there are few games where the fun is determined by the people you're playing with more than Cosmic.

Mafia
,
Resistance,
and
City of Horrors
being three of them. Or
Diplomacy
and
Game of Thrones
.

Negotiation/social deception games by their nature rely on having a good group of people. More solitary, strategic games let you get joy out of the pure strategy, outside the social aspect.

What type of people do you need though? Because our group is fairly close, like close enough to be able to lie and backstab and get over it, if that makes sense. But they don't like to socially strategize. :/

Cosmic Encounters
is heavily reliant on negotiating with other players, and getting them to help you. The entire game is virtually all social negotiation. There's even a "Negotiate" card where if both people play one they have 1 minute to cut a deal (cards, powers, whatever). If you want to play your own game and not talk to other people, this is not the game for you.

I mean that and the wild powers the aliens have are basically most of the game (and how much fun 20 UFOs are... and how great the cards are... and there's like 6 expansions... it's just pure fun)

Chink Weh Ter Reh

Italian is nice because the pronunciation basically is the same no matter what. The confusing thing to English speakers is that Ch is basically the opposite of english (in other words, it makes the C sound hard rather than soft).

Okay mafiascum, 15-dot (136 count) domino set. Besides
mexican train
and
chicken claw
, what other games are worth learning with that large a set? Assume I can have up to 10 players.

Of my new purchases we gave
Memoir 44
a go, and man it takes a LOT of setup but is a fun game. Looks like it'll take us a few games to kind of learn what is a good idea and what isn't (beat my mate twice in a row).

Also played
Android: Netrunner
and I'm hooked. If anyone ever wants to play this at all on OCTGN let me know. Still learning so I'll need someone with a little patience :) Speaking of patience, this game is really fucking hard to learn for the first time. I still don't have it, but man it took us two games just to think we had a playable understanding. I love T/LCGs but I just wish the people who played them weren't so...smelly? For the most part anyway.

Awesome fun games. Also had some non-gamers play
Pandemic
with us and TBH with 4 people and 4 Epidemic cards...it was a little easy. Really easy actually.

4 epidemic cards is just like super novice level though, right? It's supposed to be p easy.

I dunno. Considering there are only 6, that seems like a weird scale. That there are 4 which is super novice, and 6 would have to be super hard right?

Yeah. But 2 extra epidemic cards is quite a lot. I'm pretty sure it only recommends 4 for your first game?

And 6 is more like hard mode with 5 being the regular game. Even one extra makes a big difference ime.

Also some of the roles are stronger than others; so that's something to consider.

Yes - 5 epidemics in the game is an average game. (really, you increased the rate of infection by 25%!) It's difficult, but not overly so, you'll win some and lose some.

I have yet to win with 6 epidemics. They come
fast

OTOH 6 Epidemics isn't that tough really.

The key to Pandemic, and what makes it a less-than-great game IMHO is that chasing cubes is such an enormous waste of time. Everyone assumes the Medic is the strongest role at first, but the Medic is actually quite mediocre. The strongest role in the game is the Researcher. It's basically risk-mitigation, with you assuming exactly how little effort you have to do to stop a region from having more than one or two outbreaks, then playing race for the cure.

I hear In the Lab makes the cubes relevant again, so I'd like to pick it up.

I would say that the Medic is great, but only because it minimizes the number of actions you need to spend on cubes. Generally, you don't want to spend more than the minimum number of actions clearing cubes, an ita only worthwhile on places.with three cubes already. So being able to reset a place can make it irrelevant for a large chunk of the game, saving you actions for the rest.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.
