I suppose where the unsteady earth is right now is with how many of these other smaller more rare challenge based games the community can handle at once. I know just in the game queue, there were three people mentioning running a mole game, I think PEG has mentioned it before too. There's a nice demand for modding the smaller games, but since its been a relatively quiet area in terms of activity lately, none of the mods really know how to jump in. Right now it feels like a lot is tentative because of the pokemon game. Depends on where it all balances itself out.

^

I don't think its a preventing issue, its an unknown territory not sure how to jump in issue. Time is the only solution for that though once things steady out a bit.

Speaking of interest in games, if you're ready to experience a game like no other, definitely check out Survivor: Expect the Unexpected, which has just entered sign-ups!

Let's see how many signups Colosseum draws, I mean that'll pretty much show how big of a draw there is for non-Survivor/BB games.

For once I wasn't!

Having a second thought here, a lot of it depends on which game too. Ex: no matter the pull of Colosseum, if someone made a thread for a mole game the day it started, it would certainly still find players.

In post 173, Flameaxe wrote:With the application turnout of NAH and hyrule, are we still even allowed to point at a small pool of players? The last few games have had a healthy amount of first timers, but not really a great amount of returning first timers. The system is set up for growth, but certain factors are killing any form of sustainment of that growth.

And I agree with Reck on the point that there is a demand for games in the 12-16 games in terms of mods, its just swept under the current 20+ player influx.

With the queue as new as it is though, I don't think adding a second one will help anyone. I would also argue that interest levels are dropping regardless of activity. We can easily get to a point where the current player base can support more than one queue, it might just take a bit of time with focus on the smaller games (mole, solitary, bb, w/e). Having a varied game list brings in more people that would otherwise not think to join a survivor game. A small stepping stone to help with an already large barrier to entry.

I think something to consider is that there may be a heightened interest from some people seeing a smaller starting number. I can see extra people signing up with a smaller game size, especially if it's their first or second game or just if 24 is too much of a time commitment at the time. I'm curious to see what 2 16 player games running side by side would bring. I also wonder how many people would play in both!

I don't see what's currently preventing mods from running small games. If such a thing were to happen, I'd think about running two (partially or wholly) concurrently.

We had 40+ apps for Hyrule so we cut at least 15+

I think the issue with smaller games is that they have to go through the queue and if someone is going to wait literally 6 months to a year to be able to mod, they're not going to want to waste it on a smaller game

It included "Player or Spectator" choices.

Again, I think players with 15 or less going thru the queue is what's stopping more games from being run.

If we run two games side by side, what's to say they have to both go into signups at the exact same day? If they're staggered and the second game starts when the first one is at, say, the merge, half the players will already be eliminated and it will be easier to fill.

We've worked around that in the past. Mods of both games talk to each other to make sure not to schedule challenges at the same time so if they share players, then there's little to no conflict. Or at least, I've always been a huge advocate of mods communicating and always talk to mods running games during/before/after my own games. Because really, that's part of being a good mod. Taking care of your players and trying to make things work for as many people as possible as best you can.
