Dota 2 Thread: REBORN SOURCE 2 HYPETRAIN NOBRAKES

This forum is specifically for discussing non-Mafia games
(board, card, video, we're not picky)
.
Playing
such games should happen in the Mish Mash forum, of course.

Contact Sheet

To seperate LoL/Dota thread. If you oppose doing so, deal with it.

Post your steam name if you play and I'll keep a list in this post.
(MS - Steam)
BBmolla - BBmolla
Hinduragi - Hinduragi
Neruz - PheonixIV and\or Invertible Hippopotamus
Darox - Darox
Panzerjager - audiotsunami
Knights of Cydonia - mentlegen_oh

So Clinkz being played in competitive games and winning. Hell certainly has frozen over hasn't it.

Also this site rocks.

Clinkz has ALWAYS been a pub stomp hero, I don't think I've ever seen him picked competitively except this month.

In post 6, Hinduragi wrote:Just going to throw out there that I suck because I don't know what anyone does and one second I'm farming, the next I'm getting 3-second stunned and then nuked accordingly because I got in range of the wrong hero and didn't know it.

Steam: Hinduragi

I suggest you play some bot games to learn all the different heroes and what they do, you don't even have to complete the games just figure out what different heroes do and move on.

If you have any questions, ask. Also if you think you're ready to play but have no one to play with, shoot me a message.

5 second guide, will post more later.

SUPPORT:
-Start of game buy one of wards/courier. If your team are all ass hats and don't buy one of them, you buy both. Buy some combination of Tangos/Health Pot/Mana Pot/Branches.
-Ward should go up near a rune, there are a few great warding spots that I can point out if needed. The point of this ward is to stop mid ganks to your lane and show your mid hero where the rune is.
-While in lane babysitting your carry, harrass the crap out of the enemy who attempts to melee the creeps. If the enemy support tries to harrass your carry, hit the bitch with an attack.
-Save spells for when the enemy is low(half healthish) and then let your carry know you want to kill the enemy. Then do so.
-KEEP BUYING WARDS! A support with a force staff will not matter if your team has fed due to lack of wards. Wards can save your team from an insane amount of kills, and any time you see "stock: 2" on the item, you should be buying a pair asap.
-If your carry appears to be able to hold his own or the enemy team has left the lane, feel free to leave the lane to go gank other lanes. Just make sure you have wards up for your carry.

That's not really an accurate representation though unless you play in terrible terrible pubs.

Which is kind of a dumb thing to do in the first place

Mine was 1867ish, Platinum league, 98% better than everyone else. Don't remember exact number. Thought it was fairly high when I discussed it with others who I knew, especially when looking at the percentage.

I need to go shopping today for a bit, but I'm down to play with you when I get home. The game is just complex, you just need to play it till you know most things.

Right now is a good time to get into it, the International 3 is coming up (The big Valve sponsored yearly tournament.)

The best way to play is with friends, so definitely do if you can. I have an invite or two if you have someone else who wants to play but doesn't have an invite.

I play a ton of Dota, and I'm still not all that great at most of them. (Visage comes to mind.)

I do suggest it be something you work on over time, but for now you're fine just playing non-micro heroes.

Control groups are a huge part of microing.

Edit: Some heroes like Brewmaster are super easy to micro though, it'll switch heroes with tab and once you know what each of your panda elementals do, it's easy peasy.

Lion is okay. Depends who you're up against.

Don't really need to micro trees that much, just select them and attack ground, easy peasy

All you need is good team mates and one who knows how to carry.

Also apparently the dude who plays Ender in Ender's game posts frequently on the Dota 2 reddit and plays Dota 2 a lot. Fun fact.

Western Qualifies start tomorrow.

Kaipi isn't in it so I really don't care who wins. Just hope it's not EG. Rooting for Mouz even though they won't win.

Fairly certain levels atm only give you an uncommon or better item every time you level up. Other than that, they're silly.

F2P coming soon by the way, get pumped.

Here's my Dotabuff, I'm like the definition of average.

I wanna do TMM if we can get enough players on to do it at some point. Nothing beats playing with premade team of five.

During school year I'm generally any time from 3:00 P.M. to 12:00 A.M. PST

Atm I'm busy as hell and just squeeze in a game or two here and there.

I think Alliance is top, but if so not by much. The Western teams have certainly began to at the very least match the asian teams since TI2.

Edit: I want Mouz to win, but I know they won't. I'll still be cheering for Synderyn!

*crickets*

International in a week. Have a show every day that week but it's fine I just won't sleep.

I have all day free Monday if anyone is interested in learning Dota 2 before the international to get a basic grasp of what's happening or what have you.

The Story So Far

International 2011

The International 2011 was the world's first introduction to Dota 2, and what better way to introduce it then run a $1,000,000 tournament? The important thing to know here is that the winner was the Ukrainian team Natus Vincere (AKA, Na'Vi), defeating E-Home in the championship. After this match most teams disbanded and traded around, and Na'Vi became the popular crowd favorite, not only because of good results, but because of their risky and unique playstyle, opting to pick Pudge in one game when nobody else would. Artstyle was their captain, but the true star was Dendi, whose fantastic mid play was entertaining to watch due to his ability and often playing unconventional heroes.
Spoiler: 2011 Winners!
Image

Many small tourneys took place before finally the 2012 International came around. Everyone talked about how powerful the Asian teams were, and how the West would get dominated at TI2. And that's exactly what happened. The two top Eastern teams, LGD and IG, went 14-0 and 13-1 respectively in the group stages. During the tournament, the West was quickly shown how powerful Naga Siren, a recently released hero in Dota 2, could be. Na'Vi did poorly early on, ending first round of group stages with a negative record, but eventually ending up 8-6 and in the winner's bracket. Na'Vi managed to win in the winner's bracket, even against the seemingly unstoppable Eastern teams. Notably, during IG who were agreed to be the team to beat, Na'Vi let IG pick the seemingly unstoppable Naga Siren and claimed to have a counter. That's when the the most memorable team fight in dota 2 history occurred. After defeating IG, IG went to the losers bracket, beat LGD, and was sent back to face Na'Vi in the finals. After losing 2 games and only winning one, Na'Vi needed to do something drastic. After 2011, Artstyle left Na'Vi and Puppey took over as captain. Puppey was known for being an exceptional drafter and captain, and had shown so during TI2. Game 4 Na'Vi makes a pick that shocks everyone: Nyx Assasin. At the time of the event, Nyx was a joke hero, never picked due to being seemingly underpowered. The theory all made sense behind the pick, they just had to play their cards correctly and it'd pay off. Unfortunately, the gamble didn't pay off and Na'Vi lost; IG were the winners of TI2.

Spoiler: 2012 Winners

Please tell me it was the one where I was Warlock

I'd give match ID but apparently Dota 2 is broken :(

Edit: If you were watching my Clinkz or Sniper matches, do not replicate anything from those, they were lazy games.
Edit2: If you wanna see a game where I play good, click here.
Captains mode match after a day of losing all pick. Me and my buddy Cobes drafted and everything went well. You can really see what a Warlock allowed to get last hits can really do (AKA, why you should never make Warlock get wards and such.)

Mind mentioning some League heroes you really like? Could find some equivalent ones.

Feel free to add me, BBmolla on steam, and I'll play with you whenever I can.

I know Reck enjoyed Nature's Prophet, but I know my girlfriend who is new to the game has taken a liking to Windrunner.

I think any of the heroes in the "Limited Heroes" game mode are good to start with. That means: Bounty Hunter, Death Prophet, Dragon Knight, Drow Ranger, Juggernaut, Lich, Lion, Omniknight, Razor, Sand King, Skeleton King, Sniper, Sven, Tidehunter, Vengeful Spirit, Viper, Warlock, Windrunner, Witch Doctor

Group stage top 4 predictions?

http://www.dota2.com/international/prelims/results/

Group A: LGD, Na'Vi, DK, mouz
Group B: IG, Alliance, Tongfu, Liquid

Going with that for now. Liquid is a toss up, they'll either do great or do awful. 4th place in Group A is pretty much a toss up too.

Kind of an add on to Panzer, I would describe Dota as more complex than League, which just means you have a lot more to learn in that initial phase and makes it harder to master.

Using your examples, League has brush, while Dota has trees. Trees that can be interacted with through items and abilities and that people can juke through to escape dying. With trees you have to learn all the paths and stuff, while in league it's very obvious how brush works.

CC being longer and stronger is more of League compensating for casters being able to scale. In Dota, your caster type heroes don't do as much damage, and most are useful exclusively for their disables.

Animations being clunkier is because there is more there, with turn rate and such. Just a bit wierd to be described as "clunky" to me I guess.

Zero out of game influence. All out of game content that can be bought is cosmetic.

Going back to complexity thing, Dota doesn't have summoner spells, instead having active item abilities, which obviously it takes you a while to learn them all.

The laning phase is also more complex, with the addition of denying as well as the addition of stacking and pulling, which is where you pull lane creeps into the jungle.

So yeah, Dota is more complex, and sucks ass to get into, but once you learn it it's great in upper level play. You'll need friends to have any fun. League plays much better to the pick it up and play, which is mainly why it's so successful, but I personally find it falls flat in more competitive aspects.

My two cents.

Haha that game was amazing :)

Lord of Avernus is just annoying, pick Ancient Apparation against him cause AA's ult completely wrecks LoA. Nullifies his ultimate completely.

That's awesome. Spirit Breaker is definitely pickable in competitive play atm, he's seriously under rated.

I think the one game they one was tri core. Or dual core. One of those. But yeah, single core is a bit silly.

Games today were great.

LGD.Int underperformed all the hell. LGD and IG not powerhouses anymore. Still good, just not powerhouses.

Phase are usually better than treads on mirana, but it's debatable
And you should indeed carry tps as soon as you can afford them if there's a space cow on the enemy team.
so i don't need an early defensive item at all?
i tried phase out a few times, but i forget item actives from time to time and pt swapping saved my ass once or twice
and space cow usually charges me not my teammates :(
How you can't manage to phase but can tread swap is pretty backwards lol

SB is pretty legit right now. Was played a bit as support in competitive play. Not in TI3 probably because teams want to go with something safer.

PotM doesn't really need Aquilla, drums will give her more overall survivability while also helping damage and making her mana pool larger.
How would you build Mirana as a straight carry?

Second one can't do.

A minor Disruptor buff couldn't hurt, depends in what area. He's just situational atm.

VS buff could be nice, depending on what it is.

Easy peasy

Head to your pull camp

Wait around

Attack a creep in the camp at X:53

Run away

Come back

Should be stacked (What happens is creep camps spawn every X:00. The camp has a box and if it detects no units in that box it makes new ones.)

Attack the camp at XX:15

Walk toward your creep way

Should do it

Just practice it a couple times. I know the radiant camp is a bit wierd, might need to attack the camp at XX:16 because it's wonky.

I'm actually on a massive 100 game slump right now, though. DotA's getting stale, I need Valve to not be useless jackoffs like they were to TF2.

You can see what tier you're in if you go to "View Recent Games" or whatever, type in your name, and then choose a bracket. It'll show games you've played in that bracket.

Not your fault. You literally couldnt kill him with Skywrath Mage. Basically only physical damage can actually kill Huskar, because his magic resist basically gets to 100% as his health gets super low.

Maybe to try to stop Trilanes?

I mean, assumedly I'd say ideal balance would be where you can do any strategy (Push Strat, 4p1) or any lane style (2-1-2, 3-1-1, 1-2-2) and still have it be effective. I'd guess that's what he's trying to do, but I think he's completely obliterated trilanes in this patch.

Idk. Only Icefrog knows what he's trying to accomplish.

What was 6.74 meta?

How are Trilanes even gonna function anymore?? The pull camp is fucked due to exp change and medium/small camp switch. Off laners got buffed, but trilanes themselves are now weaker.

when you have low evasion, a bonus to your evasion helps a lot; when you have high evasion, the same bonus to your evasion will only slightly increase your actual evasion. Does that makes sense? So the numbers don't stack as you'd think. (25% evasion + 15% evasion =/= 40% evasion) I don't know how exactly the math of it works though.

Dagger being dodgeable means if you're targeting with dagger and you blink, it'll get disjointed instead of following you to your new position.

"Evasion does not stack. This includes both Hero Abilities and Item bonuses. Only the bonus with the highest probability will work. An exception to that rule is Faceless Void's Backtrack ability, as it is not considered Evasion. Evasion and Backtrack work independently and are subject to Chance Stacking.
Other miss chances stack diminishingly with evasion. This includes Blind and the base 25% chance for ranged heroes to miss while attacking uphill."

The unfortunate thing is at the level of play you guys are at, you HAVE to play a carry because your team is unreliable. Not trying to be like "Oh I'm in Very High so I'm awesome," whenever I play with people in lower ranks(AKA, a lot), I can't count on my team mates to carry.

Back in the days of Heroes of Newerth, which was basically Dota 1.5 at the time, I had a >50% win rate. The only way I got it up was by finding a group of players who consistently played at the same time as me that I could play with. I played support for my whole HoN career, and only started playing carries due to lack of others being able to in games I've been playing.

Joining a team for matches or just pub play is really important. You can't go at this game alone, you'll have a bad time. I know we've got our little MS community here, but I don't think we're all always on at the same time.

If we really wanted to try to congregate the MS community a bit more, we could all start trying to frequent the mumble. As silly as it sounds, not talking to players disconnects you from them. Once I talk to someone on mumble, I want to play with them more simply because I have a better sense of who they are.

tldr; find a team/group of players to frequently play with.

No reliable stun. No pushing/counter pushing ability. Pretty much it. Unpopular trendwise atm.

And you ALWAYS should max W. It's garbage without it's range. "Q deals a ton of damage!" Okay, good luck having the mana to spam that on a support disruptor. As a mid disruptor, you might be able to argue that.

Edit: Also COMPLETELY countered by BKB. I think he just got an aghs upgrade to disable items within the field though right? If so he's probably viable now.

If you're a support Disruptor in a captains game you should go Aghs. You won't reach Bloodstone till 30 and it'll be pointless by then. Plus yuou'll probably have a carry who is getting it.

pls do not use these winrates as a decision factor in what items you buy, its a very good way to get the wrong impression. the important thing to realize is that a disruptor who has the money to buy a bloodstone most likely has the money to do that because his team is already winning and it doesnt matter what he buys at that point.
The items are recorded by what are in the players inventory at the end of the game. Hence why wards has 30% win and courier has 20%.

I just joined the reddit inhouse league, sign ups were a little bit ago :/

There are tons of leagues randomly all over that have a draft system so you can join solo.

Yeah, low stakes for fun sort of deal. Same hero. Could get crazy and do 1v1 Meepo, 1v1 Pudge etc.

And it could be whenever the two players have time instead of all in one day.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

Is something like that what you were thinking? (it's just a visual display to see if I have the right idea, don't think too much of it :P)
Yeah, but a loser's bracket too.

It's just a way to get us playing with each other that still allows me to play on my busy schedule.

By the time the tourney is over, my current show will probably be over and I'll have more time for a 3v3 tourney.
