Yeah, the rule Reck was talking about he misunderstood anyway. In post 15, PranaDevil wrote:

Totally different game.In post 13, Brandi wrote:But its completely different than the tabletop/board game version? :/ I would not play the tabletop version at all ><
If it doesn't count then he can feel free to ignore it.
Bloodbowl is an actual video game where as the rule is about games like DOMINION or SETTLERS OF CATAN online. Games that are essentially board games but put on the internet.-

Except it's an actual video game that can be played in real time, pretty sure you can't do that with a board game. It's classified as an RTS. (There is also a turn based mode)In post 18, mith wrote:My understanding (admittedly based on five minutes of google-fu) is that it is a rather faithful adaptation of the tabletop game, including a turn-based mode (in addition to the original real-time that got the developers sued). I'm inclined to say no, but I'm willing to be persuaded if someone wants to do a compare-contrast on them.

Chaos edition also includes a lot of features/races not playable in the board game.-

But dominion is a card game and any online play of it is still just a card game?
This isn't like you have a game board and move around pieces... it's 3D models that move on their own, have lines, animations... when your team gets better their "image" evolves to show how far they've come.
Board game pieces don't physically change when you play a game. They don't talk to you.
I really don't think this game falls anywhere in line with what your rule basis is.
I mean the entire point is that board games aren't real video games, right?
But this has enough elements to make it an actual video game, where one is significantly more appealing and playable than the other.
I mean with this mindset, "games" such as "The Walking Dead" should not be included either... since they are just interactive movies, not actual video games with any real gameplay. (I'm not saying I really believe that that you shouldn't actually include it, just that if point and click adventures have less gameplay than video game versions of a board game, why would they count?)
Again, it's a video game VERSION of a boardgame, not a boardgame copy pasted to the internet to play like it's a real game.
Also, I love this game for the single-player mode. I'm not sure if you can play "single-player" in the boardgame.
"The single-player experience allows the player to manage a team throughout an entire season of Blood Bowl, through the Old World of Warhammer. The team will evolve over the course of victories, experience gained and awards won. With its immense depth, the game can almost be considered as a management game, from managing the popularity and sponsorship of players to the purchase and sale of players, as well as their aging, retirement and even death."-internet reviewLast edited by Brandi on Tue Oct 08, 2013 1:01 pm, edited 1 time in total.-

Thanks for taking the time to work this out Mith~ <3
The single player campaignabsolutelydoes not exist in the board game.
League solo play is for the video game and the video game only. There is a League play in the board game but that is not single player.
I have looked it up extensively, Sudo can also confirm that it does not exist in boardgame form.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_Bowl
Ctrl+f "single" or "solo" for easy mode. Non-existent.
~(I've been looking up more info to compare but info on the board game is so SCARCE because every page directs me to information about the video game)~
Here is a .PDF of the "living rulebook", the last official rulebook for the tabletop version:
http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Cus ... lebook.pdf
There is clearly no option for solo play (I can't really think of a way it would work anyway)
Also worth noting that there are 3 less official playable races in the tabletop version than the video game version.
It's not much, but it does mean that the video game offers things you'll never get in the board game.
Also~ real time as a mode existing, even if it's not loved by the major playerbase should definitely be for consideration. (which you said you are considering)
And, I play a lot of board games and even tabletop games myself, I'm not hating on them in any form! It's just that the video game version of this is better! =b
Sorry if you've spent too much time looking into this, I'll admit I'm terrible at arguing a point and base things more on emotional experiences rather than logic... and have probably made this more difficult than it should be ._.
I also realize that AI exists in other video game versions of board games, such as AI opponents in the video game for monopoly. I feel like an entire solo campaign is different enough but if it's not I'll accept it.-

Im not voting for B/W simply because I hate 90% the pokemon designs in it.
The Music is good, N is a good character, definitely. But ultimately it's not really the defining factor for me. I also just enjoyed the region of D/P/P more.
Also you can get multiple masterballs all the way back to G/S/C, you just have to win the lottery! (Not arguing a point, just noting.)
Also in B2/W2 you can get 3 masterballs. (If you include winning the lottery)Last edited by Brandi on Thu Oct 17, 2013 4:29 pm, edited 1 time in total.-

It's probably easier in BW2 to win the lottery, or so I've heard. (I don't think this one is based on trainer IDs?)
The later the generations the more people seem to trade pokemon also so it's not so bad in B/W or in X/Y with wonder trade being a thing.-

r/b/y were objectively the worst pokemon games in terms of quality and entertainment value. The only reason to value them higher is purely due to nostalgia. In post 526, Untrod Tripod wrote:super mario world losing to a pokemon game that wasn't r/b/y
I hate generation V with a passion but I do realize it is a better and more enjoyable game.
Anyway Gen 2 was the most fun and it deserves a spot above the rest.Last edited by Brandi on Tue Nov 19, 2013 5:26 pm, edited 1 time in total.-

^I can't say I didn't see a response where objective was implied to be wrong, but this is stance that I believe to be a fact and therefore I stick by it. I feel there is more than enough evidence to support RBY being majorly inferior to later generations. I'd be willing to debate my position in the pokemon thread if desired as not to clutter this thread. Also I don't think RBY are bad- just inferior, just in case that wasn't clear.

I get you. When the games first came out, they definitely did have the originality value.
And well, maybe it was wrong of me to try and counter your sentiment.
This is afavoritevideo game topic after all. Nostalgia certainly holds up for that basis- but I just mean I can see why other pokemon games could be in a higher spot- for those that enjoyed and played the series past gen 1.
Most people I know of whose favorite pokemon games are the original R/B/Y did not play the later generations, but not because they wouldn't try them- more so because their interests had moved on to other genre's of games or fell out of gaming entirely.
If it's any consolation I would give anything else I've voted for to put Earthbound in a higher spot. That game has more meaning to me than the pokemon or Mario franchies could possibly ever live up to.-

By this logic, the most casual games are the best games, because everyone and their mother will always play them when they are bored. In post 615, Hiraki wrote:
And yet, people still play it today. In post 614, PranaDevil wrote:It's the same repetitive stuff over and over again with the only change being speed.
It's that formula that creates the game.
Tetris is nothing special, and I do not actually know anyone who plays it nor have I played it in over a decade nor would i choose to play it if I was bored. I'd rather play solitaire, Sudoku or minesweeper.
Tetris is like the cheap poptarts you bought at the grocery store in case you didn't feel like cooking. It lacks substance and isn't very enjoyable, but it's there.-

Hiraki~ I addressed your point with an analogy, I'm sorry if you didn't get it. Tetris is not a very good game, it is just a simple game that is easy to understand and not hard to find in many mediums.
At least it has something going for it. Though your terminology of "main game" feels rather obtuse. The problem that I find with Portal is that the main game is the only thing going for it.
Portal is game of the year material because it was one of the most original games of its time. The driving force is simple puzzles and GLaDoS' crude humor (not to say that these are bad things but I can't seem them being GOTY or greater worthy factors)
It's a first person puzzle game. Not only are the puzzles a reasonable level of challenging, the story was entertaining, incredibly humorous and the voice acting and music was top notch.
Just as well, Portal did a wonderful job of integrating story and gameplay together in a manner that blends them together perfectly.
It isn't just a game, it's an experience, one you wont quite get with any other game.
That said, Portal is far from any of my favorite games, it would not even make my top 10 list, but your argument as to why it's a lesser game than tetris are extremely convoluted.
Tetris is a well known and common time waster for some people, I don't personally find it fun but maybe some people do, I wont argue subjectivity like that. But just because you can play something over and over out of boredom does not mean that has replay "value".-

But it does get boring and old, I feel. But if you don't feel that way I can't change that by arguing about it.The point is that you can play the game again and that it won't be boring or get old.
I feel Portal is a 2 or 3 time play to get the full of it. However, I disagree with this definition and I don't think it's reasonable.how it can be a favorite game if it's really a one-time play and it's quite mediocre by definition.
I don't think a game is any worse due to how long it is. I feel that when it comes to certain genre's, such as... rogue-likes for instance, this would be a valid point to live up to. But games that have strong story elements where in beating the game draws a a singular conclusion, replay value shouldn't be a factor as to whether or not it's a good game.
I will double confirm that Portal is still not a favorite game of mine nor is it in my top 10, But I've played a lot of games and that would be hard to make.
I've never liked basic tetris and have never found it fun or worth my time in comparison to pretty much any other simplistic game of its nature.
But see, I realize that arguing something that is ultimately a subjective opinion isn't really worth all of these text walls. We can't agree on basic definitions on what makes a good game.-
