If anyone's rolling a Necro or Guardian for the beta, report back here with results? I won't make this BWE sadly. :(

I take it this thread can also be GW2 General so we don't clutter the vidya thread?

So esurio and I just got GW2, joined on Gates of Madness and rolled Sylvari (Guardian and Necro). I've been hyped for almost 3 years and this game is as good as I'd hoped so far.

InflatablePie.1893 is my username-thing, I don't remember esu's offhand.

I have three characters all around ~12ish, doing solely PvE to level.

Sylvari Guardian - pretty fun, I prefer Mace/Focus, Hammer or Greatsword personally. My "leveling with esurio" toon.
Asura Thief - dual daggers because nothing else is
that
fun.
Norn Engineer - second-favorite character, not sure if I like pistol/shield or rifle more.

Not really a big fan of Thief after pouring some levels in, but it's okay. Might either stick to just my Engi or try out a Necro/Mesmer (heard Necros are kinda weak in PvE but they were my main GW1 class =/) in addition to playing Guardian whenever esurio has time.

I got a Lv80 Exotic from some chests from killing a World Boss. :O

I mean I'm only Lv25 (Sylvari Guardian) to Lv32 (Norn Engi) and I don't have anyone that can use a longbow (Ranger and Warrior? unless Guardian/Ele/Thief get access in HoT) but still!

Also I bought the Watchwork Mining Pick and an extra bank tab. I've made anywhere from 1-3 gold each day from selling the random sprockets and the extra bank tab helps so much. I do need at least one or two 18-20 slot bags on at least one of my characters though. Or I could park all my Cooking stuff on an alt but that's lots of effort to move over.

roses are red

I am a good Thief

I haven't actually touched my Thief in a while - currently have a Lv32 Guardian, 40 Engi, and 16ish Warrior. Warrior's fun, but it feels... squishier than it should be.

Eventually I'll try a light armor class - Necro was my GW1 favorite, but Mesmer seems fun. Not a fan of true mage types, so probably not touching Ele for a while. I should probably not have too many alts though. >_>

So I hit 80 on my Sylvari Guardian. Woo-hoo!

I bought some stuff for getting my armorsmithing from 225 to 400 since I had ~28g and wasn't using any of it, then realized in my tired delirium that I had been looking up things for Weaponsmithing. So I bought 175 -> 225 materials for Weaponsmithing, maxed that, then maxed Armorsmithing for good measure. Well, max is 500, but 400's good enough for me for now. I was a little over 70 when I started and hit 80 after all that.

I also fought Tequatl for the first time today. When I realized, after getting to the area and seeing that mountain in the distance, that Tequatl was the dragon they showed in one of the FIRST trailers three years ago, I had a huge HOLY SHIT moment. I was hyped for this game for the months leading up to release, and finally getting to actually experience the gameplay that got me interested in the game way back when after waiting so long to play it at all was amazing.

Anyway, once I map-complete Sparkfly Fen, I guess I'll just keep moving on to the later zones. I've put off personal story for a bit, and I still haven't completed any of the 15-25ish level zones, but I want to unlock more 70-80ish areas first. Guess map completion is the first big thing I'm going for. I have so much stuff I want to do that I'm not even close to trying PvP/dungeons (played AC, that's it)/WvWvW/etc... And I definitely have my eye on crafting Sunrise eventually.

Extras:
- PvP Rank Bonus (not too important)
- Influence Bonus (you already get a 4k boost iirc, this adds another 1k)
- 14 day Golem Banker (on each new character you create, kinda convenient I guess but traveling to places with banks/crafting areas isn't too difficult)
- Elite Skill (can't use it til Lv31, and it's not an amazing elite from the looks of it)
- Mini Rytlock Brimstone (meh)

110% worth $10 (I've spent more than the retail $40 on the game including when I got it for $10). I'd rather throw $5 towards a gem purchase, but I wouldn't fault anyone if they wanted to spend an extra $5.

(Friendly reminder we're on Gate of Madness.)

the visual aid helps, I was confused the first time I read everything.

ALSO more stuff

- Personal Story fixes/changes 'at least 8 weeks' after the March 31st announcement
- Elite Specialization reveals start next week (first reveal is not Druid (Ranger-Staff); Elementalist spec is called Tempest)
- they should go up every week and HoT releases shortly thereafter

so I'm guessing there'll be a major update patch (trait overhaul, Personal Story, etc.) at around June-July, with HoT release about a month later? gives them time to fix stuff from the update, and I think WoW did similar things near expansion time.

other random stuff include burning (and poison?) stacking probable (Guardians and Flamethrower Engis rejoice) and engi hobosacks removed

I might've bought HoT+PoF deluxe after I started playing again last Wednesday. Have a Human Thief at 67 and I'm trying to figure out what exactly I was doing before I quit now that I have a handle on things now. Dunno if I want to run HoT content with my Thief once I ding 80, or try out my Guardian again.

Luckily I had some extra dyes in my bank I that have risen in value so now I have like 300g to gear up my characters and whatnot (plus tons of karma, laurels, etc.). I also bought some character slots with the Deluxe gems since they were 30% off (have 12 total) so I'll be able to level one of every class eventually. Still dunno what classes I wanna use my two Lv80 boosts for, but apparently you skip the level rewards but get a set of Exotics with Soldier's stats (for most classes - Thieves get Valkyrie, Necros get Rabid).

oh, and the new elite specs look cool. I might find some time tomorrow to try them out in PvP, but I kinda wanna spend the time with my current characters tbh.
