I mean -- I guess if it cost $50 I might see your point.
I personally would probably still buy it, if any of my friends had it -- that's how much fun its been for me. (I also use it to play solo games especially if I want to play over multiple sessions, learn rules to games I haven't played yet, try out new variants, etc..)

You can't honestly say you're getting "nothing" for $15 when there are built in games and hundreds and hundreds of mods that are extremely easy to install (literally just hitting the + button)
The fact that you can join a game and the host can pick games at will without everyone joining having to grab the modules and install them ahead of time is gravy.

Now you can personally say paying the relatively low price of $10-15 is not worth it for you, and thats something nobody can dispute. Calling it absurb, however, in my opinion is absurd.

Well, it's similar to the Steam Mod thing... I'm not willing to pay for something that has a possibility (maybe even likely possibility) of getting DCMA'd

Tabletop simulator has no possiblity of getting DCMA'd .

Some mods might, but that just means you can't get them anymore.
Once you have the files you have them for good, and they don't cost anything.

I personally don't see it as against my principles to load up a mod thats not available anymore, especially when one of the people Im playing with or myself owns the physical board game.
One cool thing that I like is getting player created expansions for games.
Sentinels of the multiverse, for example, has some awesome fan created content that you can't purchase in a store.

Here is a discussion about this on BoardGameGeek for anyone interested in more people who have used the program(s) opinions: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/116055 ... eam/page/1
BBGers seem for the most part happy with TTS. Also a good thing to note is that you can download a demo of TTS for free on steam, it's the same but without the multi-player. And the table flipping can be turned off (thank goodness) :P

Really? I'd want that option just to piss CDB off.

2nd week at Board Game group tonight...

Missed out on Camel cup, which Im gutted about, I love Camel Cup

Started with One Night Ultimate Werewolf. Too many roles, a bit too much randomness, my inner mafia player was screaming. I pulled the robber, then swapped it for the Tanner. One of the werewolves lied about getting the robber, which I counterclaimed, when questioned further I stopped, which gained me a nice 3 votes and a win.

Then I played Evolution, which was cool. Make species up and give them attributes and increase their body size and population. Then you have to feed them all from a limited supply of food or as a carnivore attack other players. Sadly my hard-shelled climbing carnivore and my scavenging climbing defence hurders could only manage 2nd. It was a fun game though and I would quite like to own it. It's also got really beautiful artwork. Kickstarter for the expansion/second edition are here - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/19 ... ame-system, People should take a look.

Riccochet Robots was next (as we had others finishing up ancient settlers I think it was called). Frustrating puzzle game with no strategy. Players were sniggering in the background, as the guy who brought it out only brings it out against newbies, because noone will play against him. I enjoy problem solving puzzles, and I may have enjoyed it more had I not being playing someone who is able to work these things out in seconds.

Then there was a japanese gambling game, I forget what it was called, but it was a bit too simple for me (which is saying something because I actively prefer simpler games). I could probably make a version myself.

Then Avalon to finish, I was Merlin. It ended prematurely on the third mission because after passing the first two missions, the spy only remembered at the last second he was meant to fail the third and had to inadvertently pull out his card, showing me and another player. The assassin got me, for once not because of my play but because two townies were arguing between themselves, and the third townie kept approving the missions with spies on them.

I enjoy these nights though, glad evolution took the longest though, as it was by far the highlight of the night. Dead of Winter doesn't seem to go down well there, so its going to have to remain in its box a while longer.
Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.

I have Tabletop Sim and it's really cool if you have people to play with but are close to you...since 200+ ping REALLY slows down things to where they are unplayable from the last time I've played.

The only Japanese Gambling game that I can think of that's simple is Oicho-Kabu.

I've mostly played tabletop simulator with people in alabama, and I live California -- I've had no network issues. Your mileage may vary.

There were 15 cards numbered 1 to 15, at the start a card was dealt out to each player and one placed face up in the middle, the rest face down. Then players take it in turn to either take a face down card into their hands, and openly discard one of their two cards or they can replace the face up card in the middle with a face down one. You then choose if you think you have the highest card by betting a token (you get 4 at the start), one extra token from a set of 10 in the middle. The winner is the player with the highest number, however the face up card in the middle gets added to the player who has the lowest card number. The last round, you bet 2 tokens instead of 1.

We played with 3 players. It didn't really work as there was no real strategy. I was told it was better with 6 but that the final round decided everything making the first 8 rounds void.

Sounds like something that would really be decided on the end few rounds, though I'm not sure what this game is called.

Also, it's more country to country that has problems than state to state. 200+ ping is guaranteed from where I play with any American and is definitely unplayable.

It might not be Japanese, I was told it was, but it might have been because the name was Japanese sounding.

Played 2 games tonight. Sparticus, which was alright once I got into it, but there were to many ideas flying around and by the time I was there I was unlikely (and didn't) win.

Grog Island, primarily a betting game, where you bet to build on islands of different colours. There are secret goals as well, but you can pass out of betting and take various different cards. Its hard to explain, but I enjoyed it a lot. The betting mechanic, where you roll 5 different coloured dice and you can use a combination of these dice to add up to your total bet, which you make with your money, but you can only build on the island colours of the 2 highest coloured dice, the more dice you use, the more resources people after you who pass will get, which in turn means they can do more in future rounds, etc. Sounds complicated, really wasn't. Secret goals added up at the end a la Seven Wonders. Was really fun, would play again, wouldn't buy, the points ratio was a bit off and needs maybe a tweak.

Smallville and Istanbul tonight. Enjoyed Istanbul. Smallworld was a bit too simplistic.

I went tonight to play BSG and Tokaido.

Arrived a couple of minutes late for Tokaido, (damn bus, waited at one stop for about 5 minutes for no reason) and only got 2 others wanting BSG. Apparently it takes too long, which I can almost accept. One of the players afterwards said also it depends on the players to make it fun, which I can understand, these guys, whilst a lot of them are nice, are quite reserved and quite serious, which I have to say I do find a little difficult.

Just ordered mass drop for 'Doomtown Reloaded' It looks like a lot of fun and should hopefully be a nice holdover until game of thrones card game 2nd edition is released.

It's not Settlers, but as far as more "complex" games go past Settlers/Ticket to Ride, it's pretty simplistic.

I mean, you don't really have to make that many choices, and the complexity comes from the race/class combinations, which are randomized and pre-selected for you.

I don't think Smallworld has a ton of deep strategic possibilities (or even tactical ones).

hmmm didn't seem that way from video playthroughs, but I suppose its more of a CCG than a board game which tend to have more complexity as a baseline.

It certainly seemed less complex than the Game of thrones Card game, which I loved.
