Mechanics:


Some of you may have participated in a Haunted Mansion game before. Regardless of if you have or haven't, you should read these rules as they have been slightly modified from the classic variance.

Objective:

Their are two factions to this game; Humans and Demons/Non-humans. All of the Humans are alligned and share the same goal where as the Demons/Non-Humans are NOT guaranteed to have partners. Here are the win conditions for both teams (Anti-Human win conditions vary but here is are a few possibilities)-

Humans:
You win when all non-humans/Demons are destroyed and/or have fled the mansion.
Demons/Non-Humans:
You win when all humans are dead/ You win when you have converted yourself to the human side/ You win when you have found and taken possession of the
Artifact
.

Game Play:

Like all Haunted Mansion games, this game will be played with two phases equaling one round; the day phase and the night phase. The day phase will be used to move between rooms
or
do preliminary searches of the room you are in, and to talk with other players still alive. The night phase will be used to investigate rooms, preform actions, and/or attack other players.
Day Actions (Deadline of 48 hours)-


To further clarify what you can do during the day, here are your options:
  • 1)
    Move
    - You are allowed to move between rooms as much as you want until day ends. To move to a room, simply post

    Move to: [Room Name]

    2)
    Search
    - If you choose not to move from the room you are in, then you can instead opt to do a preliminary search. By choosing this action, you will search the room you are in for an generic items that may be out in the open. You will be given whatever items you find into you inventory to be used starting that night phase. To search, simply state in thread
    Search: [Room Name]
    in thread. Again, you can only search a room that you are in and haven't moved from since the start of the current day phase.
    3)
    Explore
    - Just like searching, this action can be taken to help a player learn more about the room they are in. When the day phase ends, the player will receive a private message giving greater details about the room. To explore, simply state in thread
    explore: [Room Name]
    in thread.
    5)
    Give
    - You have the option to give items that you possess to other players currently in the same room as you. Simply post in thread,
    Give: [Item] to [Player Name]

    5)
    Communication
    - You are allowed to communicate in the Game Thread during the day phase only.
    6)
    End Phase
    - You are allowed to vote to end the day phase
    immediately
    which will go into effect as soon as 3/4 majority is reached. To end the day, simply state in thread
    End Day Phase

Night Actions (Deadline of 48 hours)-

These actions get a little more complicated so I will divide this into sections. You are allowed to choose 1 action each night unless otherwise specified in your role PM. Simply message the Mod and state which action you wish to take.

~Investigation~

  • Searching
    - When searching, your objective is to find items inside of the room. By just stating,
    Search
    you will do a generic search and acquire any items that are obvious and easy to find such as a Shotgun on the wall or a hammer laying in the middle of a floor. However, if you are specific with your search such as
    Search: Desk
    , then you will be given a higher chance of finding items/clues that exist inside of that Desk (if any). There are benefits to both actions, it is just up to you to decide when to preform each.

    Exploring
    - By choosing to explore, you learn more details about the room you are in. This can be beneficial as there may be hidden objects in the room that are not in the initial description. There is no benefit to being specific in exploring or exploring multiple times unless the room is listed as
    Large
    .

    Examine
    - This action helps the player discover clues and secretes that may be hidden in the room. This action requires the player to be specific such as
    Examine: Book Shelf
    . By doing so you could potentially unlock a hidden room or find a hidden key. Be aware that this action very rarely gains you items! Only by searching can you gain items that you find.

~Actions~

  • Use
    - This action is very straight forward but the results will vary. Essentially you choose to use when you need to activate something. If you know that a candlestick is a hidden switch, then you can state
    Use: Candlestick Switch
    . This will cause the switch to activate (assuming there is one). If you were to just state
    Use: Candlestick
    , then the hidden switch will NOT be activated so make sure to specify your intentions when you use. If you want to add your intentions in the message then feel free.

    Take
    - This action is used to pick up items that you know are in the room without having to hassle with Searching. With this action, you are allowed to take multiple items so long as you know where they are and they are not being taken already. You may also use this action to take items from other players so long as you know what it is they have. You can not take items that the player is currently using such as an attacking players weapon. Examples:
    Take: Shovel and Pen
    or
    Take: Player A's Relic


    Note: Taking falls in line with looting. When a player is dead, you can take any/all items listed in the front page. To take any other items that may be in their inventory, you must search them first.

    Attack
    -
    Attacking a player take priority over all other actions!
    The only exception would be role related or observing (explained below). When attacking, you must specify which weapon you are using (if you have any) and which player you wish to target. Again, there may be role related exceptions. Players who are attacked, even if they don't take damage, can not preform investigative abilities. Other actions, such as using or taking objects still go into effect if the player is alive. Damage is calculated based off the damage of the weapon plus the strength of the character. There are abilities and armor items that can reduce damage taken. Example:
    Attack Player "B" with Flute of Epic Annihilation


    Observe
    - This action has two effects. 1.) After then night phase is over, you will be told every action that every other player in the same room as you took as well as their results (if possible). 2.) Any attacks or room effects deal 1 less damage to you. If you take no damage then you also ignore any side effects that might occur unless the attack specifically says to ignore Observations.
Give- Just like the day action, you have the ability to give a max of 3 items to a player in the same room as you. To perform this action, message me with the action
Give: [Item(s)] to [Player Name]
.

Action Priorities are determined by time message was sent unless an ability comes into play that says otherwise. Using the same object or attempting to take the same item means that whoever submitted their action first will succeed. For this reason,
it is important to send in a second action
so as you have an action to fall back on.[/area]


Players-


Every Player will be listed on the front page. Their damage taken, thirst level, player name, and any item that has been revealed will show there.

Every player will have their own unique Character Name, varying Health Caps, and Abilities. Players die anonymously if they die in a room alone. However, as soon as another player finds their body (enters the same room as them) the front page will be updated with their death. Items, weapons, and water can be taken from dead players so long as the items were already revealed in the OP. If not, then you must search the player first.


Haunted Mansion Effects


The real juice of the game revolves around the mechanics of the Mansion itself so lets get started!

1.)
Desert


Every player will require water to survive in this Mansion due to the heat of being in the Desert. All players start with 0 Thirst which will increase by
2 at the start of every day phase and by 1 at the start of every night phase.
Should your thirst reach 10, you will take 1 point of damage for each point of thirst that exceeds 10. This is cumulative so if your thirst is at 15 at the start of the day phase, then you will take 5 points of damage.

NOTE: WATER IS IMPORTANT!!!


In this game, water can be found throughout the mansion. Every player will start with a full canteen which holds 3 cups. Each cup of water that you drink will reduce your thirst by 1. There will also be other items that you can obtain to hold a higher amount of water.

2.) Items


There will be a wide variety of items in the mansion so here are the restrictions. There is no limit to the amount of items that you can carry. When using weapons, you must declare which weapon you are using and make sure you have the available hands to use it. If a weapon requires two hands but you only have 1 accessible, then you can not use that item. Some weapons will have more specific restrictions but a majority of weapons are able to be used by all players. Items remained hidden from the front page so long as you have not used them.

You can only hold as much water as can fill your canteen or other containers, as stated above.

3.) Clues


This game revolves around the secrets of each of your characters as well as the secrets of the Mansion. Humans want to unlock the secrets to better their chances of survival where as non-humans want to find clues so as to reach more powerful items/abilities. Work together to learn the Mysteries of the Mansion!

4.) Twists


There are pre-planned twists to the game so be prepared to have to adapt as the Game State changes!

The Story Begins!



A wasteland was a fitting place to find such an artifact. An angel of God descended from heaven, his attire shabby for a being so righteous. The stained brown cloak dragged upon the cracked ground; bits of it flayed and even burned. The night sky sent a cool wind to rustle the angel's hood and reveal the wearer's young face and crisp, baby blue eyes.

Nearby, a bronze box etched with circular carvings stood upon a stone pedestal. A dull hum and low glow emitted from the casing which was no bigger than a basketball. Calmly, the angel approached the makeshift shrine, his movements slow as if he was being cautious. Each step caused the box to glow a bit more as if excited at the newcomers presence. The humming also began to increase until the sound resembled the swarm of angry bees. Hesitantly, the angel rose his arm and reached for the box… inching closer and closer until…

An arch of bright blue electricity zipped out from the box and entangled itself onto the angel's arm who retracted in pain. His body gave a quick spasm causing him to fall to the ground, gripping his arm as if to shield it from further harm. A low hiss of a voice emitted from behind…

"At last… I found it."

The angel turned his head to see the outline of a disfigured man. His body was stretched into inhuman like proportions. His arms dangled loosely by his side, reaching all the way down to his calves. The misshapen hands clenched then released over and over as if eager to rip something to shreds. His wide smile literally stretched from ear to ear showing an abnormal amount of pointy grey teeth.

"Hyuk Hyuk!" The creature chuckled and giggled in excitement, it's body quivered as he began to step forward. The angel stood as best he could and faced the demonic being.

"What is here is not meant for you. Leave." He tried his best to be stern but his voice was weak and his body was trembling. The creature did stop, however, and looked down upon the angel as if just noticing him for the first time.

"Oh… well lookie lookie… it's Gabriel." The wicked smile grew even larger. "I have always wanted to meet the Messenger of God."

Another crazed laugh before the creature clasped both it's hands together and swung them like a mighty mace into the torso of Gabriel. The angel went soaring over the wastelands, landing a good 20 meters away. Such unnatural strength would have crushed a normal man… luckily Gabriel was no human. Still, the angel could do nothing beside sit in pain, his body crushed. Desperately, he grasped a small glass vial as another hideous laugh echoed over the desert.

The creature hovered over the box, it's eyes fascinated with the loud hum. Gabriel crushed the vial then unleashed a burst of white light at the pedestal. The creature leaped back as a precaution but then quickly regretted it's action as walls began to form around the altar. The walls grew and expanded, pillars formed and hallways stretched… towers, windows, doors, gardens, books, tables and chairs… all manner of objects began to craft their way into existence.

By the end of it… there was a wasteland… and there was a mansion.

Finding the altar would not be so easy anymore………..

Congratulations to all who have made it to the Pre-Game! I know it was tiresome waiting for so long but fear not, the story will unfold rapidly from here on out!!!

As mentioned, the mechanics have been updated and are open for discussion. If you have questions, this is the perfect stage of the game to ask. The playerlist has also been updated and as of this moment, you are allowed to post here.

The game is still under construction as rooms are being given their final touches. Once all rooms have been twisted to my liking, I will create a new "Game Thread" in which
you will post actions in only!
This thread will be used for communication between players and will remain open during the day phases.

Good luck to all you fine specimens and enjoy the game! Roles will be shipped out once all rooms have been completed!

All deadlines will be flexible for this game meaning that if everyone finishes their night actions early, the phase will end early. Plus deadlines will be extended/shortened based off the flow of the game.

Please note that the rules have had a slight addition!

If two players attempt to retrieve the same item or use the same object in a night phase, the one who submitted first will succeed unless an ability went into play that says otherwise. For this reason, please submit a back up action from now on!

Day 3 is being delayed until I can find a replacement. I will open it tomorrow regardless of if I find one or not, I just wanted to try to give the slot a chance to not miss a night phase.



EDIT: I am sending out results but again, day 3 is not unlocked yet! I am trying to get that replacement first!

You may reveal anything you learn about the game in this thread.

The only Mod quoting I don't want to happen is rules questions in which you could use my words to influence the game state. Basically, just quote things that are related to your in game actions.

I was starting to prepare night actions for Night 3 until I realized I was missing 5 of them. I will extend the deadline 24 hours because of Easter. In the future, please try to submit actions on time as I can't extend the deadline in normal circumstances.

The rules have been updated to reflect the following new action.

Give
- During the night or day phase, you may give a max of 3 items to a player currently in the same room as you. Look at the OP for more information.

Due to the amount of replacements and the approaching V/LA's, I have decided to add in a new rule! Yay!

If you fail to submit an action, it will be automatically assumed you decided to search.


This way, inactive slots will still gain the benefit of performing an action. I don't want people penalized just because they missed a deadline.

Day 5 begins! I will be trying out a 72 hour deadline for this day and night phase simply because people who have replaced out claim to not have the time. Plus I am still having to prod players during the night phase so perhaps the game is moving to quickly. This is just a test and I will change the deadlines again if I feel this doesn't help.


Reminders/Notes:
*72 hour deadline this phase!
*You can Examine ANYTHING, including other players.
*Taking is limited to 3 items at a time.
*Try to remember to submit a secondary action in case one of your actions is invalid.

I will resolve this before going to bed tonight but I didn't want to hold the game just because of a couple players.

I think I have found my preferred balance in deadlines which will now be changed to 72 hours for the day phase and 48 hours for the night phase. I hope this is acceptable for everyone.

Day 7 brings forth the following events!

*The Chemical Lab has been destroyed. Entering it is no longer possible.
*Zeenoth has returned to his slumber as this day has weakened his essence. A strange presence can be felt coming from him.
*Rain has appeared and with it, water. Staying in the following rooms will not increase your thirst so long as the rain remains. In addition, you will receive 1 cup of water per each container that you possess. This will be automatically included into your inventory.
(Well Room, Boathouse, Crypts)
*No skittering was heard last night.

You may drink water at any time. Just by being in a room with rain, you will be given 1 cup of water into your canteen automatically. I am already marking down who is getting water.


Also... Day phase is over I think?

Day phase will last another 30 hours or so roughly. I will end the phase late Saturday night around 10:00 P.M. Central. From there, we will continue on our normal 48/72 hour schedule.
