It is different enough, that it feels like a completely different game. I have played a little bit to try it out.
The biggest difference is that "Adventure" is stressed a lot more than "building". There are dozens of different enemy types. Lots of different weapons, fast ones, wide ones, etc. I heard they have bosses and special enemy zones too, but I didn't see those.
On the other hand, you cannot build a mega structure like you can in Minecraft, climb a mountain far away and admire it at a distance. Since you don't have zoom out, the scope of what you can build is kinda limited. You have access to lots of interesting blocks and cool furnitude, but the lack of a third dimension limits creativity a bit.
All in all, a cool game, even though I prefer MC.
