I think the playoff came at the right point in the season, where the better of the "new" teams have gotten up to the level where they're competitive with the "old" teams.

It will be interesting to see who gets through the promotion tournament.

Currently it's a little wonky because their website setup for World Championships is pretty poor.

If you just go here http://na.lolesports.com/ and scroll down a tad, you'll see a list of Upcoming Matches. They have a date and time above each one.

The next set of matches is the qualifying stage for world championships, so it's 5 or 6 days straight of several matches per day.

I dunno, to me once you get to the point where all of the people moving has been determined without a doubt, why not fuck around and have some fun? Nobody is giving Fnatic and Mineski shit for the Zilean / Sivir game for doing the same thing. I was expecting the entirety of Group A yesterday to be trollgames, and was actually fairly disappointed when they weren't.

Granted, I didn't know until this morning that they gave prize money even to the teams that didn't qualify for quarterfinals, but I think that's dumb as rocks in and of itself. Don't they all already get money for winning whatever they won to get into the group stage anyway?

uhhhh... do professional sport teams get extra money just for making the playoffs? If they do, I was not aware. I'll let your relative expertise speak to the games and teams themselves and not get involved in that discussion any further. As to the presentation of the event, I agree with some of what you said, and disagree with some other things.

I think the opening music bit was somewhat incomprehensible, yes. I think their number from last year was much better and less contrived. That said, it was still cooler than the pregame show for any major sporting event I've ever seen, with the exception of the Olympics. I definitely agree with the games being probably the least entertaining in the tournament, but Riot can't do much about that. There have been much duller Super Bowls than that. I definitely agree that the group stage scheduling was extremely poor, and they absolutely need to fix that. (That last day of the group stages was by far the worst part of the tournament, IMO.)

That all said, I think S2 finals -> S3 finals showcased some positive changes from Riot on the event-planning front. Nothing broke, there were no pauses in Finals, the casters never felt like they were floundering. They could do with shorter time between games, perhaps, or better ways to fill that time, but I'm not sure what the appropriate way to do that is. All in all, I certainly don't think Riot did poorly with this, and I think anyone who'd never watched an esports event before would have been impressed, or at the very least, not disappointed.

I've never disliked TSM for that reason, I've disliked TSM because they (read: mostly Regi) were assholes.

Minus Regi-as-player, that goes away somewhat. I still proably won't root for them in NA LCS, but I am more likely to root for them as NA reps in international competitions.

Fantasy LCS Scoring and Rules

Solo Laners and Marksmen:

Kill = 3 points
Assist = 2 point
50 CS = 1 point
Death = -2 points
Win = 15 points

Junglers:

Kill = 2 points
Assist = 2 points
50 CS = 1 point
Death = -2 points
Win = 15 points

Supports:

Kill = 1 point
Assists = 3 points
Death = -2 points
Win = 15 points

Drafting:

Draft order is randomized. Odd numbered rounds go from first to last, while even numbered rounds go from last to first.

Each team will consist of 8 total players. Each team must have at least two solo laners, one marksman, one support, and one jungler at all times. They may be chosen in any order. No player may be drafted more than once.

Eligible players are any player listed as a starter for any EU or NA LCS team.

The draft will take place after all Week 2 matches of the Split have been played. The season runs through the end of the Split.

The Season:

If, over the course of the season, an LCS team replaces a player, then the player that takes the slot of the removed player is placed in the appropriate Fantasy Team. (I.E., if Zuna leaves XDGG, Xmithie becomes their Marksman, and Guardsman Bob is brought as the new Jungler, then Player A (who had Zuna on their team) would now have Xmithie, and Player B (who had Xmithie) would now have Guardsman Bob.)

Trades can be made on days of the week that no matches are scheduled. The minimum number of each position (2 solo laners, 1 marksman, 1 jungler, 1 support) must be retained at all times.

Before each week’s matches, each player will submit 2 solo laners, 1 marksman, 1 jungler, and 1 support from their team of 8 to play for them. Points from each week will be tracked and totaled. At season’s end, the player with the highest total number of points will be declared the winner.

That means that 10 people being in either uses every player, or we should do two separate ones and cap each at 6 players or so. (I feel that is the wiser course of action.)

Also Maestro - We need more than 5 players per team to allow for things like teams who don't play during that particular week and trades that aren't forced into being ADC for ADC (which will rarely occur, methinks).

Also, as a fun note, the way I've written the rules does technically allow for two midlaners to be played at once since mid and top are both just classified as solo laners. Does anyone think that's problematic?

Also also, does anyone want to check and see if my numbers are at some level of balanced?

I make no denial that Mancloud is an absolute monster. Absolute terror in mid. I guess my opinion of XDG is probably colored by their performance at worlds more than it should be, since the competition in NA is (naturally) not as difficult as it is on the worlds stage.

Morg is nice against spell-heavy teams in general. She wasn't a hard counter to karma like she is for Thresh or Vi, but she's got solid poke and spellshield is pretty much always useful.

Yeah, Westrice was not impressive. Granted, Zion is rough to lane against, but there are plenty of other good toplaners in NA.

I'm sad to see coast go, but mostly because I feel like Shiphtur is obscenely good and really belongs in the LCS.

ZionSpartan isn't a good fit CLG, I don't think. CLG picked up Nien with the intent of him being a supportive toplaner for Link and Doublelift, whereas Zion would be another carry.

He could conceivably go to Curse or Dig, though.

Man, the scoring they have set up isn't position-based. I'm concerned that supports aren't going to be as useful as other positions, but then again, CS is weighted much less heavily than in ours (.01 per CS as opposed to .05 or .07), so it might be fine?

ESPN's World Cup bracket predictor had 32 points per round with 32 teams. We should be able to get 16 per round with 16 teams just as easily.

Groups: 1 point per team you pick to move on, 1 per team you get the correct seed for (total of 16 points, not 10)
Quarters: 4 points per correct pick (16)
Semis: 8 points per pick (16)
Finals: 16 points per pick (16)

Tiebreak is Bo5 score from the finals.
