General Rules:

Of all the people we could s(t)eal rulesets from, we sealected Vi.

Pregame:

You will be given a Role PM. Confirm by sending back your alignment, please. Make sure you do not have any questions about your role before confirming.

Day:

The Day functions as normal. You may No Lynch if 50% of the players vote for No Lynch. You may lynch with a majority of the votes.

Twilight:

There is nothing special about Twilight in this game. If there was/were anything interesting in the space between Day and Night, it would be a Rarity.

Night:

Nights last for 48 hours. If you did not post in the 24 hours before the end of the previous Day, we will prod you to make sure you are in the game.

If you don't respond to the prod, we will replace you.

Illegalities:

As a reminder, you are not allowed to:
*talk about this game outside the thread except where expressly permitted
*impersonate the mods and/or use the mods' formatting (bolded italicized

*use cryptography, invisible text, or other ways of sending robustly hidden messages
*quote your Role PM, to include using specifics about its format or time stamp to your advantage
*edit/delete posts or speak after death sans "bah" posts as described below

The night before Christmas was a big sealebration around the oceans. In glorious Braseal, a midnight mass was getting assealmbled in each of fifty basealicas. In rural Sealth Carolina, tail warmers were hung up over fireplace mantles as they awaited Sealta Claus to come and leave tins of herrings inside. Not everyone sealebrated Christmas the same way, though. In Jerusealem, excitement over the sealson was mostly walreined in, though an unusual coating of snow left everyone mysealfied. North of there in what was once called Sealingrad, there was an joyous festivalrus of all life in the sea and on land; for in Sealviet Russia, Christmas sealebrates YOU.

penguin_alien here. In the interest of optimizing the town's night action choices and in light of the fact that as the counterwagon to Smudger I'm likely to be run up to claiming anyways if I live to D2, I'm taking advantage of the ability to broadcast to everyone tonight and claim preemptively. I'm a Seallager Mason, Sealturn. I emphatically don't request protection or any such aid. I'm currently coordinating in the Mason QT to discuss reads and how much else it's useful to reveal overnight.

In the previous game we modded, there was the little puppy Sixty. Late in the night, Sixty would gaze up at the vast expanse of the sky, and the sky would gaze down at the humble puppy on the earth, and they would gaze intently at each other.

Admittedly, Sixty was howling at the time, but never mind that.

It was a beautiful scene of life reaching out to the cosmos, a dog reaching into its most primal instincts to call to the shining watchers of the sky. After all, we are all made of star stuff. Sixty sang in doggie fashion of the bond that ties all of us together.

But everyone leaves sometime. Nothing is forever - not pain, not joy, not halcyon youth, not old age. Everything will eventually end, and nothing shall remain.

Sixty is gone. And now, so, too, are the stars.

In the rural state of Arkanseal, one citizen was gleefully wading back to her pond. She was walreturning with a Happy Seal (with toy!) and some sealgarettes, which would tide her over until the next day. She noticed a sealver dollar on the side of the road and decided to act on the laws of sealvage to claim it as hers.

Just as she got ready to slide down into her abode, three buff men suddenly jumped her, pinned her flippers and tail down, and clubbed her on the head while two other men held semiautomatic walrifles largely for effect and in case she had sealinforcements coming. Even though she had a consealed carry permit, she didn't have a chance to resist. She disappeared, and to this day people seal miss her.

It was a dark night in the rainy sealson...

Deep in the Pennsealvania woods, one could see light coming through the window of a forsealken shack. Whoever was walresiding here was doing so unsealn by the world at large. If you peeked through the window, you could see... an obese, walruscruffy form sealvoring a popsealcle (made from actual seal) as some sort of dessert after a rather raw meal of seal parmigiana. The walruffian was not particularly persealptive, being both enraptured in its seal meal and having the sealevision blasting music to drown out the rain ("Stuck in the Middle With You", by Sealer's Wheel), and was entirely sealprised when a flapping was heard against the door of the isealated cabin. The walrus hoped that the noisealness would end on its own, but... no, the walrapping continued.

So the walrus looked itself over and made sure it didn't look too unsealvory, braced itsealf, and opened the door to find...

"EXCUSE ME SIR OR MADAM BUT DO YOU HAVE A MOMENT FOR SEALSUS CHRIST?"

The walrus let out a mighty bellow and sealammed the door hard. Along the way it might have screamed "OH GOD" in a kind gesture of devoting a moment to Sealsus Christ.

After a few minutes to let its pulsealng heart settle, the reclusealve character tried to go back to walreclining and enjoying the blood of innosealnts again. And when more flapping began against the door, no moves were made to greet walrever it was. Which was a shame, because the flapping this time was from a bunch of seallagers with blowtorches.

Today in Walrushington, D.C, the leader of the free ocean received a frightening messealge from an unsealtan source. It appeared to be coming from beyond the asealroid belt...

"Greetings, earth dogs. I trust you are finding your little circus entertaining."

(from inside the White Cave) "Is this extraterreseal life at last?" "No, it's those damn Walruskies! They finally got us!"

Neither of these comms specialists-turned-diplomats heard a bizarre walrasping noise behind them as the messealge continued.

"I would like to inform you all(rus) that I have a nuclear misseal aimed directly upon your capitol as well as Sealdney, Brasealia, Osealka, and Barsealona. Sealth Africa will remain untouched, so I hope you like vuvuseala music."

"Phoque you!", one of the Americans impulsively bellowed. History would remember that his French was indeed pardoned.

The walracket continued in the background as an ocean-blue police box became visealble behind them.

"Your very sealvilization depends on me not doing this. Which I won't, if you meet my price of..."

"ONE SEALLION DOLLARS!"

The Americans almost started barking in laughter before realizing that they had no idea how many zeroes were in that number. One was about to ask Carl Sealgan's opinion, but before that could happen, a stranger with a British accsealnt stepped into what was supposed to be the most secure cave in America.

"Hello! I'm the doctah! ...rus."

The attending comms watchers were fell backward in shock. "What... What IS that on your..."

"Ah, now. Bow ties are

."

Taking the dumbfounded sealance that followed as a sign that the matter was walrusettled, the man whipped his sonic sealdriver out and waved it around for sealx seconds before clapping his flippers. "Ha! This sealgnal is coming from just east of Betelgeuse!"

The commanding offiseal didn't hesitate. A nuclear launch was immediately requested for... wherever that guy said. The offiseal didn't remember where exactly to aim, but didn't ask, because he thought he heard "Betelgeuse" and if that wound up getting said a third time things would just get overly sealy.

The "Doctah" squinted at a walruscreen as he saw the nuke completely miss the source of the transmission and traced its path out toward an outer planet. He turned and said "Well, nice to meet you! Tea time calls! ...It's a British thing, you... should try it..." and sealammed the door to his phone box.

The lynch mob sealflessly professed to be as uncultured, and that he was talking out his sea bass.

The lynch mob reassured him that they were walrevolutionaries.

"But you can't kill me! I'm on my fifth sealicide attempt!"

The lynch mob desealded that he was doing a very poor job of being desealsed.

"Oh, fine then. BE MY TRUSTY SEALD, PET OSEALOT!"

The lynch mob bribed the osealot with catfish.

And thus, over his vosealferous dissealproval, one of the most bizarre roles in the game bit the beach.

came in the infinite night of the soul. The Old One with the thousand faces. He took the form of a comet, coursing brightly through the sky like the glimmer in a madman's eyes, a promise of ill fate to all who beheld under the vast darkness. His presence went unnoticed by so many fools across so many continents, but a few saw. They knew. They understood what portent they witnessed, and knowing there was no way they could prepare themselves, they descended into a state of madness. Lost in their mortality, they began to speak in unknowable, terrible languages and turned their thoughts toward the most grisly murders mankind could imagine. They knew that this truth would kill them, and one by one they ceased to resist their most primal urges as they foretold their own demise at the hands of a Power far greater than they.

They were visited first by the great one. He took the form of a hideous leviathan, grotesquely shaped, a quavering and bloated mass of skin and fat that mocked the Creator's design. He lurched upon the shore of the northern coasts, where the fog is unlike any other place on this shrouded planet, and stared at his cult with black, soulless, twinkling eyes.

They recognized the sign of the comet. They did not run, did not tremble. They stood and attended the Old One as it devoured them all with its eyes, its unfathomably deep orbs with which it saw the profanation of hundreds of worlds more glorious than this one. He approached one of his followers... He gazed at this follower with his penetrating gaze, breathing upon him with a breath that smelled of the decay of six hundred years of age that melts one's skin to insignificant dust. In the face of the truth - the final, ultimate, terrible truth - of this world, his mind was finally separated from his body. HE watched as the man's head rolled back, his knees buckled, and he collapsed onto the sand of the beach. With what could only be described as a smirk, a horribly twisted smile unseen anywhere in Nature, the Old One opened his mouth, and swallowed its victim into a place that was neither eternal rest nor a respite from torment, making sounds that men were never intended to hear as the follower's body passed between his terrible fangs.

At this point, the group realized that they could, theoretically, overpower this monster if they had the votes to do so. They did... didn't they?

At this point, a man wearing a fashionable jacket with rings of ice around the sleeves stepped out from behind a dune. It turned out he had already shot one of the remaining Seallagers while they were reading that ponderous wall of text. As it turns out, he hit the bullet magnet.

And then he took a potshot. Business as usual.

A flurry of soldiers descended on the last of the Seallagers. "BLOBBIE DOWN!" they screamed.

...then they realized they had made an incredible mistake. They were arresting a true AMERICAN icon. How could they do this...?

The squad of elite soldiers looked over at the chief executive officer, who shot the fallen Seallager point-blank with an absurdly-powered rifle, but the bullet just bounced right off.

The squad of elite soldiers turned to look at the abomination of a thousand worlds and a million years, who kind of shuffled about and started very conspicuously looking for kryptonite.

Without many other options, they released the last Seallager into a bay. Specifically Guantanamo Bay.

The Canadians lobbied to get the prisoner transferred to their custody for fair treatment, but to no avail.

And so, the last of the Seallagers lived out the rest of their existence in a cell. No one would ever lay a flipper on his body, because he was irreplaceable - the warranty would be void if...

...oh, you know.

(Six-half) So. This game.

About the flavor - aside from puppies, seals are

also

an in-joke between the members of Sixty. Both of us got to see the Lisbon Zoo's live-animal shows, which were basically incredible, and we each walked out of the aquarium amphitheater's souvenir shop with commemorative plush seals - mine, Csaba, made cameo appearances in the production of this game.

Being the whimsealcal mods that we are, we decided to run this as a theme because why the seal not. I tried experimenting with some seal puns on Tierce, whose responses were along the lines of "Oh, god.

Whyyyy?

", at which time I knew this had to happen. Sadly, I think that (per usual, unless it's Maf.Maiden) my inspiration for the puns kind of fell along the wayside shortly into the game, which is why I'm very glad that people enjoyed the flavor enough to contribute their own. Really, that's the sort of player-side enjoyment that makes me sealtisfied with a game. (Good play? Positive outcomes? Pshaw.)

So... the setup...

It basically swung as hard as it could against Town from role distribution onward. Scum had a lot of power roles, but other than the Neighborizers, they were completely useless except against the Compulsive Vig. And how those Neighborizers were used! About 24 hours into Day 2, scum had compromised three of Town's four power roles, and lynched the fourth one that Day. The Neighborhoods, I think, played a huge part in Town's demise in this game (do you still think they're weak?).

I'm open to claims that the setup was scum-sided - scum DID have power roles in the Neighborizer and while the Town roles had standard power, they were a bit unwieldy between the MasonsNotCop, BulletproofNotDoctor, and compulsiVig - but this was still a winnable game on Day play. I think there's a lot to be learned from rereading this game, because the scum team's Day play in this game was hardly indefatigable.

Last, I'd like to mention that people seem to be pretty relaxed about replacing out these days.

Playing Mafia games is a commitment, and replacement is not in the spirit of the game.

Replacing out for casual reasons like what were given in this game is

not excusable

. In the spirit of this, players should not be requesting for others to replace out*.

So! With that said...

Thank you all for sticking with the game and/or replacing in! I hope we were able to provide you some enjoyment with our puns and 'shops while you engaged in your campaigns of social justice. I have two game ideas in the wings, Mafia Sylvia and Mafia Injustice, and both of them involve messing with the voting mechanics. Finally, back to mechanically-focused games! Here's hoping to seeing you around the site!

*Unless the player has established a trust-tell meta of replacing out as a given alignment, in which case there are bigger problems to sort out.

With all the images we had for votecounts, a lot that we didn't use, and some photoshops that did not make it in through the final setup design.
