Oh, neat, there're some other Bronze people. I don't have to be embarrassed about doing my Season 2 placement matches.

Speaking of that -- this is a little superficial, but would anyone be OK with doing my 2v2 matches with me to help me get Hot Shot? A paralyzing sense of imperfection is going to haunt me until I get it... :(

I wish I knew what was up with the algorithm...

Maybe it has something to do with overall score? I have most of the campaign achievements, so my score's artificially inflated.

I have nydus + psi disruptor. D:

Oh well. I'm going to play through again to get the Welcome To The Jungle Hard achievement, anyway, since I did that one early on and without upgrades because I wanted to get all the tech achievements this time through, so I can always change it next time.

It's easy if you recognize a few key points:

1. The upgrades cycle through all the possibilities when they appear. If it gives you something suboptimal, you can wait and let it change.
2. Drones effectively give you extra "life" on top of the added offense. Always max drones if they aren't already maxed.
3. Bombs grant short-term invulnerability. Use if you're on the verge of death. You can also use it if a free bomb appears, since you'll have free reign to grab it to replace what you used.
4. Plasma is better than side missiles for bosses, and not much worse for other stuff when you have 2 drones doing side-damage, anyway.
5. You can also use WASD to move around.

Knowing this, you can prioritize upgrades by going dronex2 (the black one) -> plasmax2 (the one after that) -> bombs (the blue one) to infinity, and then just replenish drones as necessary. You have to screw up 3 consecutive times to lose a life, so you'll easily get extra lives well before you lose them.

I got the final achievement when I beat the 3rd Terratron in Level 9. Finally died on Level 11, but I wasn't really as focused anymore. ^^~

Next order of business is In Utter Darkness on Brutal with the research upgrade. O_o

I may finally give in and get the research afterwards on Normal...just two DT walls was enough of a pain to manage on Hard.

Gammagooey wrote:It took me a while but I eventually beat that on Brutal with a fairly mixed army (decent number of carriers+void rays+ dark templars, stalkers, and about 6 colossi) and tons of photon cannons, when the nydus things appear make sure you target them down first, they'll absolutely maim any photon cannon defenses with never-ending broodlings if you don't.

And my laptop is finally back up and running so STARCRAFT TONIGHT.

I did it on the first try with pretty much just a DT wall and phoenixes to snipe overseers. I had to load once when the enemy brought in 3 overseers from one side and one from the other simultaneously, but that's all. I replayed it on Casual after that to pick up the research and actually scored less well. O.o

I think photon cannons might actually be counter-productive in this stage. I think the enemy may send more zerglings if you take too long to finish a wave, and the DTs are perfectly capable to kill anything provided you wall off and overseers die.

I hadn't tried yet when I posted that. Yeah, I got it on my second try (had to load once because Kerrigan Psi-Storm'd all of my Banshees).

Now I have to play the REAL game, though, and my computer is too iffy to do that very well :(

I guess I could stall by playing Aiur Chef or whatever.

GOOD LUCK.

Planetary fortress is actually the way to go IMO. You can easily block off the left side with 2 of them and some SCVs. The right's a little funkier, but the AI mostly stands and tries to kill the thing, so it doesn't matter.

What changed about the set-up over the past several months to make P imba rather than T? While I've noticed everyone saying as much, when I used to play, everyone complained about MMM being the unbalanced, attack-move strat. P was seen as "rush to Colossus in time to stop MMM." Z was seen as gimp at low levels s/p Spawn Larvae.

It could just be that he wants to lose strategically so that he can stay in Bronze and achieve the fastest possible wins/time ratio because he wants the Dark Voice avatar.

Against anything Hard AI or below, I think you can just defend->attack-move counter-attack and win every time. Or you can do standard cheese (proxy barracks/6 pool/cannons) and win every time.

I wish I had youtube here so I could see the modern way to beat Insane with the various races (post-AI changes). That way I could convince myself to go Random Custom or Random Insane Co-Op instead of polluting league games with my filth.

Oh, I wasn't talking about you. I was responding to the back-and-forth re: cheese keeps you in Bronze only if you do the cheese poorly/slightly more elaborate fail-proof-y strategies recommended.

My counterpoint was that the extra effort required for such strategies defeats the purpose of grinding achievements (because they take more time to execute).

I go back and play the campaign every few years. Never got into the competitive side.

The legacy SC1 SC2 projects are really great, though, so it'll soon be deprecated.

I can run it on Windows 7 without any problems using ChaosLauncher.

Anyone want to mindlessly grind Insane AI with me? I'm out of easy achievements to grind unless I wanna Random league, which, contrary to my prior claims, is a little low for me so far.

That, or figure out Left 2 Die. DRK and I couldn't manage Hard, though we (or at least I) didn't see the other ledge... ^^;

I never quite put 2-and-2 together re: starting with PF. That would indeed make it extremely easy.

All the fancy mobs messed us up on Hard. We lost most everything when the first Stank came, and then had almost nothing for the 2nd one.

We were too addicted to fancy bunkers and fancy reactors to get reapers. They were imba in the WoL scenario, though.

Only concern was that i think all the fancy units are armored.

Yeah, the entire internet is annoyed at the dumb, retconned love story. They do lampshade this near the end of the game from what I understand, though, which made me feel a little better about it. And we also get a neat twist involving Raynor from what I understand.

The only plot-related thing that annoyed me was
Spoiler:
the death of Narud. Big anti-climax, since Duran was one of my favorite Brood War characters. I was over-the-moon about Alexei showing up, though. But there's probably still space for them to full a fast one in Legacy of the Void.

Oh, I didn't mean that twist. That one was obvious from the beginning.

I was talking about how
Spoiler:
reawakening Kerrigan rebirthed Amon

Duran can create copies/aspects of himself, which is what Emil was, and Duran himself is the servant of Amon.

You can also download the fan-made Starcraft Classic legacy missions, if you're a player who goes back and plays the original SC campaign regularly. It's done very well.

I have the original Starcraft, too, but the SC2-version of it is worth playing through if you're a fan. Team Liquid did a good job.

Finished the campaign today. The ending is similar to the leaked version from 2010, but not terrible. I was pretty OK with it.

I would have LIKED to have gotten a post-credits scene with the villains and maybe a Protoss scene to lead-into LotV, but meh.

It was easy, but I liked all the scripted elements. They just needed moar power for the enemy. Respawning heroes would be a good start.

I wish they'd kept the Zerg relatively wormy/insect-y. The primal zerg in particular look too mammalian.

Kerrigan did have a little bit of hesitation early on, but it went away after
she thought that Raynor had died.

Yeah, I agree. The whole love story subplot that became the mainplot is dumb. I personally ship Kerrigan X Stukov.

BUT it's not true that nothing happens to change Kerrigan's attitude. Her attitude change is linked to a very specific event.

What's the mafia map called? That sounds fun. I looked for it once, but couldn't find it.

I know there's one that's murder in the dark-based, but I didn't understand it back in 2011.

I played the SC2 mafia map last night. The culture is a bit trollish, and the guy who made the map is apparently kind of a shady guy, but the map is made very well.

I always mass mutas against AI. The AI isn't very good at balancing attacking and responding to harassment.

I just need a partner who can repel the first wave, and it can beat anything up to Very Hard.

There's no Spawn Larvae in the Zerg campaign, which makes them extremely easy to play even before you factor in Kerrigan. You can basically mass hydras and attack + move to beat every map, plus adding macro hatcheries and zergings to use excess minerals if you're playing on a harder difficulty.

@ Maestro -- There are also "Mastery Achievements" that aren't listed upon mission completion for some reason that require Hard/Brutal.

It's not a secret achievement -- they're all listed if you choose achievements -> Swarm achievements -> Mastery achievements.

Kerrigan achievements are also beyond the "3 per mission" ones.

detection is needed to attack them.

This is confusing as they aren't that way in the campaign. There you don't need detection, but you do in multiplayer.

I think you have to spend an adaptation/evolution to make them invulnerable without detection?

And that's before you get to cheese like raptors + zergling reconstitution.

I'm so bad at ZvT 1v1. So bad.

I mean all I can do is expand and expand and expand and maybe scare him away from my expansions from time to time. Meanwhile he does MMM and I die, even if I've limited him to his natural.

I think the way around this is supposed to be fungal growth + banes, soooo maybe I just need to do that and quit whining.

Welp, I worked in Infestors and the Terran became trivial. I had expansions at half of the map, he turtled while I was at 200/200 with 40 larvae and 4000 minerals. 8 infestors could basically NP fungal growth him into Oblivion. I worked in mutas toward the end.

I just wanted some antiair, and I had enough bank to get them to critical mass, and the enemy was heavy in anti-ground since I'd just used lings and Infestors most of the game.

Post your Starcraft name and ID so that I can add it to the OP.

Your name should be obvious to you. Your ID can be found by clicking on "Add Friend" and then "Add Character Friend" and providing the 3/4-digit character code number.

Yeah, spawns were part of the original Starcraft game, too. I'm happy to see they were added back in at some point.

It looks like the spawns are enhanced for a limited time. :]

Yeah, they basically let you play unlimited multiplayer provided that you played with the friend you spawned from IIRC.

When I used to play this years ago, I actually found Bronze more challenging than Silver, because Bronze had a very high rate of cheesy starts that you just kinda have to weather. After that, you hit people with poor APM who try to play the game, and so on.
