Bastard Mod Mafia roles.

I think the worst of the bunch were the single townie with the false "townie info", and the Nightwatchman. The second falls foul of the Post Restrictions Suck 'rule', and the first is avoidable in most games since the Mod isn't usually actively misleading you.

A Werewolf/Mafia mason team, though, was just comedy gold.

Let me just say for anyone who might be minded to make such a game, balancing this beast is not for the faint of heart. Mine turned out okay, but I suspect it could have easily not. If your goal is simply to be a Bastard Mod, then I suppose whatever happens falls within the guidelines you've provided. But if you actually want a game with a long list of negative value roles to work as a playable and fair game, most of the ideas suggested here aren't going to work.

QFT. Bastard Mod would have worked better if it had been bastardy toward everyone, rather than just the town.

In a game in another forum, I'm doing a bunch of roles which no one there will completely understand: Fritzler, who thinks he can do anything but actually messes everything up, Glrok, who's imitating Fritzler and actually can do anything, Glork, who's trying to kill Glrok (who he believes to be a Glork impersonator), and a random Lyncher who's trying to kill Glork.

Of course, most of the players there have never even heard of Mafiascum, so they'll be so confused they'll Google all the names and end up here. Then we'll finally have them in our grasp.

And they'll lose every time. They're sheep, following around whatever woll in sheep's clothing who's the loudest. It'll be funny. I will laugh. But then they'll become better, and my entertainment will be over.

Until they come upon this post in their searches, anyway...

You win with town, and are confident your buddies are protown as well.

Finally, the difference in chess skill is likely to be vast in a mafia game, even with an announced theme.

This is my biggest problem with it (although the time-taken problem is NOT insignificant). RPS is not analogous because it IS possible to win any given game of RPS, just some players have a slight edge. If I go up against Sudo_Nym in chess, however, I will lose every time.

The law has failed at catching the mafia, so you've decided to take matters into your own hands. Every night, you pick up a gun and hunt down evildoers, at least, you think they're evildoers. You're not always right. If the police caught you, you'd be declared a criminal and executed for murder. Every time you kill someone, you question your motives. You know that you can kill people, but you're not sure if you're doing it for the good of the town, or because it feels good.

Modnote: Is either an SK or a vigi. Doesn't actually start with an alignment. Gains an alignment whenever the mod decides to give them one, though some scenarios (e.g. All other scum dead, many townies left) may force an alignment decision. Randomness is not required when deciding, the mod can decide based in whim, play style of player, or whatever else they want to use to decide.
