I want to play! What do I do?

In Mish Mash, most games take signups in their own threads. Signing up is often a matter of posting “/in” or something similar, but read the moderator’s first post - sometimes additional information is required. Occasionally, PMing the moderator or filling out an application is required.

I want to mod! What do I do?

There are no prerequisites for modding a Mish Mash game - you are free to start any game you want. However, it is

strongly

recommended that you make a post here with some basic information about your game, and a link to the thread. This both makes it easier for players to find your game, and means it will be added to the list much faster. Be aware that

abandoning games, unnecessarily changing rules, or acting unfairly/capriciously towards players may result in you being required to seek a ruleset review or find an experienced co-mod

before starting future games.

As of February 4, 2014, all large-scale games must have either an experienced co-moderator or a review from an experienced moderator. Large-scale games are subjective and subject to my judgement, but generally games in the style of Big Brother, Survivor, another reality show or a game which requires significant player commitment will receive this designation. For further questions, contact me.

What happened to the Upcoming Games thread? Where do I announce my games?

You can discuss ideas and announce games in this thread. If you’re announcing a game, include the name, whether you’ll be accepting pre-/ins (and how many), and a brief description.

I’m a player and I have a problem with another player in a game

If a player has posted something against the forum rules, use the report button in the top-right of their post. This is the fastest way to get it dealt with. In any other situation, try to resolve the issue through the game’s moderator first, and PM me if you are still not satisfied.

I’m a mod and I have a problem with a player/players in my game

If you feel you can’t resolve the issue yourself, or you don’t know how to, feel free to PM me about it, and I will do whatever I can to help.

I’m a player and I have a problem with the mod of a game

Please PM me and explain the issue. If necessary, I can keep your identity hidden.

The mod’s flaked! What do we do?

If there is a backup mod listed in the OP, please PM both them and myself and I will give them the required powers to take over the game, temporarily or permanently. If not, PM me anyway - though unlikely, it is not impossible for a replacement to be found.

I want my game to have more than one thread, is that allowed?

Each game is permitted to have one thread in the main Mish Mash forum. Additional threads may be created in the Frogstar World B subforum and linked to via the main thread. It is recommended that additional threads be tagged in brackets.

Moderators of Mish Mash games may request the ability to create Private Topics for their games. PM me with your request, which should include what the topics will be used for and why you would like to use them over other methods.

I would also add that this guide is by no means perfect. I can think of at least one game that blatantly violated half of this guide (hint: They did like zero planning) that is incredibly successful, so it just goes to show you that I'm human, and I can be wrong. These are my personal views, not site policy. You can certainly ignore this guide and go back to making shit up as you go.

Okay, no. There need to be stricter rules on large games in general. I doubt they'll be implemented, but it would be really nice to see experience/planning reqs. Right now, if I want to run the game I'm sitting on, it'll take until this time NEXT YEAR to do so. Quite simply, fuck that.

Welp touched a few nerves due to phoneposting. First of all: Snake, I have nothing personally against you, you're a perfectly competent player and this has nothing to do with you at all. Ani, fuck you (this is a joke, people).

The main difference here is that I come from the mafia queue school of thought, which means experience + planning = game. It's my personal opinion that in order to get in a "queue" (but Xalxe it isn't a queue--yes it is shut up) you should be able to show that you could run the game tomorrow if asked to. However, the way things are right now is that Snakes can say "hey I wanna run a game" and it pushes my three pages of detailed planning back three months (again nothing against Snakes just saying). I also think that you should have modded SOMETHING else in the forum that roughly prepares you for running a large game because it's an effort (but Xalxe you just kind of jumped right in--yes different times different rules).

But hey what do I know, feel free to shout me down etc etc

In Serious Business

I'm starting my housekeeping as your new overlord. All threads with a last post older than June 7th have been archived. I'm currently planning to run an archive binge probably once a month unless things get messy.

As I update the Mish Mash List, I have a couple of questions for the community at large:

1. Does anybody use the "In Signups" section, or can I remove that? With me planning on a weekly update of the OP, that will get out of date fast.
   
2. Upcoming Games will probably list things unless it's been more than, say, a month since anybody said anything about it. Survivor games/other larges I'll play by ear on, but if you announce that you want to run a game of Risk and it's been a month I'll pull you from the upcoming. I suppose this is less of a question and more of an announcement but whatever.
   
3. Does anybody object to renaming the Auxillary forum? If so, would the community prefer "Frogstar World B" or "Total Perspective Vortex?" If it's about split/people don't care I'm abusing my power to pick the Frogstar.
   
4. Is there anything the community would like me to do that wasn't done before and that doesn't implement any sort of rigid system of things? I won't make promises but if you want me to add anything to my list of jobs, now's the time to speak up.

The List has gone through its monthly pruning, which it needed because I kinda slacked off during September; sorry about that. If I've erronously removed your game or if anything is broken, let me know.

Other things of note:

• Effective as soon as I send Flay a PM, the Archive will be renamed "Sens-O-Tape Archives." Please direct all complaints to my inbox where they will be promptly
