Meh, an 8-man draft is not really a trophy-worthy event. It's something you do on an afternoon because you're bored and felt like playing Magic. Splitting the prizes of an 8-4 means each of you comes out with a profit, and you can play the finals out for the MOCS QP. I prefer splitting when it's a value set because I can sell my packs for more drafts, and splitting sometimes pays for TWO drafts instead of one.- Natirasha

Team sport vs individual events. Additionally, Magic players don't have million dollar sponsorship contracts that make them money regardless of performance. I'm obviously speaking out my ass here, but money plays less of a role in other major individual sports likely because the events don't have prizes or have auxiliary prizes with the expectation the athletes are covered by their organizational sponsors.Current Avatar: Dr. Contessa(OC, art by @pastelpuffin)- Natirasha

I drafted a Fulminator and Bitterblossom last night! Also turned my Mox Opal into a lot of random EDH stuff I wanted.
Was sweet.Current Avatar: Dr. Contessa(OC, art by @pastelpuffin)- hasdgfas

Drafted my box of MM15 with the help of some friends today.
Mythics: Goyf, Kiki-Jiki, Ulamog
Rares of note: Noble Hierarch, Wilt-Leaf Liege, Cryptic Command, Fulminator Mage, Leyline of Sanctity
Overall: Super fun set to draft, feel like I got my money's worth, even if I didn't technically "make my money back", although it's pretty close.jdodge1019: hasjghsalghsakljghs is from vermont

Started 0-1, got to 5-1 before picking up loss 2 to the better version of my deck. Lost my 6-2 win and in for day 2.

If the prices rebound post-GPs like most people seem to be expecting, that probably is making your money back and a bit.
Picked up my 3rd Goyf today by trading out a bunch of Standard staples + 2 Leylines and a Hierarch. Probably overvalued it a bit but I don't play enough Standard to care any more.- Natirasha

I'd gladly trade standard trash below value for goyfs.

I'm really enjoying Standard. But maybe that's my local store meta and that fact that I'm building ridiculous decks every time I go to Standard Night.
Also, the old "Do I take the foil Tarmogoyf over Burst Lightning in the GP Vegas Top 8 Draft when I'm in RW?" question. Pascal Maynard's answer?yesjdodge1019: hasjghsalghsakljghs is from vermont

I don't think I could be strong enough to resist that, just as a souvenir of top 8'ing the biggest GP ever.- hasdgfas

To be fair, I've whined about standard since Lorwyn.
Although I only started consistently whining about it in RTR.Current Avatar: Dr. Contessa(OC, art by @pastelpuffin)- hasdgfas

Yeah, azusa is a really mediocre replacement - the nut draw is obviously the Amulet+bloom+bounceland+action draw, but the backup nut draw is bloom+bounceland into turn 3 action spell, which is often good enough - that's partly the reason the deck is consistent, despite needing to assemble so many strange pieces.
Draws where you're relying on azusa you tend to lose, honestly. The equivalent turn 2 azusa draw sort of works, if azusa survives - amulet t1, bounceland azusa t2 (play 2 lands), turn 3 play 2 lands play a 6 mana spell. But the equivalent of the non-amulet draw simply doesn't work - it's like, turn 3 azusa, turn 4 6 mana spell - turn 4 is normally too late when you're not winning the game on the spot.(10:50:24 PM) xcaykex: GODDAMNIT I DONT WANNA GET RID OF MY TENTACLE RAPE PORN

Went 2-4 officially in the PPTQ today with Living Twin. I conceded the last round and split as my opponent wanted the PWP for GP byes. Still got 5 packs out of it. Lost to the heavy permission decks: UR Twin twice and Esper Control. Beat Tarmo-twin twice very easily and then crushed what looked like Abzan Company.jdodge1019: hasjghsalghsakljghs is from vermont

About to start getting into MtgO - I've mostly been playing beginner constructed last time I played, but want to try using my new player points to try some drafting. I've got experience in other CCGs but limited experience in Magic itself. Would anyone be willing to raidcall/teamspeak/mumble with me and help me get some experience tomorrow afternoon?- Debonair Danny DiPietro
