Rules for the 2003 Pokémon League

  1. Each contestant is limited to 1 (one) pokémon at the commencement of the League. However, all contestants are encouraged to catch and train wild pokémon from the forests surrounding the mafiascum.net Pokémon Staduim. League Director
    mole
will direct you to areas where you can find a specific pokémon. Sadly we are unable to provide any evolved pokémon - contestants must train them from their unevolved forms.
  2. Only pokémon numbered 1 - 149 (Bulbasaur to Dragonite) are permitted in this year's League.
  3. Members of Team Rocket are not allowed to participate in the League. Each day the contestants may nominate one of their number to be investigated by Leage Director
    mole
. However this will entail their disqualification from the League.
  4. All correspondance from League Director
    mole
    to contestants is
    private
and anyone caught quoting this correspondance in whole or in part will also be disqualified.

It's time for the opening ceremony! While League Director
mole
does all the dull bureaucratic stuff like register your arrival and make note of which pokémon you've brought, you're invited to take part in the 2003 Pokémon League Opening Ceremony!

Until I get mod access and put these into the rules above:

- Each night you can select
one
of your pokemon and use its ability. Some pokémon do not need to be used for you to gain their powers. You can also choose not to use any of your pokémon if you wish.

- Please feel free to ask any questions about the game or your pokémon.

Thanks for that, mathcam :)

Confirming here isn't necessary since everyone has to send me a choice for their second pokémon. Feel free to let everyone know you're here though, and/or ask questions about the game mechanics.

Each night (including this one) you have to send me:

a) The pokémon (if any) you will be using that night, and who (if anyone) you will be targetting with it,
b) The next pokémon you will attempt to catch. If you are successful I will tell you the abilities of your newest pokémon when I start the day,
c) Who you're gonna off, if you're a Rocket.

discer
will replace vIQles, who leaves the competition to attend another game.
Boo
has turned up to play.

Sending PM to discer. I have all the other choices, so I'll just ask him to confirm and choose a pokémon and we'll be done.

Boo
and
Electra
have both left the competition due to serious injury. We suspect Team Rocket activity and welcome any input from the players about what they and their pokémon saw last night. In fact, it'd be
really
great if you, say, discussed things amongst yourselves until you came up with a name...

Boo - Pokemon Trainer - left due to injury

Boo's Pokémon:
Meowth - Meowth likes Team Rocket members. If you send Meowth out to investigate a player, it will not return if the target was a Rocket. If the target isn't a Rocket it might take some time for Meowth to return to you, though.

Electra's Pokémon:
Squirtle - You can target yourself with Squirtle and get a one-shot protect for that night.

PBuG
was a Team Rocket member, who could injure someone each night and force them to pull out of the League.

His pokémon:

Grimer

If you choose to target someone with Grimer one night, the following day they will require one less vote to be lynched.

Bulbasaur

If you choose to use Bulbasaur, it will prevent its target from capturing any pokémon that night. You cannot target the same player with Bulbasaur on two consecutive nights.

Each night you can do all of the following:

a)
recruit a new pokemon
b)
train an existing pokémon by using it's ability. Some pokémon need to have targets specified, some target you, and some are always using their ability so you can pick a different one and still ahev the benefits of the first.
c)
kill someone (if you're a Rocket)

Three people have left the contest.

Maverick
's Abra tried to teleport him away, but the Rockets were too quick for him.

mlaker
lies unconscious in a different part of the forest. He has also been taken to hospital.

A while later,
discer
jumped out the window of his hotel room and ran from the area screaming. Something must have scared him pretty bad...

New pokémon identified:

Maverick carried
Magnemite

On one night during the game you may boradcast a message of no more than 6 letters to all other players who have Magnemites. PM me with the message on the night you wish to use this power.

and
Abra

Abra will automatically (you do not have to select it as your pokémon for its ability to work each night) protect you from danger if anyone tries to kill you. This ability can only be used once, on the first time you are attacked.

mlaker had
Bulbasaur
and
Drowzee

Drowzee can put someone to sleep, in which case they are unable to perform any actions that night, or kill someone if they are asleep that night.

discer had
Porygon

You can send Porygon out to investigate the computer network pokémon are stored on. It will return with the names of all the pokémon the player you target owns.

and
Nidoran (male)

If you are voting for someone, and a player who owns a Nidoran (female) is also voting for that player, this is counted as three votes instead of 2.

Happy new year, everyone!

It seems one of the players has taken the celebrations a bit too far, though, and somehow set the Pokémon Forest on fire.

All the competitors have been evacuated from their hotel rooms and are now gathered in the main stadium area - so it's time for a vote!

Nobody got to do anything last night. It's now day!

The town searches the stadium for League Director mole, eventually finding him and taking him back to where shadyforce awaits his elimination...

Or rather, awaited. He's nowhere to be seen. Looks like his Abra was able to help him after all.

It is time to bid farewell to
massive
, who was injured during the night.

His pokémon:

Moltres

Moltres will block all night actions the night it is used - kills, investigations, everything. There is only one Moltres available in this game.

Vulpix

Vulpix has a loud roar that scares away other pokémon. If you choose to use Vulpix on a night, any player who targets you with a pokémon will fail whatever they were doing.

Growlithe

You can use Growlithe to guard against the other players' pokémon. It will report back to you with the names and owners of the pokémon that attacked you.

shadyforce teleports back into the game to find that the other three players are going home.

"Welcome back!", says mathcam as he turns to leave, immediately after which he is struck twice from behind and collapses. He calls out for help, but everyone has already left for the forest, and perhaps some new pokémon.

mathcam's pokémon:

Bulbasaur will prevent its target from capturing a pokémon that night.

Nidoran (female)

shadyforce once again releases his Abra in attempt to escape the other two players, but this time it has no effect. He is eliminated from the game.

So ends the career of the most successful pokémon trainer ever. He may have cheated right from the start, he may have been personally responible for half the injuries in the game, but there was no denying his greatness.

More importantly, Fletcher points out soon afterwards, he was the only person able to stop the might of Team Rocket. He throws a pokéball at Stewie, who summons his own Abra and flees, and calmly walks towards the stadium to claim his trophy.

Congratulations to Team Rocket!

shadyforce was Gary, the World's Best (and Most Amoral) Pokémon Trainer:

Well, you've made it to the Pokémon League,
shadyforce
, and nobody's gonna stop you from winning. Least of all the other players, or the rules of engagement...

The first one you've broken is the one restricting you to a single pokémon at the start of the game. You've picked three of your best unevolved pokémon and brought them here to train them up. PM me with your choices, or if you'd like me to provide you with a list to help.

Then there's the rule against not hospitalising the other players. What kind of a rule is that, anyway? Each night you will challenge someone to a battle, which you will win, and after which they will be in no condition to continue in the League. Not that you care, of course. I mean, if they really wanted to win the Pokémon League, they would have... I dunno, worn a helmet or something.

shadyforce's pokémon:

Abra

Abra will automatically teleport you away from the first sign of danger. The first time you are killed or lynched you will instead be removed from the game for one full game day.

Articuno

Articuno has the one-shot ability to freeze a player, rendering them unable to post or vote, but also unable to be killed or lynched (in effect, removing them from the game). You may choose to unfreeze this player at any time by PMing me.

Gastly

Gastly grants you a one-shot kill, provided nobody else targets the player you are killing.

Scyther

Scyther automatically bypasses one protection on anyone you choose to kill (whether with a pokémon or via your own powers). If one person protects your target, they will still die, but if two or more protect your target they will live.

Stewie's pokémon:

Kangaskhan

Kangaskhan will protect you the first time you are attacked at night.

Abra

Abra will automatically teleport you away from the first sign of danger. The first time you are killed or lynched you will instead be removed from the game for one full game day.

Chansey

Chansey acts as a regular doctor.

Psyduck

Psyduck gives you a one-shot investigation.

Drowzee

You can choose from two attacks if you target someone with Drowzee:
a) Put a player to sleep. They will not do anything the night you put them to sleep.
b) Kill a player. This will only work if the target is also put to sleep that night.

Fletcher was the Team Rocket Leader:

Psyduck

Psyduck gives you a one-shot investigation.

Jigglypuff

Jigglypuff can put someone to sleep, meaning they cannot take any actions that night.

Kabuto

Kabuto gives you the one-shot ability to negate all protections on someone, so they can be killed by one player attacking them.

Growlithe

Growlithe can identify the other players' pokémon. If you use his ability one night, you will receive a lit of all the pokémon that targetted you that night, and their owners.

Chansey wasn't totally useless, though I guess he was practically useless by the endgame. Scyther was added to the list to balance the effects of everyone picking a doctor-type power early in the game, but by the end when there were only one or two players doing the protection he became far too powerful.
