Board Games!

This forum is specifically for discussing non-Mafia games
(board, card, video, we're not picky)

Playing
such games should happen in the Mish Mash forum, of course.

My girlfriend doesn't like it, and I haven't got around to playing it solo properly yet, but I enjoyed the single solo game I did play.

I don't really know a lot about the CCG model, to be fair. I mean obviously I get the ~gist~, I get the whole point of "You never know what you're gonna get", but meh I personally think expansions are a good way to add to a game (The Pandemic one was pretty great for me). I dunno, they definitely got more time though - your partner was fairly quiet, I thought whereas they worked better together and probably made a slightly stronger argument.

Trying to find Marvel: Legendary since I loved it so much at the reckoning but it's sold out in Ireland atm. Boo.

And it's made by the devil. Although knowing that the cards are made from the pulped flesh of the damned makes the price point a bit more palatable.

My wife and I played Firefly on Easter. Then we played it twice more. Crazy fun! I describe it as a mix between Arkham Horror and Empire Builder. You do have to accept that sometimes luck will punish you or favor you, and if you don't care for games like that this game is not for you.

I feel too young to comment on this thread but I really want to get into board games like these...except I think I missed out on the generation that had it here in Australia. I don't think there are many that go about and I don't think there would be any shops that sell them and even less people I know who would want to play them. ._.

I think this thread is pretty cool though. ^_^/

There's not such a thing, new games get made all the time, new favorites rise up. Missing out has more to do with the people you are with than with generations. Settlers made big waves in our family and for years it would get played whenever we met. Games like carcassonne or dominion never even found their entrance, even though you might describe them as decent accessible board games. Scumchat got me to play dominion online back when that was readily available. On the brit meet, I saw all kinds of strange games I had never played before and they were fun as well (I made an effort to introduce coup with some family members the weekend after!).

You don't miss out on stuff with this. All you need is people to play with. As for shops, you kind of have to run into them. I doubt there's a lot of profit to make on games, but there's always people who make their hobby into their job and run some small store in a non-prime location. Otherwise, the internet sells everything you could possibly need.
Surrender, imagine and of course wear something nice.

I don't know how old you are, but there are usually weeklyish board game groups. If you're old enough to do things on your own, you're probably old enough to try the groups.

If you're in Melbourne, for example, here are some meetup groups: http://www.meetup.com/find/?allMeetups= ... ter=mysugg , this one seems to be the biggest: http://www.meetup.com/Boardgames-group- ... egy-games/

Same goes, I'm sure, for other cities in Australia.

Board gamers are usually eager to teach people new games, so I wouldn't worry about that. You might try to start with some of the less complex ("gateway" is the term usually used) games.

This seems like the thread for it:

The Hanabi game that has made Faraday swear off ever playing Hanabi again--or talking to me.

Anybody played the new Legendary expansion yet? I've heard it's a rather good addition to the game, even though I've never been a huge Spider-Man fan.

Cooperative game with everyone possibly winning essentially is why I enjoy it.

Too general. Though I guess I'll probably have to try them all if I want to say anything. Couple that I've already tried are on there too.

EDIT: Maybe to say that I don't want any games with a traitor mechanic might be more helpful.
