the micro queue emphasizing flexible deadlines by adding an optional "deadline rules" field to the sign-up form for mods would be nice

In post 469, Cabd wrote:Something mafiascum could do that would be pretty sweet is to make little "mafia theory flashcards" of sorts with basic tips and tricks for play as each role, as well as a card explaining NAR and stuff, then have them printable for free on our website. Have the ms logo and URL on them, take them to board game clubs etc, as well as anywhere that plays offline mafia.

Open Setups on flashcards might be a good idea, I'd actually use that.

It kind of makes more sense that werewolf is the more understood and accepted vernacular. For one thing, it makes more sense on a logical level. Werewolves kill people at night... that's just what they do. Whereas when people thing of the Mob, there are so many things that you could associate with that. Killing, yeah, but not necessarily killing for its own sake, you know? For another, what little pop culture surrounds this game is much heavier on the werewolf side from what I've seen. I've heard it bounced around before (I never saw the film personally), but doesn't Cry_Wolf's plot revolve around a game of Werewolf? And that was a Hollywood picture with a marketing budget and all that entails. I mean, as I recall, it certainly wasn't a blockbuster, but it was released to theaters worldwide nonetheless. I'm sure there are numerous other cultural examples, but I'd be willing to bet the split between the two (Mafia vs Werewolf) would be at least 80/20 in favor of Werewolf. I think that's a conservative guess, too.

I prefer mafsilver to mafblack. I have mentioned this to chamber before, but there is one additional item i want to add.

Black bolded vs black unbolded is easy for me to pick up in the silver theme. Thus it is easy for me to count votes in that theme. White bolded vs white unbolded is hard for me to see even with the black background of mafblack. So I can't count votes in the game I am modding unless I log in to force a theme change.

Now I can see votes made with the vote tool like this VOTE: PokerFace it is only votes made like this:
Vote: PokerFace
that I can't easily see. My eyes may not be the best but I am not color blind and have 20/20 vision last I saw a doctor, so I can't be the only one with this problem. Anyone else having trouble similar to what I just described?

I think we'll be enforcing the use of vote tags over bolding soon anyway. Don't fret too much.

that is totally a reason we shouldn't have large scale improvements.

I don't think I've ever actually used the vote tag. I know it's better than bolding, but I didn't learn how to vote that way so I'm just old and stuck I guess...

I also wouldn't qualify enforcing vote tags over bold voting as large scale improvement. I would hate to be forced to enforce that as a mod because I think I would be stepping into the game way too often to correct votes. I prefer to qualify votes my own way.

It will be part of other changes. (and if you look through my past games you'll see I exclusively bold too).

I guess my point is why should that be dictated by administration rather than by game mods?

I get that it offers advantages, but I don't find them to be significant enough to want to bother to step in for the many times that people will vote some other way that is otherwise perfectly acceptable.

My guess is that chamber is working on implementing an automatic votecounter into the site so we as mods can take advantage of it? Probably one of those, if you use the automatic vote counter it's being coded to read the VOTE: tag? However, if you want to continue to format your own vote counts you don't have to enforce it? Completely spitballing here.

Automated vote processing and vote counts would require it (or at least make my life way easier) and standardizing across the whole site has more benefits than allowing some mods to not use the feature.

I don't actually have the authority to dictate site policy, but if I have my way, thats how things will be in for all future games in a few weeks.

Vote tags are much harder to miss than bolds and ergo I throw my support behind them.

I have a hard time accepting that standardization is necessary given that the site has run mafia games just fine for over a decade without automation.

It's a tool, and if mods find it beneficial that's great. But requiring it over other methods that work and other mods might be more comfortable with doesn't make sense to me.

I have a hard time accepting that democracy is necessary given that humanity has survived just fine for centuries without common basic rights.

tl;dr your argument is an argument against progress by virtue of a conservative mindset and doesn't actually hold any merit.
