How did you win/lose?
Are you asking what my strategy was or how you win/lose the game?
Let me rephrase. How did the winner win?

I won the only time I played with most of my points off a single tile(Mercer's Guild). As for green meeples, we had two tiles where we could get them. The only time I used them was to secure first turn in winter, though.
It was a combination of a few things. I did heavy resource creation in winter and then moved them all to my lumber yard for 3 points each, as well as having upgraded all my buildings.

How much transport was in your game? We only had the wainwright come up, and that was in fall. I kept my village small, though, so I could flip every tile worth flipping early on, especially the Workshop.

3 hexes total in a 5-player game. I got one of them.

Had an awesome first night at a LGS with my friends! I mean, we kept to ourselves, but it was fun nonetheless.

I wished to introduce my friends to
Ticket to Ride
, but wouldn't you know it the other group there was playing it. I don't even know if I could've because they quite quickly picked out some board games to try:
World War Z
and
Chupacabra: Survive the Night
. I also brought
Incan Gold
over because I knew it was simple and had a fun mechanic.

We started with
World War Z
, which is, in reality a commercial version of Pandemic. Like literally. There is a map of the world divided into different areas which populate with zombies that you have to killl. However, we found it immensely difficult. The lowest-level horde is just as strong as a human, so rolls usually do not end up in your favour. Additionally, players can be eliminated and turn into zombies which directly oppose the remaining human players. Suffice it to say, we lost.

Next we played
Incan Gold
, and they really liked it once they got the hang of it. Pretty simple, nothing much to say.

Finally we played
Chupacabra: Survive the Night
, which is a simple dice rolling game. Basically you have dice that have differing types of livestock on five faces and a chupacabra on one, and you use any chupacabra rolls you get to capture other players' dice that rolled livestock. It is very easy and luck-based, but fun. I ended up buying it at my friends request.

Games I've played recently:

Agricola: I lost pretty badly, I think. Didn't get a lot of people or upgrade my houses. (Final score:24)

Village: I managed to win this by some margin, with a combination of points mostly from the chronicle, the market, and travel.(Final score: 55)

When playing the games, it felt like there was a lot more rigmarole involved in getting points in Agricola than in Village, which is partially why I liked Village better. Also, I won.

I remember being in a board game group, and always wanting to play agricola, even though everyone thought agricola sucked. We did play it at some point and actually it was kind of nice, though it didn't blow my socks off or anything. I think it gets much better if you play it a couple of times.

What I did play recently is DIPLOMACY. The full thing with 7 players ! In lack of a dedicated GM we just put the orders in a box, which works fine. The game lasted, I think, maybe 6 hours or so. We stopped when the winning alliance was kind of obvious; this is not a game you want to play till the bitter end as it can get very tedious at that point.

Worker placement is a saturated market, but I feel like Agricola is just the most balanced between theme/strategy/agony/fun. I've played the game so many times, it never seems to lose replay value.

To each their own. :)

I've found that Agricola overstays its welcome about a half hour to an hour too long for me, especially if you have a new player.

I really like Agricola, because I always enjoy that "I don't have enough time! My board would have been awesome if I'd had one more turn" feeling.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

I played Castles of Burgundy last night. I really enjoyed it, it has neat mechanics and a nice mix between short-term reaction and long-term planning.

Sadly, no. A friend of mine is, but that's not much help.

I just bought Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island. Very excited to play it on Sunday.

For the first time in six years, no. :(
It used to be right before college started and an hour away. Now I'm on the other side of the country.

Large Amazon sale on strategy board games - hnggh

Most of them aren't that great since Amazon prices are so great anyway, but deals nonetheless. I have my eyes on Castles of Burgundy and Formula D (which is apparently a good deal from what I've read so far). Unfortunately I only have a day to decide :(

You don't need friends; you can just buy them and pretend :S

Saint Malo has also caught my attention. Very interesting game with dice-rolling mechanics where you DRAW your lands/estate/whatever.

Guess I'm finally picking up 7 Wonders! I told myself if it weren't so expensive I would get it, so I guess now I don't have any excuse.

Now I can watch it gather dust on top of all my other board games! Whoo!

7 Wonders is some good stuff, and there's a ton of content that adds depth and additional strategy. Cities is good, Leaders is slightly better, and BGG has fan-made expansions that seem snazzy.
