Well, take a look at this:

produces:

b

bi

i[/i] end

So each [/___] tag closes the most recently opened tag, even if that's not the one it looks like it ought to close.

Although that 'works' for some tags, it can cause unpredictable and undesired behivor with others. I suggest closing tags properly.

You still should. HTML (which is ultimately what the BBCode tag is rendering) is forgiving in some situations, and on some browsers, but there's never any guarantee that will continue, and your posts may break for someone else or in the future.

Plus, it's kind to our OCD scummers.

I'm pretty sure that's because in that case it's replacing [/__] with </span>, so it doesn't care IN THAT CASE what order they're in. It's the same reason some of the block-level tags will end abruply when you nest them; </div> happens.

That's because the spoiler tag works by setting background and foreground to the same color, so you obviously can't have a "color inside a spoiler".

It depends how you order the tags.

If the spoiler tags are outside of the color tags, you can have colored text on a black background, e.g.

foo

[spoiler][color=#FF0000]foo[/color][/spoiler]

If the color tags are outside the spoiler tags, you get black on black cause the spoiler overrides it, e.g.

bar

[color=#FF0000][spoiler]bar[/spoiler][/color]
