It allows you to play spells with the yellow lightning bolt. You can only use it to quickcast a spell once a turn. You can do that:

- During the 1st quickcast phase (before any creature activates)
- Before or after any of your creatures' turns during combat
- During 2nd quickcast phase (after every creature is done)

If you choose to use it at any of those points, you turn the marker face down.

For instance, enchantments have quickcast, you can see the result of an enemy action, and then quickcast an enchantment if your creature survives. You can also quickcast an attack booster before your creature attacks.

EX:

1) My Archer attacks your creature with three health remaining. I roll 3 dice, and manage to do 2 damage. To prevent it from activating, I use my quickcast and quickcast Hurl Rock to let me kill the creature before it activates.
2) I quickcast Deflection Bracers during the 1st quickcast phase before any creatures have activated.
3) Prior to attack, I quickcast Bear Strength, and then flip it. My creature attacks for massive damage!
4) At the end of the round, I quickcast Battle Forge. Now it's available next round.

Why are there two spells?

You may also cast with the mage's action during the mage's activation. So your beastmaster can both quickcast and quick/fullcast. Creatures may ONLY be fullcast (hourglass icon)

AHHH, okay. So the mage gets 2 actions, basically, while every other summoned creature gets 1.

Which becomes important, because you might equip your mage with a sword and use his action to attack, and then use your quickcast to cast a spell.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

But you couldn't attack + summon in the same turn since creatures are full turn?

Right, though I think the beastmaster can quicksummon creatures as his special.

Yeah, it's worth noting that Mage Wars has the same golden rule that Magic does.

90-120 minutes is about right, though we've had a few ridiculously short 30 minute games in both directions. You have to go into it acknowledging that sometimes it will bbe super easy, sometimes super hard, but always tongue-in-cheek hilarious.

Played
Spyfall
via an online client with some of the Commonwealth the other night and really enjoyed it a lot, although I somewhat fear the RL version as I'm struggling to picture how you make a list of possible locations browsable for the spy without everyone noticing, because you really do need to be constantly considering it. Can you shed some light, Faraday?

Tried
Quantum
for the first time on Monday and enjoyed it well enough for a fairly breezy game with a fun (if flimsy) theme and a mix of light strategy and luck. Wouldn't buy it, but would happily recommend to play.

Also want to mention how awesome
Star Realms
is if I haven't already. Tiny and cheap deckbuilder, very much like Ascension but a little quicker to the point. Great iOS app, too.

We didn't find that much of a problem. Non spy's tended to glance at the list when asking questions to make sure they weren't narrowing it down too much. Also after a couple of games I had it p much memorised.

Little player aids in front of people might work of you were worried. Being spy in your first game would be tougg.though, no denying that.

I have had a severe lacking of board games in my life lately.

Are there any good online, in-browser board games or card games that are half decent to play with like 2-4 people?

sheriff of nottingham is great and definitely good with four and probably 3 people (2 might be good or might be shrugs)

suburbia & galaxy trucker are both great for 2-4 too, galaxy trucker you need to be okay with everyone getting blown up and comically limping to the finish sometimes though.

oh actually you probably want it in-browser more than them 2-4 players given phrasing

uhhhh dominion's online and I think is a little dated when I think Trains is basically the same game but with the board making the competitive element better imo (but dominion is still a pretty solid game)

Hanabi. :shifty: (Let me know if you want access to a Hanabi site.)

Boardgamearena has Seasons, Hanabi, Through the Ages, and Race for the Galaxy. I can recommend all but the last one, and a lot of people like the last one.

Goko has Dominion, which has steadily improved to quite playable.

I'll never say no to more board game suggestions! I actually have a copy of Suburbia and it's kinda awesome. I just moved to a new city a bit back, so getting a new board game crew has been slightly difficult, and I haven't gotten to play it much. But when I did, we'd play it like all damn day.

I've only heard great things about Galaxy Trucker and I was considering picking up a copy but it was kinda stupidly expensive at the only store in town that had it. I have not heard of Sheriff of Nottingham! From the BGG description I really want to play it now :/ Thanks :p

We've been playing a lot of Dominion online lately on the official site, ended up getting all the expansions for about 40 bucks I think. I thought it was kind of a rip off but really it gets enough use that I'm pretty happy with it. It's actually a really decent interface too.

I'll have to check out Trains tonight!

Yeah, BGA is where me/GreyICE/some others played Seasons and I think Spyrium.

There's also BrettspielWelt and it has stuff like Agricola, Power Grid, and a few others.

BGA also has Takenoko and Tokaido, both games that I recommend.
