This is a very simple game that can get very messy very quickly.

The game will start with 16 player
s
. Each round, players will send me a list of the other players from first to last. The players will then compete in a challenge. The player who places last in the challenge will be automatically eliminated. The t
o
p half of the competitors, rounded down, will then be safe for the Temple of Fate.

At the Temple of Fate, the player who placed first will have their list cons
u
lted. The player ranked highest who is not already safe will be saved from elimination. Next, the second highest player's list will be consulted, and so on down to the last player saved by the challenge. The last player not saved at the Temple of Fate will be elimi
n
ated.

At the end of the game, there will be a jury vote, where the Final 2 will argue their cases in front of a Jury of the 7 most recently eliminated players, who will vote on the winner.

Challenges will be posted every Tuesday and Fri
d
ay between 4 and 8pm EST. There will be no live challenges, though it is possible you may need to arrange to meet with me to complete a challenge. Lists will be due by 4pm on the day of the challenge. Submissions will be permitted to be changed until either deadline or when all submissions have been received.

As a reminder to those of us who enjoy clever subject lines: Please include the word "list" in all subject lines so it filters into my folder.

Alliance is not a verb. Alliance is a noun. You, sir, have verbed your noun.

Halfway through the pregame, I have half of the list. This amuses my simple mind.

(no rush, just by 4pm EDT tomorrow)

The challenge will probably be posted around 4 as I have evening plans and will be out during the later hours of my window.

Challenge #1: The Puzzle

This challenge is very simple, which means we'll have some wonderfully close times. How nice!

You will simply be putting a puzzle together. Your goal is to have the fastest time.

When you are ready to begin, click here to start the timer. You will be given the link to complete the puzzle. When you have completed it, take a screenshot of either the finish screen or your completed puzzle, along with a MafiaScum tab. It should look like either this or this.

When you have finished, upload your screenshot to imgur or another photosharing site, and paste the link into the Google Doc. Submit the Doc to finish the timer.

The seven players with the fastest time from first submission to second will be safe, and will choose seven other players to save at the Temple of Fate. The last player will be eliminated. You have 48 hours to begin. Good luck!

PROTIP: Exactly none of you know your EXACT time, as you don't have access to the timestamps and that's what counts.

Round 2

Players, you have until 4pm EST on Friday to send me your new lists from 1-13. When you send your list, please answer the following questions as well:

  1. How did you choose to rank the players on this list?
  2. Who moved the most on your list and why?
  3. How do the eliminations of RichardGHP and kdowns affect your play this round?
  4. How do you feel about your challenge placement from Round 1?
  5. (If applicable): Why do you think someone saved you in the List round? Did you expect someone else to?

: In the future, if you encounter issues with challenges such as the internet shitting out on you, things not loading properly or a 50-foot tall dinosaur attacking your house, please be sure to inform me prior to the results. This is generally good practice, but I thought I'd remind some of you.

Challenge 2

Your second challenge will be another race, and likely the last of the game provided I don't change my plan. So yeah, don't go forgetting that password anytime soon.

Your goal is to complete a simple word search. When I say "simple," I mean "I don't think it is so you'll probably complete it easily." It has 14 words hidden in it. In order to begin, click here for the form to start the timer.

To complete the word search, highlight all the words you find with an image editor: Photoshop, GIMP, Paint, what have you, and upload the finished product to a photo sharing site. Then, submit it through the form to stop your timer. For each word you fail to find, you will earn a 3-minute penalty.

The 6 players with the fastest time from start to finish will be safe, and will save someone else at the Temple of Fate. The player with the slowest time will be eliminated. All communication with other players about the challenge is completely verboten. You have 48 hours to begin. Good luck!

Challenge 2 Results

Welcome to the second elimination, players. In this challenge you had to race to find yourselves. How very existential.

I should note first that there was a secret name hidden in the word search: my own. If you found it I subtracted 3 minutes from your final time. I also intended to use it to settle ties but that wasn't necessary.

Remember, the top 6 players will be safe and will save someone else at the Temple of Fate. Let's begin!

In first place:

Image

xtopherusD

13 minutes, 33 seconds

In second place:

Image

TheBadOne

15 minutes, 10 seconds

Third place:

Image

Cybele

20 minutes, 47 seconds

In fourth place:

Image

Snakes

24 minutes, 58 seconds

That's four saved, and only two safe spots remain. Who claimed them? Find out next!

Welcome back! Two safe spots remain up for grabs. Let's find out who will be safe at the Temple!

In fifth place:

Image

SoraAdvent

25 minutes, 37 seconds

Finally, in sixth place:

Image

D3f3nd3r

26 minutes, 30 seconds

Congratulations to the top 6! Now we've still got to eliminate the slowest player. If you see your name, you are now safe from this elimination, but still vulnerable at the Temple.

In seventh place:

Image

Drench

27 minutes, 58 seconds

Eighth place:

Image

xofelf

31 minutes, 17 seconds

Ninth place:

Image

Axxle

33 minutes, 18 seconds

Five remain in danger, and one will leave us. Who will it be? Find out next!

Round 3

Players, you have until 4pm EST on Tuesday to send me your new lists from 1-11. When you send your list, please answer the following questions as well:

  1. How did you choose to rank the players on this list?
  2. Who moved the most on your list and why?
  3. How do the eliminations of animorpherv1 and Axxle affect your play this round?
  4. Who do you think is the biggest threat left in the game?
  5. (If applicable): Why do you think someone saved you in the Temple of Fate? Did you expect someone else to?
  6. (If applicable): Are you happy about who you saved in the Temple of Fate? Or would you rather have saved someone else?

Challenge 3

This one is a List classic. Actually, I accidentally stole several challenges from the last game, but this one was on purpose.

You'll be playing this eyeballing game. You may give it as many tries as you like. When you have finished, take a screenshot of your score (like so), along with a tab of this game, and PM it to me.

The five players with the lowest score will be safe, and will save another player. The highest player will be eliminated. In the event of a tie, the fastest time will win.

You have 48 hours to submit your score. Once you submit, your score is locked in. Do not share images with each other. Good luck!

As a heads up, while deadline is in less than an hour, due to real life commitments and also I don't love you, results won't go up until after 8.

Round 4

Players, you have until 4pm EST on Friday to send me your new lists from 1-9. When you send your list, please answer the following questions as well:

  1. How did you choose to rank the players on this list?
  2. Who moved the most on your list and why?
  3. How do the eliminations of Snakes and Pizzadudes7 affect your play this round?
  4. Who do you think is the biggest threat left in the game?
  5. The next player eliminated at the Temple will be the first Juror. Does this change your strategy? How?
  6. (If applicable): Why do you think someone saved you in the Temple of Fate? Did you expect someone else to?
  7. (If applicable): Are you happy about who you saved in the Temple of Fate? Or would you rather have saved someone else?

Challenge 4

Sorry about the lateness, guys, I'll make this quick. For this challenge, I will PM you each a list of ten obscure words, along with their definitions. Your goal is to create an alternate definition for the word that sounds plausible enough to fool my judges.

However, there is a catch. Your definition must begin with the same letter as the first letter of the real definition, barring articles or numbers.

As an example, if the word "apple" was defined as "a
r
ed fruit which grows on trees," your definition would have to begin with the letter "r."

After you have submitted, I will send the 11 definitions to my judges, who will rank the definitions from 1-11. If you have the top definition, you will get 11 points; the second, 10 points, and so on. However, if you rank lower than the real definition, you score no points from that judge.

You will have until
Sunday night at 7pm EST
to submit your definitions. Please pay close attention to the format I request in the PM, it will make my life a lot easier. You may discuss with each other, but please do not post about the words or contact non-players about the challenge, you never know who my judges are!

As a note, any category that refers to "you" does not have to just be you specifically. For example, "peanuts" would still count in the allergy category, even if you're not allergic, because many are.

He is currently being distracted by other family matters and a pretty girl. Stuff will be up soon. I'll go smack him and remind him now. For now, treat this like Easter break (cause it is).

I would like it on the record that he never did this because he's a terrible brother.

ANYWAY, yes, I was very very busy this weekend and was unable to do results without killing myself, so my deepest apologies. I'll get on those now, but we won't be behind as I was planning on giving the game Easter weekend off anyway (because I knew this would happen, I just thought I'd get these out first).

Round 6

Players, you have until 4pm EST on Tuesday to send me your new lists from 1-5. When you send your list, please answer the following questions as well:

  1. How did you choose to rank the players on this list?
  2. Who moved the most on your list and why?
  3. How do the eliminations of TheBadOne and xofelf affect your play this round?
  4. Who is the most dominant player in the game right now? Is that good or bad for you?
  5. What are your thoughts on the jury so far?
  6. (If applicable): Why do you think someone saved you in the Temple of Fate? Did you expect someone else to?
  7. (If applicable): Are you happy about who you saved in the Temple of Fate? Or would you rather have saved someone else?

Why were the two players starred? Tiebreaker?

Indeed. The tiebreaker put the two of their submissions up against each other only, and Twistedspoon scored more points that way.

Challenge 6

Today we'll be playing a
sweet
edition of The Vault! Before you stands a candy shop, specially furnished by me for this challenge. Inside are various candies, each worth a certain number of points. Each round, you may choose
one
candy to try to grab. If you are the only one to go for that candy in that round, you will grab it and earn the points. However, if the candy has already been grabbed or more than one player goes for it in the same round, you will get no points.

You have
24 hours
to submit your choices for each of the
five
rounds. Good luck!

Candy Shop Stock

  • Chocolate Coins - 1 point*
  • Lemon Drops - 3 points
  • Sour Skittles - 5 points
  • Hershey Kisses - 6 points
  • Twizzlers - 7 points
  • Baby Ruth - 8 points
  • Crunch Bar - 10 points
  • Hershey Bar - 15 points
  • Twix - 20 points
  • Payday - 23 points
  • Chansey Egg - 27 points
  • Chocolate-Covered Oreo - 30 points

*There is an unlimited quantity of chocolate coins; if you choose this option, you will automatically score a point for that round.

Challenge 7

For your final challenge, we will be testing your powers of observation. Sometime in the next 48 hours, you must arrange a time to meet with me and perform the challenge. When you do the challenge, you will be shown three YouTube videos and asked to answer questions about each. The player that answers the most questions correctly will be safe at the Temple, and will save their Final 2 partner. The player with the lowest score will be eliminated.

The challenge should take no longer than half an hour, as you will be permitted to watch each video twice. Please reserve a starting time in-thread; I would prefer not to have multiple players competing at once, but if it's unavoidable we'll talk.

My schedule:
All times in EDT

Friday: Free until 10pm
Saturday: Unavailable from 2-4pm, potential evening conflicts, check first
Sunday: No conflicts at the moment

I would greatly prefer it if you did not schedule at like 3am because I need my beauty sleep. You may also contact me via AIM (click the button below) or Skype (awspeidel) if you have questions.

Congratulations to both our finalists. You must now plead your case in front of our Jury of seven for the win. Here's how this works.

  1. You have 24 hours from this post ((expired on 2013-04-08 20:31:51)) to post an opening statement. Please keep it brief and to the point.
  2. Once both openings have been posted, Jurors have 24 hours ((expired on 2013-04-09 20:31:51)) to ask a question of each Juror or make a statement. Please keep it to one question per Juror.
  3. After that, there will be 24 hours for a closing statement ((expired on 2013-04-10 20:31:51)) and then one more period for the jury to send their votes ((expired on 2013-04-11 20:31:51)).

If you have any questions of me, please ask. Non-jurors, please refrain from posting during this time.

Average Lists

During the game, I kept track of who was doing well in the List phase by tabulating an "average list" for each round. The top player on each list got one point, while the bottom player got the most possible for that round. It is interesting to note that while this is very reliable at the start, as individual lists become more important in the later stages, the average list became pretty much irrelevant, but it's still cool to see.
