So the original team is discontinuing Bukkit/CraftBukkit thanks to the new EULA... and Jeb is not amused, because Mojang bought the project two years ago and it wasn't really Warren's to discontinue. Dinnerbone has stated he'll be updating Bukkit to 1.8, so there's that.

mojang didn't buy the project, they just hired all of the developers essentially. so the people that make bukkit actually work at mojang.

Incorrect. They hired the developers
and
acquired Bukkit. It was part of the terms. You don't buy a project by simply hiring all developers involved in it.

After reading the news article, and all relavent links posted in its ten pages, you are correct, but before yesterday, nobody was aware mojang owned the project.

They weren't even publicly seen stating they were trying to aquire bukkit. Two years ago when the hirings happened, the only word put out (by both bukkit and mojang on their respective articles) was that mojang was pleased to hire the bukkit team as their staff. What MOST of us took this to mean, was that the bukkit coders were not mojang coders, working on the base game (like dinnerbone now is). We didn't think it meant that mojang was buying the bukkit brand.

And the reason none of us thought that, is they didn't buy the bukkit name code and brand from bukkit. They bought it from Curse. and the Curse deal was definitely not publicized, just the bukkit deal was.

Nobody knew that mojang actually owned bukkit, we all just thought the bukkit devs were mojang staff.

but that was an interesting read, and I'm curious to see where it goes from here. It also begs the question why bukkit wasn't given de-obfuscated code from mojang as it was created, to keep bukkit updated quicker if Mojang OWNED bukkit. Thats like saying Microsoft's marketing and budgeting divisions refuse to communicate on their projects.

Thanks Maru. Those are pretty neat.

For the Community Farms/pens, I will go with something more basic though. My thinking is they will be something that looks nice (while still being useful) but will mainly be used for getting things players haven't already acquired on their own. I'm not fooling myself into thinking they will be used for anything other than starter stock by players as I'm almost certain, every player is going to have their own personal farms/pens.

The Tree farms might actually see more use but there again, cut a tree(s) down, get enough saplings to replant them and have some extra to start your own farm, never come back sort of thing.

Not so, On the old server, the community farms were often used by those living in and around spawn. I'd say the majority of the server's food came from SpawnTown, SkyFarm, and in it's later-days, Honeyopolis. I honestly believe over 75% of the server relied on bread from spawntown's farms until we got that automated melon farm that izak made, then we used it for our food. Skyfarm fed UT and IUT and a few other people who preferred melons to bread, and then there were like one-two extremely outlying players who probably had their own food.

I haven't messed with 1.7 at all. Modded or Vanilla. I jumped straight from 1.6.4 Modded to 1.8 Vanilla. SO yeah, I'd be interested in seeing more screenies

On that subject, Oso --- it has come.

Changes from Vanilla 1.7 / Vanilla 1.8 are detailed there. Not much content was added between 1.6 / 1.7 other than an assortment of different biomes and flowers, as well as some changes to fishing.

Ok, so the snapshot that is running on ETL's Vanilla is 1.8 then (or at least more 1.8 than 1.7) I've seen most of those changes in the snapshot...cool.
