final gear.

Karma is most certainly not the easiest way.

Ah, I wasn't thinking about it properly.
By the time you are level 80, you will have probably a large amount of karma regardless of how many boosts you used because of all the quests you've done around the world and pretty much everything you do.
So yeah, what I said is wrong. You don't need to grind anything really at all, just play through the game.

So how does one gain levels? I'm level 17, and I've already done all the areas and quests up to that point, and the next area is level 20, and the mobs there wreck me. So either I'm missing some aspect of leveling up, or I need help, or something.

Go into Kessex Hills. Hover over the "heart" quests and try to do the quests that are 3 or less levels than you. Repeat events that happen in areas around your level if you have to.
Make sure you map completed queensdale and divinity's reach if you want that extra EXP. Plus you get some gold and a cool item.

when you zoom out of your map it shows the level range of all of the areas (explored/non-explored)
There should be a 25-35 area around somewhere.

Well, that 25-35 area is connected to everyone.
There is also a 30-40 area that seems cool.
I gain a bunch of exp just crafting stuff and doing my personal storyline.

Also it's good to visit the lower level other starting areas, for all the skill points.
I just hit 30 and don't have enough Skill points for my elite.
Definitely gonna run around noob areas now :b

And yeah plains of ashford is my least favorite but I still like it.

Order of Whispers, The Vigil, or Priory.
You will be able to get special armor dedicated to whichever group you join.

Mobility powers. Like some classes have abilities that let them long jump. Super useful for jump-puzzles.

guardian greatsword has a long jump.
Uh, elementalist daggers lightning has a long jump as well.
