I have a similar feeling on it, quadz. Basically, I feel that...

A title should subtly or not-so-subtly reference an amusing incident, playstyle or characteristic that the entire community can understand.

If their avatar never changes, then it qualifies as a characteristic of the nominated person, which (so long as they continue not to change it, which they most likely will since they have not done so yet and have no reason to do so in the future ) the community can understand, and continue to understand, for years to come. (For instance, other than that one time where I made an avatar bet and we mutually lost, I have never changed my avatar from the Zorbak Grin, nor will I ever do so in the future.)

Butyeah, I'm not the title fairy, so it's Buttonmen's call, I guess.

Yes, it's spawned from an avatar, but it's not just an avatar. It's got a markable chain of discussion, one which is quite memorable and funny. I was following along as well, and was cracked up by it. (I totally didn't realize it was a cheezeburger; if I noticed it at all, I think I also thought it was a dragonball. ) It's clearly left an impact and is easily traceable.

The argument against avatar titles is that their avatar can change (more or less), but I'd argue this title has staying power for the incident even if there

was

an avatar change, and it's something which is in-line with a lot of titles on the site. Something which can potentially be self-explanatory, and even if not, can be clearly pointed out and explained in less than a paragraph.

For anyone who doesn't know her, ffery basically single handedly coined the buzzword "trajectory" as far as its use here to track the way reads change as time goes on, and what "direction" and "speed" reads change. This unique method of scum hunting has been adapted for use by many, yet she alone remains the master of the craft.

I would not take that title.

I am not opposed to the idea of a title that references verbosity. However, if I wanted to have verbosity as part of my title, I'd just re-activate Mastin because I have the "Unabridged" under it. Is verbosity a part of me, undeniably. Is it something I'm comfortable being titled on, no, not by itself. Heck, even "Unabridged" had more than one layer, referencing my writing.
Besides, the title joke proposed for me would stop being funny after a week or two, after which it'd just be obnoxious.

I think it should probably be a reference to the Mastin Manuals he's constantly writing,

Yes, I know. I brought it up as a point of emphasis on why I don't want it.

And as for the other titles--when I say "subtle", I also mean "has meaning to me" other than thinly-veiled-verbosity-title.

I consider titles to hold meaning and not be something trivial. So don't force one, least of all, one which has a focus on verbosity. And most of these titles feel forced. And focused on that verbosity. The problem as I see it is that people are going, "Hmm, let's give mastin2 a good title that involves his verbosity!" rather than "Hmm, let's give mastin2 a good title." Make sense?

Also, I realize it's generally heavily frowned upon to get involved with your own titling process, but this is mainly just to give an example of the difference between a forced trivial/short-term-joke title (most of what's been proposed) and something meaningful:

I would totally take a title along the lines of "Every word counts".
It references the verbosity, but also references the succinctness I so strongly advocate. Additionally, it references the insights I give, where everything I say holds meaning, so it's not leaving out my MD work. (Plus how I should be listened to in games. ) Is it the best title, no. Is it actually a suggestion, no. But it's the type of thing I'm talking about when I say a meaningful title that has multiple layers.

I read (and keep current) on every single game in coney island, theme park, road to rome, mayfair club, and new york. I keep up on about half of little italy and central park. I've read almost every post in mafia discussion. When a game ends, I'm already talking about the results before the players themselves are.

Good advice for a martial artist, but now that I think about it, I've applied it to a large majority of my life, mafia included.

My thought on Safe Behind My Walls--I have some hesitance about it, because it can send off the wrong impression. It can imply that I weaponize walling, a tactic that I despise doing as scum (because IT WORKS! >_<) and hate having done as town. It can imply that I use them as a defense mechanism, that they're a cushion for me to hide behind. (This might be the problem InflatablePie saw in it.) However...I'm not opposed to it, and that's because of this:

I do too, since it implies that Mastin has built this fortress for himself via his rhetorical approach to the game and, through it, he has assured himself a place of confidence and victory.

EDIT: I also really like that because they are -his- walls, their length may seem exceptionally high to outsiders, but they are built only as high as he deems necessary.

define me a lot. It's not obvious, its first meaning can send off the wrong impression, but if you get the actual meaning...you GET it. So, probably not the best title...but one which I am quite willing to accept.

(Though I do like the Scripsi, ergo sum title as well. My legacy largely IS my writing. It's a large part of who I am. Not just writing words. But the words inside the writing.

There are others I like, but again, they don't have support and I'm only commenting on the ones which have momentum.)

That's actually a tough question. But since you've asked...I always have a soft-spot for paperback writer. (Yes, I know the song it's from, and yes I know what it's mainly about. The title's grown on me over the years.) It might have originally been for excessively-long-windedness, but is surprisingly good.

I have a similar fondness for stylish, because it was one of the first times people acknowledged that I was trying to reform from the bad person I used to be into a respectable mafiascum citizen.

What Would Mastin Do (And ETL's revival of it) has gained new meaning as of the recent in-jokes I've been trading with people, so it's no longer an AP-specific in-joke.

I've thought about ":P" being my title myself. I loved manual maker. Stay a while and listen I also thought was brilliant. For a change might be a bit generic, but I liked it.

Then there's Safe Behind My Walls (as discussed) and scripsi, ergo sum.

If I had to pick a favorite of favorites, though, it'd probably be Tome of Knowledge. But again. All of these are my personal tastes in titles. Not what the community has suggested as a whole. I'm not going to shove a title that I want down your throats.

For what it's worth--I like The Second Coming as a title, and if Buttons decides to go that route, it's good, but Buttons contacted me about Safe Behind My Walls (and not The Second Coming), and I said that would be okay.

Title fairy noms come in waves. At times, the thread is calm, collecting sand because it's a sunny day, with nothing to think about, and a relaxing environment.

And then, at other times, a raging storm of posting, which keeps on beating and beating at the shoreline, in a hurricane of posting that never seems to cease.

And I'm perfectly okay with this. Forcing us to suggest titles for users in general sounds like an Even Worse Bad Idea than "Hey, *user* deserves a title, let's brainstorm" is*.

*The idea's sound in theory. In practice, it only works out a small fraction of the time. Good titles mostly come naturally, not when thinking about titles.

Indeed it is. He doesn't ALWAYS double-post, but the times he single-posts are made up by the times he sometimes triple-posts or more. His iso would quite literally end up being nearly half its end length if all his double-posting was removed. (And, yes, while most scummers double-post occasionally and some are worse offenders than most...nobody, and I mean, NOBODY, does it nearly as often and consistently as Nero Cain does.)
