A game for 14 players.


It's only been a few days since you read it in the newspaper.
"Band of gypsies enters nearby town, terrorizes locals"
is what it said. You went to the town along with most of your police-officer buddies to check if everything was alright the next day. Despite it only being a small town - maybe about 5,000 people maximum - they had no dedicated police force of there own, so you were often called in to "do the dirty" as it was called.

Once you got there, the whole atmosphere had changed - it was as if
the gypsies had taken over the town, as well as a sizable group of it's citizens
. You tried through that day and the next to restore order to the town, but you failed. And now you're stuck in the town, without a means of escape.

Survive.

About:
Gypsy Curse is a game for 14 players. Players will compete in challenges. In the vast majority of challenges, if a player comes in last, they will be eliminated from the game. The last player standing wins. Challenges will be of various types, but has a small focus on social games.

APPLICATIONOnce you are finished with the application, submit it.

1. What is your username?
2. What is your gender?
3. What games of this type have you played before, if any?
4. This game may take a few weeks. Do you plan to stay active?
5. Would you rather be the gypsy king or free all the citizens?
6. Provide a short (less than 150 word) description of your character’s appearance. Your only prohibition is you may not wear the colour
PURPLE
, as it is the colour of the gypsies. You can use no detail, or describe everything in great detail, if you can fit it. You may also opt to have the moderator come up with an outfit for you. It will have no bearing on how the game plays out.

Rules


0. Common sense applies in all things. If something seems iffy, you probably shouldn't be doing it. Or at least check with someone before you do.
1. Follow the site rules at all times.
2. This is a game. The primary objective is to have fun.
3. This is a game. The secondary objective is to win.
4. The moderator is not infallible. In the event I have made a mistake, please notify me as soon as possible, and I will rectify it.
5. If there is ever any confusion as to the rules of a challenge, the game, or something else, contact the moderator and it will be rectified immediately.
6. Any challenge that requires a submission is to be sent via PM to the account ‘Gypsy’. Any other means of submission may be deemed invalid at the will of the moderator.
7. All tiebreakers will be submitted WITH challenge submissions, if asked for.
8. Do not use the colour
PURPLE
. It is the colour of the gypsies.
9. Rules may be added or removed at any time at the whim of the moderator.

I have received the description.

I'll open the game now, and I'll spend some time on making the characters that I was asked to make. In the mean time, {Challenge 01} will start on Saturday, at 10 PM Eastern Time. No challenges in this game are live. There is one that could be called semi-live, and it will be announced when it happens.

Challenge 1 - Popularity



It’s morning. You wake up in the town and meet your police officer buddies. You were requested to show up in town without your gear, and dress up as “normal civilians”, but it became quickly apparent none of you know what "normal" is. One by one, you arrive in the middle of the street.


The first person out of the doors was
orcinus_theoriginal
. He was wearing a long, beige trench coat, fedora, and sunglasses. He looked like he just came out of a 1950s cop film, or L.A. Noire. Take your pick.

Klick
and
xofelf
were walking out the doors, chatting like there was no tomorrow. Klick was dressed like a mad scientist, with the crazy white hair, long labcoat, and glasses. xofelf was dressed like she was going to a renaissance fair, with a long flowy gown. You suspect that it has many hidden pockets, but it's impossible to tell.

When
Jal
walked out of the door, jaws dropped. She looked like a million bucks! You adore her red high heels. When
TheIrishPope
came out of the door shortly after, oozing sex appeal, you were certain the two were related.

Equinox
came out of the doors in a beige suit, and had fancy red spike hair - no different from what she would generally wear on most days out.

Marya Morevna
(Cybele) was instantly recognizable. She has a scar under one of her eyes and more black hair than you'll ever see on anyone else. Her black marshal's unfiorm gave it away to.

Blastoide
walks out the door of a secondary hotel, because he was "too sexy for his room", or something. But you understand when he takes off his black hoodie - did it suddenly get hotter in here, or is that just me? No one wants to get too close to him - rumors got around that someone died from the amount of sexy this man possesses.

Raynen
(Nicholas1024) exits the hotel with his annual "April Fool's Toga" on. Looking around, he realizes it's May 11th, so he takes off the Toga to reveal a fairly average looking green shirt. Oh well.

After Raynen disappears into the crowd, Batman busts out of the hotel door, gadgets at the ready. After lots of confusion,
kdowns
takes off the mask and says "What? I thought we were fighting evil".

D3f3nd3r
walks, or rather, he struts, out of the hotel room. He's wearing his pink V-Cut T-Shirt, with his diamond earrings and his Louis Vuitton purse. Is he gay? You think so.

KingdomAces
walks out of the door, and everyone falls silent - not because he looks good. In fact, it's the exact opposite. He's wearing sweatshirts and sweatpants, and it looks like he got out of bed late, and had to rush his way downstairs. He slinks his way into the crowd as
MontyWhittaker
walks out. The crowd is still in shock, because no one as any idea who dressed worse - Monty or KingdomAces. Monty's clothes look 20 years old, and full of holes. He turns his head and you notice a few scars before he walks into the crowd.

The last person to show is
mastermind
. With his spiked black hair, white t-shirt, and ripped jeans, you're certain he's just looking for trouble. He forces his way into the crowd, and you all start to chatter.

A few minutes go by, and the group starts to talk about how to fix the problem. However, a
flash of purple catches
your eye - it’s the
gypsies! RUN!



Explanation:


You are running from the gypsies. In order to avoid elimination, you must shove other players so they end up behind you. You can only shove once, so make it count. In order to shove a player, submit the player you wish to shove.


The player with the most shoves will fall behind the pack, and be taken away by the gypsies.


Tiebreaker: List 5 numbers between 1 and 100. The player(s) with the lowest unique number(s) are safe. Once a player is safe, his numbers are then removed from the tiebreaker. This continues until all but one player is safe. The player not safe is eliminated


{24 hours} to shove.

Challenge 2 - The Great Escape


“You think we lost ‘em?” Jal asks.

“Yea, but we lost mastermind doing it.” Raynen responds.

“We’ll have to do this for mastermind then.” Klick says. Just then, the
gypsies

round the corner. You look around for buildings to run into:


Explanation:

Congratulations on surviving the first challenge! However, the gypsies
have not given up the chase. You took a look around, and see 3
buildings nearby that could potentially provide shelter from a gypsy
attack. They are, as follows:

1. The Bar - There must be some broken bottles and some empty stools
to use as defense here!
2. The Hospital - Maybe you could stab them to death with a needle?
3. A Local 5 Star Restaurant - Well, it’s abandoned now. You could
surely use some of the kitchen equipment!

You must submit which building you would like to run into - the group
will run into the room with the most suggestions. There will be no
elimination after this challenge.

{24 hours} to choose.

Challenge 3 - Election?


The group has little time to argue - the others start running toward the Hospital, so you follow suit. The gypsies notice you running into the Hospital as well, and follow you in.

Well, now you’re cornered.
The gypsies
demand sacrifice, and there are far more of them then there are of you, so you have to give in.

“Let’s settle this the old fashioned way - DEMOCRACY!” orcinus yells. You agree. After all, it’s not like you have much else to suggest.


Explanation:

You’re cornered. The gypsies are asking for a human sacrifice from you, and you have to listen to them. You’re going to do this the old fashioned way, democracy.

You all have three “voting points” to use. In thread, you vote for a “leader” via giving points. Once someone gets a majority of the points, they become leader. You have
{48 hours}
to discuss and vote. Once a leader is elected, he or she has
{24 hours}
to post a sacrifice to the gypsies. The leader may not sacrifice him/herself.

Challenge 4 - Majority Twist


The gypsies
run off with Monty, who is pushing, shoving, and screaming for his/her life. While you feel bad for him/her, you have to keep going - obviously not outside. So, you scour around for a bit, when suddenly Equinox cries “Eureka!” Everyone huddles around Equinox as he/she opens a secret hatch. You crawl through the hatch, and end up in a
passageway
of sorts.

The group walks for a bit, and trades horror stories - there’s not much else you can do at this point. Then, you run into a monument, with the inscription reading “To Our King -
Hung Root
. May peace and prosperity forever be with us.” Looks like you found one of the
gypsy tunnels!


No sooner do you realize that then do the walls close in around you, and a tablet that reads the following:


Explanation:

You’ve found your way into a gypsy tunnel, but now you’re trapped. Answer the following questions. You get one point for each answer that is with the majority. The player with the least points is eliminated.

However, this challenge has a twist. The player with the second least amount of points (or the player that scored highest in the elimination tiebreaker, if there is a tie for last), will win a secret prize. So, do you go for safety, or risk it all and go for the prize? It’s your choice.

Question 1: Yes or no, will xofelf make a good leader?
Question 2: Yes or no, did Monty deserve to be eliminated in challenge 3?
Question 3: Yes or no, will the leader be eliminated in a challenge soon?
Question 4: Which player is braver: orcinus, Blastoide, or KingdomAces?
Question 5: Which player is more likely to be eliminated: D3f3nd3r, Equinox, or Jal?
Question 6: Yes or no, Marya (Cybele) is cowardly.
Question 7: Yes or no, Raynen (Nicholas1024) would make a better leader than xofelf.
Question 8: Yes or no, Jal wore a better outfit than Blastoide.
Question 9: Who would more likely win an endgame scenario: Equinox, orcinus, or Marya (Cybele)?
Question 10: Which player would you rather bring back: mastermind or Monty?
Question 11: Yes or no, you would risk elimination from the game for the reward.
Question 12: Yes or no, you would rather not risk your position in the game for the reward.
Question 13: Yes or no, there is a player in this game I want eliminated.

Tiebreaker: The Leader chooses who to save. The first saved player will get a reward. HOWEVER. If any of the group disagrees, they can mutiny, by posting the following (in bold):

{Character} mutinies against {Leader}’s choice!


There will be {24 hours} to mutiny, and another 24 for others to decide to mutiny or not. If a majority of the current players choose to mutiny, the Leader is eliminated instead, and the group comes to a majority decision as to who they want to reward of the tied players. Then a new Leader is chosen.

{48 hours} to submit.

Challenge 5 - Fire Walkers


You watch as a gigantic hole in the floor opens and swallows up D3f3nd3r whole. xofelf stresses that you have to keep trudging forward if you want to get rid of the
gypsies
. Soon enough, you reach many giant, flaming platforms. No one is interested in crossing them, so you start looking around for another
secret passage
, but fail to find any. I hope you remember how to walk across hot coals.


Explanation:

In order to continue walking down the path, you have to get across many hot platforms. To do so, you have {1000} energy to spend across {15} platforms. If you come in last on a platform, half of your energy to be spent on the last platform vanishes. The player with the least amount of energy remaining on the last platform is eliminated. In the event that a number cannot be halved evenly, it is rounded down.

Tiebreaker: Leader chooses elimination. Mutiny rules from {Challenge 4} still apply.

Example:

Jeremy comes in last on three platforms, and spent 400 energy on the final platform. He actually only spent 50 energy, or (400/2)/2)/2).

{48 hours} to submit.

One by one, you all exit your chambers. That is, except Cybele, who appears to be stuck, yelling and screaming “LET ME OUT!” and pounding on the wall. You ignore him, as there is nothing you can do, and continue moving forward.

Explanation:

Congratulations on making it so far! Sadly, you still have quite a ways to go. On each scale, there is
{10} gypsy rings
. You may keep these on your scale, or place them on your opponent’s scales as you see fit. The player with the highest number of rings will choose someone to be eliminated.

In the event of a tie, the Leader chooses who to kill. Mutiny rule still applies.

Challenge 8 - One Last Chance


After much mulling and weighing, Klick is chosen to eliminate, and eliminates kdowns, who, obviously, isn’t very pleased about it. The group walks on for a long time, when some
scuttling feet
are heard from the other side of the wall.

Immediately following, Equinox steps on a pressure plate, and a door opens. You all run inside, because, well, what else would you do when a door opens? Ignore it? Phooey.

Inside the door is all of your friends that have gone missing, have been taken away, or just plain out got very unlucky! This confuses you greatly, because didn’t Monty get used as a sacrifice? Didn’t TheIrishPope get trapped on a platform of fire? As you go to unlock one,
the gypsies arrive
. They say that since you got here first, you can take one and go. As they turn their back, you hear them say something about resurrection magic.

What are you waiting for! Pick!


Explanation:

You get
{72 hours}
to come to a decision in regards to what player you would like to bring back into the game.

The Leader will post a final decision, and the mutiny rule is still in effect. The group then chooses which player to bring back in via majority vote, with the deadline refreshed. A new leader is then immediately chosen via majority vote.

Explanation:

Within the next

to submit a player as an ‘enemy’. The player with the most votes will become the enemy. In the event of a tie, all non-tied voters will submit a vote. You cannot vote for yourself.

Fear not, enemy. For your vote will not count towards that of selecting an enemy. Instead, it will kill the person you vote for!

In the event of a further tie, the Leader chooses the enemy. The enemy then kills the person the first person they voted for. If the Leader is killed, a new one is chosen via majority vote from the group. Mutiny rule is still in effect.

Challenge 10 - All The Way To The Bank


You’ve made your way out of the
secret passageway
and into a
bank
. You look around, and it appears to be empty. Jal looks out the window and notices that there are many more
gypsies
than there were before, so you look around the bank and find a lot of
vaults
, locked tight with a “DO NOT OPEN” sign on them. Just then, you notice one of the vaults is open. It contains a
magical item
. If that’s a sign, you want what’s in those vaults.


Explanation:

You’re in a bank, and there are
seven vaults
. You think that within these vaults contains temporary safety from the gypsies, but one of them contains much more. It contains the ability to sacrifice a player to the gypsies, ensuring your safety. You have
{15} rounds
to grab from the following 7 vaults:


Alpha Vault
Beta Vault
Gamma Vault
Delta Vault
Epsilon Vault
Zeta Vault
Eta Vault

Within the Alpha Vault is the
magical item
that will let you eliminate a player from the game. If you get this, you must use it.

As well, if you don’t end up with an item from these vaults, you are eliminated.

Tiebreakers:

1) If two players do not get a vault, both are eliminated. The
magical item
is not used.

2a) If three or more players do not get a vault, they must resubmit. They may not choose any vaults that have had their item taken.

2b) If there are still three or more players without a vault, xofelf chooses an elimination from the group, and the player with the
magical item
chooses the second.

This decision was a bad one.
This decision was made in order to level the playing field. That cannot happen with the above analogy.

Challenge 11 - Strength Test


The group exits the bank and goes for a walk around town. You pass by a
gypsy horde
and make it through. Well, most of you made it through. orcinus_theoriginal and kdowns weren’t able to, so they drifted away with the rest. However, now you face an even greater challenge - you have to FIND the source of the gypsies, and get rid of it. After a tour of the city, you trudge through the outskirts, and into an abandoned scrap yard. You split up with the group to cover more area, and end up trapping yourself between two slabs of metal. I hope you have enough strength to get you through this one...


Explanation:

You’re stuck between two pieces of metal. Hold on to the slabs of metal as long as possible as you slide out of there!

Shortly, each player will be given a quicktopic to post in for the test. You will post the following in your confessional every 10 minutes in said quicktopic:

Are you still able to extend the deadline? I have school once the deadline is up and was hoping to do it after school today, but things came up. If you can't then that's fine and I can totally do as much as I can tonight.

As you exit the gigantic metal plates, xofelf gets crushed. Seeing as the leader killed demotivates the group, but they trudge inside anyways.

After about a half hour, Equinox finds another

that you all enter, and start walking. In the distance, there is a house. What could that mean? However, there is a set of massive dice right in front of you. And they’re blocking your path to the house. How great...


Explanation:

You’ll be playing part of a game of Liar’s Dice. I’ll give you all a set of
{2}
dice that I rolled. That is your hand for that round. Once your turn shows, you have
{12 hours}
to post a suggestion - how many of one face of die you think there is (ex. Five 6s, or Two 1s). At any point, a player may call a fraud/phoney/etc. In that case, all dice will be revealed, and if the player made a correct call, the called player loses one die for the rest of the game. If the call was incorrect, however, that caller loses one die for the rest of the game. I will then send out hands, with updated die counts, and the next round will begin. And just so we’re clear, you can still message other players.

Once a player is eliminated from the challenge (either by losing all dice or missing 4 deadlines), the challenge is over, and that player will be eliminated from the game.

Challenge 13 - Eyeballing


KingdomAces is crushed by a giant set of dice, opening up a passageway for you to get to the house. And you do so with a vengeance - after all, being crushed by a set of giant dice is a fairly humiliating way to go.

You reach the house without any more major incidents or loss of life. There’s some wet feet, and a bad attitude from Blastoide, but other than that, you’re good. The door however, has a weird locking mechanism.


Explanation:

You’ve arrived at the house, but the door is locked, and the unlocking mechanism is a weird eyeballing test. Do this test,and try to get the LOWEST score possible (You’re scoring like golf. Lower = better). Once you have a score you wish to submit, submit a screenshot and include a mafiascum tab.

The player with the highest average error score will be eliminated. Time taken will be used as a tiebreaker.

Challenge started early because everyone approved it.


Challenge 14 - Hide For Your Life


Right after Equinox unlocks the door,
gypsies
arrive and kill him! You run inside and hide from the gypsies. Quick, find a place to hide and hope the
gypsies
don’t find you.


Explanation:

You are inside a house of a gypsy warrior. They are looking to find you, make sure they don’t!

To start the challenge, you have
{48 hours}
to hide in the house. You may hide in any one location here, minus the spot the gypsy avatar is in. Please submit for both rounds at once. You may hide in a different spot each round.

When you submit the above, also submit two lists (one for each round) of locations for the gypsy warrior to search. The gypsy will move to the first available spot on your list that hasn’t already been chosen.

Once all submissions are in, I will randomize the turn order for the first round. I will then view that player’s list and consult where the gypsy moves. If the gypsy warrior is in the same room as a player, they are eliminated from the round. Once all players but one are found, that player runs from the gypsy warrior into the safe area underneath the house, and the next round starts. This continues until all but one player is found.

That player will be eliminated.

Tiebreaker: List 5 numbers between 1 and 100. The player(s) with the lowest unique number(s) are safe. Once a player is safe, his numbers are then removed from the tiebreaker. This continues until all but one player is safe. The last player left will be eliminated.

Challenge 16 - Spectacle


You enter the room. Alone. 14 started, but you were the only player to make it to
Hung Root’s Temple
. As you stand there, he turns around.

Hung Root
is definitely male. He stands at a towering 6 foot 5, with a build that isn’t lanky, but definitely not bulky. He’s not a man of many words, but he does challenge you to a fight. You accept. After all, the reason you’re here is to rid the gypsies from the town - and killing him seems to be the only way to do so.

You know you need help - you frantically panic as you look around the room for someone who will help you - anyone. But all you see are
gypsies
.

That is, until your friends return. Some of them are in spirit form, and some of them are still alive. All of them are wearing bulky armor. And all of them are willing to help you - for their own reasons.


Explanation:

Congratulations, Blastoide! You have made it to the finale! For your final game, you will be playing a rumble. You are facing off against King Root, with the help of your friendly police officer buddies. You may select two people. I'll send a PM to all eliminated players shortly.

, after some deliberation. Suddenly, the air around you starts to get thick, but has a sweet smell to it. After a few minutes, you start to crackle with
magical energy
. This lasts for around a half hour before everything goes back to normal - except for one thing. D3f3nd3r, TheIrishPope, Jal, and KingdomAces look like they were never dead. The
resurrection magic
wasn’t a hoax! Oh well, at least you have some sweet new powers to fend them off with.


OK, this is how Rumble works. Each player on both sides will be given an amount of energy, and a set of ‘special actions’. Each action will be either active (You must specify when you want to use it) or passive (always working, or works only at a specific time).

There are several basic actions used throughout the game:

-Defend yourself: Spend X energy to negate that amount of damage done towards you that round.

-Attack an enemy: Spend X energy to attack. If the total sum of all attacks at him is MORE than the amount of defense spent on the character, you do damage equal to Attack - Defence. Otherwise this does nothing.

-Use a special: Follow the directions on your special action. It will do what it says.

Any energy spent will be given back to you at the start of the next round. If a special action requires you to burn energy, you will not get it back.

Regarding special actions:

Special actions do exactly what they say on the tin. If a special action doubles the amount of defence your character has, and you spend 50 energy on defence, you now have 100 defence. All actions that are passive are labelled as such - and if they have a specific time in which they work (like if a passive ability activates once you hit a certain amount of health, or you fulfil some other condition). Special actions may ask you to burn energy, spend energy, or do neither.

You will not be told the special actions of other players OR enemies, aside from what is given at the start of round 1. Other players may share with you this information as they wish, but you will only see abilities on enemy NPCs when I reveal them.

Once powers are given out,

for all players to submit an action per round.

Blastoide:

If your team dies, you will be eliminated, and everyone else minus you, Jal, and KingdomAces will win.
