To be fair, those are pretty common opinions.

If you like Nintendo games (read: Super Mario 3D World, Smash, Pikmin 3[this isn't a system seller though], Zelda (Wind Waker or waiting for the Wii U title), Metroid and FE (since SMTxFE is somewhat still real?) then you should buy a Wii U.

Anything else? No, not really.
Monster Hunter 3U is an amazing game and easily the consoles current best, and I'm a huge nintendo fan.

So far Super Mario 3D World might be better but It just came out and I haven't gone through all of it yet.
Mostly wondering if the newer Marios are more like Mario 3 on the NES and Super Mario World on the SNES and less like Mario 64. (I more or less outright dislike that game.)
Heeeeeeeeeeey! I pretty much dislike Mario 64 as well though I prefer it to some things.
I think if you played 3D world you would enjoy it. (Bonus points if you have a friend to play through it with you, that adds a different level of entertainment)

YES!!!! I loved fallout 3 but I was really disappointed with New Vegas. I hope Fallout 4 goes back to the survival/horror.
Really? Wow, that's the opposite of what I've heard from most people. I hadn't played fallout before 3, but I thought New Vegas was just a far more polished game.
Yeah I asked sudo_nym to buy me fallout 3 and he was like "FUCK YOU IM BUYING YOU NEW VEGAS INSTEAD"
and honestly it is a great game. My 2nd favorite WRPG hands down. (next to Dragon Age: Origins) ...I've seen playthroughs of 3 and it just seems to really pale in comparison.
I really hope 4 is more like new vegas than 3.
But hey everyone has their preferences! I feel a preference for 3 is probably more rare, though.

Also new civ 5 expansion is pretty fun but yeah with trade routs you can get RIDICULOUS amounts of gold per turn...
I played a 12 hour (standard size) game with my boyfriend yesterday and he was getting like 700+ gold per turn midgame without having a golden age. He was on Bablyon, I think.

Reck you should get Dragon age Origins if you ever see it on sale. (But not the sequel) I think you'll find it's different than fallout and Skyrim. (Though if you have played New Vegas and didn't like it then I'm less confident in that assertion)
Unlike Skyrim and Fallout 3 it has excellent characters, voice acting and writing. The game play is difficult enough to be a challenge.

When I played Skyrim despite all the quests and characters I felt so... lonely. Everyone felt so artificial and stale. I could not get immersed, even visually with the highest graphical settings. The combat is just too boring and despite having several novels worth of dialogue it seemed the game was more of a "quantity" than "quality"...

Dragon age though, it's made me feel things I've never felt while playing a WRPG before. Some of the characters are complete dicks/bitches and I HATE them for their personalities and yet... they made me feel these things for a fictional character. Not something I can say about a lot of other games. Then there are some actual grey and grey morality choices where it actually would just be your personal opinion of what you're doing is right or wrong. (I've seen 10+ page debates on what was the "correct moral decision" for certain parts of the game and I still haven't come to a conclusion)

I could go on about it, but basically Dragon Age is the best thing I've played in years and I'm still not even finished with it but I'm likely going to do multiple playthroughs with different races/genders. DA is also the first game that's made me want to actually go and make a male character just for the different dialogue and interactions.

Yeah I don't think the formula for DOA was unique, but I think it executed it well. Though I don't think everything needs to be unique to have merit. I personally like that it doesn't get super silly with "a rose by any other name" archetypes.
Also I find the combat super fun. But maybe that's because on some parts I die a LOT and really have to think about how to do things/position properly to succeed.

I can think of one part of DOA that I really don't like.
The Fade
...but even though there is DLC to skip that part.. I don't think I would want to use it. Still. It was pretty annoying. :c

Saint's Row IV, Sid Meier's Civilization V, Banished, Portal 2, Watch Dogs
Two of those games(Civ 5 and Banished) don't have a story at all per se, and Watch Dogs's story wasn't compelling enough finish the game or to stop me from playing the minigames.

I'd suggest Sleeping Dogs, Thomas Was Alone, and Papers, Please.

Don't waste your time on Thomas Was Alone. It was mindnumbingly pretentious and boring. The puzzles are also stupid easy and don't really develop any difficulty over time.

but that's getting off into the weeds.

and anyway, what I found really contradictory between their data and their arguments with was their claim that female characters are being FORCED into behaving sexually when they show female characters being willing and enthusiastic participants in sexual activity. now, there is a much more nuanced argument to be made that it's a more insidious form of sexism to show women using sex as a tool and a currency (although I think, from a feminist perspective, that women should have every right to monetize and commodify their sexuality) as their main thing to offer a player, but THEY COMPLETELY IGNORED THAT ARGUMENT and just pushed ahead with the argument that female characters in video games have no agency.

There's definitely a fine line. I don't agree with Sarkeesian on all her points(for instance, I think that Bayonetta is a fantastic example of a feminist character who has agency and uses her sexuality as part of her character), but this one has an interesting line between "forced as part of the programming" and "willing and enthusiastic", which I can't really speak to with much authority.

Also I think the main point is "hey, games have a lot of really sexist stuff going on. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy them or anything, just keep an eye on it"

Yeah Bayonetta is definitely a sexualized character done right imo!

This is the first FF I've ever watched where I thought many legitimate points were made. But I still don't think that all females being sexualized in games is bad, and I really dislike the anti-sexy/cute outfits argument. Especially when the outfit isn't even what you normally run through the game with.

For me more though when it comes to "Women as prizes" in videogames, that trope is also just super boring and overdone.

Yeah. And it doesn't make much sense to have it one way or not the other. A fictional character is always going to be an object, no matter what they "decide" to do. Whether they are sexy or not. The question should be whether the object is written in a harmful or oppressive manner, not whether or not it is an object.

Many of the example in Anita's video are cherry picked also, because she points out women being treated a certain way in a game where the men are treated the exact same way- or doesn't show the whole picture. Like in Fallout NV, there are male sex workers who are presented in the exact same way as the female ones but she never even acknowledges them. The main issue with FF is that it comes off as being written by someone looking for problems within a medium they don't participate in or understand.

I agree with the above completely but I think that if you're going to point out something that is contributing to harmful pervasive stereotypes then it's probably good to make sure that your examples are actually accurate.
Which is why I think the goal of FF is noble and good but the execution is often poor. Not that it needs to be perfect, it just seems like cherry-picking and lack of game knowledge within the videos are very ...frequent.
That said, the FF in question certainly had more hits than misses this time around.

I was posting about my issues with it, hoping to have an actual discussion about the game, but apparently laughing at me is more important than actually trying to have a discussion and understand where I'm coming from.

Well if you want to have a discussion where you can complain more thoroughly and openly about your specific issues, Ythan made an Undertale-specific thread that I haven't read because it's supposed to be for people that played the game already.

Oh ho ho, I wish I was good with him, that would be impressive!
Hes just the one I suck and die least with.
And yes his egg move is very easy to fuck up with if you don't take the time to practice it. And really, who has time for that??? :B

"Game & Wario" came out for Wii U in 2013
But
it's pretty mediocre
I like playing the Fruit detective and it's version of pictionary but there's just not much quality content with it
it's like $30 though so a cheaper WiiU game

The 1v4 with Bowser is what's so disappointing, it's really not that good
Overall the whole experience is too short and not enough content (not enough minigames or chances to play minigames)

Honestly wanna take back what I said in a previous thread and say Undertale is the best game ever, but I'm worried that the newness of it is just clouding my feelings, because I really really loved Earthbound so much. I might just need to play Earthbound again. But I'm not so sure Earthbound made me feel so many different emotions so strongly. I can't really think of anything from any medium that made me feel this way.

Regardless, Undertale and Earthbound are my top 2 at least. Everything else I'd have to think kind of hard about. There's a lot of great games out there, but none of them really compare to those two.

I played KH1 originally when I was 13 and it had a deep impact on me. Before I had never really played a game like it, mostly because I didn't get a chance to play most games growing up. I really loved it. Looking back, it's not as great as I had thought it was then, but it was certainly a special experience for me. I still haven't gotten to play the others, though.

I think one of my fav parts of KH is when you turn into a little shadow heartless for a bit. It was silly and cute.

There's a cave you can enter and adventure in and fight mobs while mining and collecting various stuffs. There are many levels to the mine I'm in, I'm unaware if there are other cave systems but it seems substantial thus far. I haven't fought enemies outside of it yet though.

Yep, I am completely losing control of my life for this.

Shane's a pal, though :-)

I'm gonna be honest and say I haven't really been paying attention to the bois in this game, except Linus. And sadly you can't date the mountain man. Abigail is my gurl~

least fun games to watch for me are RTS's
Most fun are story games that I've already played, or one that I will never get to play because I don't have a console exclusive. (Like Until Dawn, that one was immensely fun to watch)

Zoraster your wife is hella cool

btw I just started playing the Phoenix Wright series for the first time in my life, just recently started the very first game and am gonna try to get through all of them. I don't wanna post in the official thread until I finish some of it because I'm afraid of accidentally getting spoiled so thought I'd bring it up here. Only finished the first 2 missions so far. It's pretty neat.

This is the most impressive ARPG I've ever seen and I hate that I might have to wait years to ever get the chance to play it.

It's a dating sim/visual novel. It's free on Steam. It's not too long of a game. I recommend going in blind - don't read the Steam reviews, or anything but the About section, really.

And for those of you that tuned out my post after I said "dating sim/visual novel", no, seriously, go play it anyway.

This game won't be getting out of my head for a while.
playing this now like 30 mins in and i really like pink haired girl :3
I hope nice things happen!
