Haha, I considered it, but for like 15 euro I figured I might as well support the game.

I really like the look of Dead of Winter. Traitor mechanic + Secret goals + the crossroads thing seems neat. Also apparently Pandemic Legacy is coming? That interests me, since I still really like the original (with the uh, first expansion which makes it much more fun)

I haven't played with that variant, he seems a lot stronger than the Ambassador though, might be worth trying out.

Cosmic Encounter is perfect with the right group of people who love chaos. But with the wrong group it can get kind of dull when people just Negotiate constantly or over invite people to ally. Try to stick to 4-6 people to start, any more than that and the game gets weird where some people get too few turns (a side effect of new players inviting too many people to help), and 3 is a bit more boring? Still can be fun though.

What is the best version of Munchkin?

Never played it but I'm looking to buy it.

Edit: Question 2: I want to buy Shadow Hunters. Do I buy it on the main site for 40 bucks or from Amazon for 30? If I buy it from Amazon do I get the bonus 10 characters?

Has anyone played any of the Spiel des Jahres nominees this year (Camel Up, Concept, Splendor)? All three of them look interesting, though I think my group would go for Concept way before Camel Up and then way way before Splendor.
I forgot - I actually
have
played Concept. It was neat, but really needs the right people. I could see it winning, but meh.

A friend of mine raves about Splendor, and I'm eager to try it.

Being in the hobby a long time, having a gamer for a wife, and having good game groups around all contribute to being able to play MOAR GAMES. Having a baby detracts from it. Having baby out of town adds to it.

None of them. Don't get any of them. Munchkin is a shitty, shitty game.

The old version won't have the expansion pack built in, but I'm pretty sure the new version does. Like, I think the box on the new version actually says "NEW BONUS CHARACTERS" or something on it. The art is also different.

Very impressive! I have a gamer for a fiance and
used
to have a good game group... the hobby has taken a backseat to certain other financial priorities recently. I'll snap a pic of my collection at some point, which is pretty meager, but I'm impressed that we've done well having only been in the hobby for a couple years.

Surprisingly good as a family game. It's good for what it is, and is exactly what you expect out of it. :P

I like regular munchkin a lot, and also the Cthulu one has been pretty fun.

Yeah the roles seemed to be balanced primarily around cancelling each other out, so it adds a ton of time-consuming complexity for no gain. Plus IIRC a couple seemed very abusable. One of my game guys told me I was being too picky and that "not everybody's gonna try breaking the game," but I maintain that
someone
will, and in that game it'll ruin it for everybody.

I wouldn't say that Munchkin is that terrible, but it's not a game with much replayability. My group played it a lot when we first got it, and then put it away and never really was tempted to pick it up again.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

I have the original with 1 expansion and also munchkin fu. My friends have zombies, star, and super. Munchkin is hella addicting within my group. The game can get really long, but you can just set it so that you only need to hit like level 5 or something to win. There's flexibility within the game. I also don't think it's a game that should be played too seriously and competitively. Just have fun with it.

Heading to the board game store in about an hour! Pretty much open for any new game!

Any suggestions? Preferably for about 3-4 players!

How long of a game, what is your group like that you play with, what other types of games do you like, do you want a party game or a strategy game or etc etc

My gut reaction is to just yell SUBURBIA because it's cool but we need more info

It's mostly just with my coworkers. We have Hanabi, fluxx, resistance, and Tsuro in the office. I think we enjoy Tsuro the most.

We're probably best with a game that takes like 30-90min. Mostly bored on Thursday and our boss is gone for the week.

We've also enjoyed games like 7 Wonders, Carcassonne, and Betrayal at the House on the Hill!

I have no idea what Suburbia is!

It turns out Suburbia might actually be the game you're looking for. It would be my recommendation here. I would also give Indigo a try, as I think it does what Tsuro aims to do, but with more interesting decisions. Dominion is worth a try as well. I feel like there are a few more that would fit here, I'll ponder more on it.

If ever you want to play Hanabi online, let me know and I'll set you up. ;)
