Yeah the PC version is a little more than 5 major updates ahaead of the XBox one. Plus, you get to join a server with us!

Thanks! It's pretty much done now, other than Om's snow room (which needs to wait for 1.3 for ice). I'm now building a railway from it to the mushroom biome (and then possibly on to spawntown - but I'll need to do LOTS mining to get the rails first).

I'll donate any gold/iron I have to communal railway systems. My only request is that we do two sets of tracks to any destination, and I get to design the stop points, I have a design i spent a few hours perfecting for a few friends over on my server that makes "stations" possible without breaking a continuous circuit line, and still being able to start back on your way again with the click of a button (en ingenious combination of underpowered powered rails and hills :P) while also being multi-directional, meaning you can arrive at the station from either side, be stopped, allow you a chance to chose to get off, or push a button to continue on without getting out/moving your minecart.


Instead of two sets of tracks to any destination btw, we could also just create an entire "circuit" of all the stops in a circle.

@UT: were you thinking of nether or overworld rails - I'm talking about overworld. The jungle is further out than the mushroom biome, so I meant connected the mushroom land to town.

@Maru: I'm afraid the big railway I've just nearly finished is one track and won't easily go to two while looking ok (it's a one-wide bridge). I'd love to see your station design - there's a couple of places I'd like to add stops on the way if it's easy to stop/start.

maru: I'll make a main station in town and leave a chest for communal donations. I'd love to see your design, at the moment I was just going to make everyone come to a full stop at every station.

The you need it to be full-powered when it hits the incline on either side of the station for the station to have a full guarantee of working, so I suggest a powered rail 1-2 spaces from the station on either side.

Explanation of parts:

the center powered rail is self-explanatory, just for powered rails. The inclined powered rails are where you stop when entering the station from either direction, following the Minecraft Physics rules of powering a rail that was previously unpowered while on an incline will give you a boost in the direction of said incline, sending you continuing on your journey.

The flat powered rails 1-higher than ground level are to bring you to the stop on the incline. at full-power, it takes roughly 1 and a third powered rails to come to a complete stop, therefore stropping you near the top of the inclined rail, so if you click the button immediately after stopping, you'll continue in the same direction you went previously.


If starting, you place your cart on the INCLINED rail on the OPPOSITE side of the button from the direction you wish to travel, hop in, and press the button.

(I completely made this design, without using wiki/youtube/google, on my own, after hours of fucking up trying to mace a circuitous rail-line that works with you coming in from either direction. :D)

I'm glad there's enthusiasm for ambitious overworld railways :). We should make a map of planned/in progress/built railways. I'm having trouble downloading the world map (either from daily or dynamic) - can anyone help?

The "daily" worldmap is not being updated anymore. The new host is messing with my automated backups, and I'm having to copy the backups over manually. If you want, I can give you a link to the most recent backup so you can make an image of the world map yourself :-)

I've been planning an overworld rail from skytown to spawntown, but I was planning on unpowered rail and travelling via a powered minecart train style with storage minecarts n everything. The original idea was to make it easier for me to transfer my stuff back and forth, but thats kinda obsolete now since /home - /back and then enderchests already make that pretty easy. (actually /home - /back I kinda feel like its cheating to transfer stuff back and forth buttttttt I couldn't help but abuse it)

Still I kinda like the idea of a powered minecart train railway even if its not as fast/easy way of getting around, just seems more fun.

Well, like I said in the post where I took the pictures of the Testificate Village:

Sometimes, when walking from point A to point B, you pass through places and see things that you didn't see before. So the points of a overworld powered rail, even when we have /home and /back, can be:

- Making an asthetically pleasing building
- Challenging yourself to gather the materials and make the gargantuan project
- make a route that can be used to see some nice views

In an previous single player world, I had a nice "finger" like mountain with a tower built on top of it, and with some rail spinning around the mountain to the tower. It would be much simpler and easier to make a simple back and forth rail inside the mountain, but the rail outside gave me great views of the mountain ranges nearby. (it was also fun to try and snipe mobs far away from the moving minecart).

I'm getting an issue where I get crazy lag, then the server vanishes altogether, and then it's fine again a few minutes later. Anyone else seen this?

We've been having some issues since Corin made the hosting website where you can buy pacakges. He says its writing empty logs to a flatfile database which is eating up memory and ram like no tomorrow, but I thought he said he fixed it. I'll ask.

@UT: very glad to hear you're connecting spawntown to the mushroom biome by railway :). I thought the route might look nice if instead of being straight it goes north to somewhere around z=0 first - that way it goes along some nice coast rather than straight across the ocean. What do you think?

The mushroom - jungle railway is complete apart from stations at either end; it goes from very near the mushroom house to just outside the jungle near the temple.
