So does everyone remember the ill-fated Mish Mash Olympics, which were commenced at the start of the year and promptly wiped out by the Crash?
Well... I still intend to follow through with my part of it. This means I shall be hosting two tournaments: One starting September 1, and one starting December 1.
September's game, for those that do not remember (aka all of you), is...
There shall be two games for everyone. The first game shall split the players up into tables randomly, and the second game shall be based on position in the last game. It'll be easier to explain when it actually starts, but what this means is that any square number will do. I intend to open signups properly in a week, but until then pre-/in slots are available.
(Oh, and because this isn't a perpetually ongoing thing like Hot Seat would have been, I'm pretty sure I won't end up flaking it)Fickle, cold and harsh or caring and warm

Over the course of this month, I've been running Liar's Dice as part of the Mish Mash Olympics, as I've been scheduled to do so even though the Olympics were wiped out in the Crash.
Then... there's not really much point in holding the Mish Mash Olympics if there isn't actually going to a tournament for it, is there?
As such, I've decided to take over and run October and November as well. The original hosts of those events haven't been seen in months, so starting October 1, we have the...
Originally run by diginova twice in 2011, the Decathlon is the ultimate test of strength, skill, determination, and luck. As the name suggests, it is a series of ten events involving various methods of rolling dice. Honours are awarded as bonus points to the top scorers in each event, and the top scorers overall win CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS towards the overall Olympics championship. (This will also happen in Liar's Dice)
Similarly to Liar's Dice, there'll be a week of pre-/ins, then a week of actual signups before it starts on the first of October. Signups are unlimited. In addition, anyone that is also in Liar's Dice will be entitled to claim a country for their own for the Olympics overall (on a first-come-first-serve basis). In future, everyone will be entitled to claim a country when they sign up for their second event (out of the four planned). Sound great? Feel free to /in then! Doesn't sound great? /in anyway so that I can prove you wrong!Fickle, cold and harsh or caring and warm

He's the guy that created the Decathlon format as we play it.
Also, a clarification: I don't care about the signups that were taken for the Olympics way back in January. If you want to play, you /in. If you play in more than one event, you get a country to your name as well.
Coming in the top X scores you points, most points overall wins the Games of the First Mish Mash Olympiad.Fickle, cold and harsh or caring and warm

Adding to what ani said: My AIM is just "telnaior". I also got a multiplayer Jeopardy! working that will probably take slightly less long. But tl;dr, just drop me a hi over AIM on the weekend, and we'll see what we end up doing.
FYI, for me (AEDST/UTC+11), I usually run it on Saturday and Sunday, 11AM-6PM or so. Converted to UTC, that's Saturday and Sunday from midnight to 7AM. America subtracts 4/5/6/however many hours from that.
(Oh, and I don't use VASSAL for everything, but it's something I got working recently and it is pretty powerful, as all our Arkham Horror mods would know)Fickle, cold and harsh or caring and warm

And the Mish Mash Olympics Coin Game is now in signups over here.
Unlimited signups, but you only have until November 1. (Well, really November 3 since they'll probably stay open until the end of the first round)Fickle, cold and harsh or caring and warm

The massive number of RPG threads annoy me somewhat, but they haven't been too difficult to skip (it just takes a little more time to open up all the threads I want to look at).
Still agree that there shouldn't be 10+ threads for a single game though.Fickle, cold and harsh or caring and warm

Are you suggesting we give individual games their own forums? That's... radical. The issue, of course, is that only admins can create subforums, and I am most definitely not an admin. Also, game mods would presumably need proper mod powers within their subforum, which would necessitate extra usergroups. So nice idea, but I don't think it's workable. In post 850, Chevre wrote:What I've been thinking since this started: Why don't we just designate subforums for each, a la Chess Games?
Sure, one would say that it's not worth the effort for some games especially if they flake, but what if we had an "incubation period" of 2 to 4 weeks?Fickle, cold and harsh or caring and warm

Too bad they all forgot to patent it, so now you're technically stealingmyidea.
(read: the concept of stealing ideas is dumb, especially when it comes to this, so why is this even a point of discussion? Also, we should totes have the OP updated more often.)Fickle, cold and harsh or caring and warm

^ is pretty much the only argument against subforums, other than that the subforum will likely be dead within six months. That said, I can't tell how much of a hassle it would actually be for the Admins (for obvious reasons). And if it was implemented, it'd also be my favourite solution.

D: Wiiiiiiiill, they're ignoring the heart v_v I mean geeeez why would you even have a murder without a motive in the first place? (I haven't actually seen it because the ABC we get in Australia is completely different and so we don't get it at all)That link Lambda posted wrote:Zuiker told methese are “motive-less crimes,”and even he didn’t know which of the cast members was the murderer until late in the season.
