Behaviour
- Don’t be a dick. This is a heated game but below the belt attacks will not be tolerated. Attack the play not the player.
Animated GIFs
- are of the devil, but they are permitted behind spoilers if clearly labelled as such.
Tiny text
- is also of the devil, keep it 70+ please.
Confirmation
- You have 48 hours to confirm your role and your alignment by PM. Game will start sooner if everyone confirms. Posting in a private topic counts as confirmation.
Days
- Days last 14 days. Extensions will be granted if there are replacements.
Lynching
- Days end early when a simple majority of players (50% of living players + 1 rounded down) vote to lynch somebody. If a majority is not reached at deadline or if a majority of the players vote for no lynch, the day will end without a lynch. At evens, 50% is sufficient for no lynch.
Voting
- Votes must be in bold in the format VOTE: Plotinus or
Vote: Plotinus
. Strong preference for using vote tags instead of bold tags. Unvotes are nice but not required. If I think it’s a vote, it’s a vote, no tricks.
Get a Room

Twilight

- You may submit actions via PM or PT. If the actions are not submitted by the deadline then you do nothing that night. You can change your mind as many times before the deadline.

important setup informationYou are all bodyguards. You can only protect against a direct shot by the mafia. You cannot prevent someone dying through any other means than a direct shot by the mafia.

This means that if Alice protects Bob, and Bob protects Carol, and the mafia shoot Carol, Bob will die. It doesn't matter that Alice was protecting Bob because the mafia didn't shoot Bob, they shot Carol.

If Alice and Bob both protect Carol, it will be chosen randomly whether Alice or Bob will die.

The mafia can self target if they want to.

The following mechanic is in play:

Get a RoomIn addition to voting for the lynch, if players are engaging in an annoying argument, players may vote for up to 2 players to "get a room". If at least 3 players vote in this manner, those two players will gain a temporary post restriction that they may not talk to or about each other for 48hours or the rest of the day phase (whichever is shorter). More than one group of players can be told to get a room at a time.

If the players in the argument are not members of the same scum faction, a private topic will be created for the two players to continue their discussion. Otherwise, if daytalk exists, they may continue their argument in their scum PT if desired. If daytalk does not exist, they will just have to pretend they were given a room.

While restricted in this manner, they may continue to vote and unvote each other normally. They may also tell each other to get a room with somebody else normally.

Players who break their post restriction 3 times over the course of the game will lose their vote for the rest of the current Day phase. Warnings will be publicly issued and the moderator's discretion is final. Restrictions do not begin until they have been acknowledged by the moderator.

Place a vote using the word "Get a room" in bold. Examples:

(in response to some stupid TvT argument that you’re tired of reading / in response to someone scumhunting your buddy a little too hard)

Abusing this mechanic because you want a PT with your friend is fine with me if you can get enough votes to pull it off, but intentionally annoying other players with the sole purpose of gaining a PT is not. Try asking the town nicely like so "Hey guys, otherWallPoster and I want to spend 6 pages walling at each other. If you don't want to read this exchange, help us out:

Because it seems gimmicky otherwise. There can be up to 36 rooms total because math (well, 35 neighbourhoods + 1 mafia PT) but I don't want to just make 36 neighbourhoods at the start of the game for people who don't even want them. I think if it's a tiny bit harder to get them then they will mostly go to people who care enough to get one.

mod notesI am sorry to the scumteam, I think you got the short end of the stick here.

You all played well and I was impressed with the way town worked together and with the way all of you, town and scum played at various points in the game.

Notscience was doing really well in his PTs early on, making friends with everybody and there was a point when it looked like he would get himself firmly into the town bloc as a result. I think if real life issues hadn't come up, he could have won this.

The_Jester did really well as first time as scum. He wasn't scumread hardly at all, he was just POE'd.

herrcombs, Apricity, and Postie were all in a difficult position because they weren't in enough PTs to understand all of what was going on and they were being scumread basically for being new and unpolished and busy offline, which sucked. I was really impressed with how they played and how they didn't give up in the face of adversity in this game.

Tere and RadiantCowbells did well as town leaders, course correcting after they made mistakes and co-ordinating night actions.

Espeonage and notscience both did really well with the setup cracking and trying to make the most of the setup for their respective factions.

Bins could easily have been mislynched after notsy because their prior friendship could have been mistaken for associatives and I was impressed that she managed to firmly reassert her place in the townbloc via her other rooms and her towniness.

wgeurts had to replace out before he did anything notable but he did a good job keeping me company in the dead PT and mod PT.

It was really a pleasure watching all of you play and you're all welcome in any future games I host.

I would also like feedback on a version 2.0 of the Get a Room mechanic that would make it possible for me to use it in a larger game (I don't want 171 rooms in a 19 player large theme, no thank you!) but would still allow it to work for its intended purposes.

This is the latest version:

Get a Room 2.0In addition to voting for the lynch, if players are engaging in an annoying argument or if you just want a neighbourhood with your friends, players may vote for several players to "get a room".

The number of votes required for a room to go through is

twice the number of occupants of the proposed room

(4 for a 2 person room, 6 for a 3 person room, 8 for a 4 person room, etc.).

Each player may not be given more than two rooms per day phase, and may not gain a new room while they have an active post restriction.

If enough people vote in this manner, those players will gain a

temporary post restriction

that they may not talk to or about each other in public for 48 hours or the rest of the day phase (whichever is shorter). While restricted in this manner, they may continue to vote and unvote each other normally, including room votes.

The room will be

locked after the initial 48 hours

but will

open again during the night phases

.

If the players who get the room are not all members of the same scum faction, a

private topic will be created

to continue their discussion. Otherwise, if daytalk exists, they may continue their argument in their scum PT if desired. If daytalk does not exist, the scum PT will be unlocked for 48 hours. Other members of their scumteam who were not included in the room, if any, may also speak in the PT during this period.

Players who break their post restriction 3 times over the course of the game will

lose their vote for the rest of the current Day phase

. Warnings will be publicly issued and the moderator's discretion is final. Restrictions do not begin until they have been acknowledged by the moderator.

(in response to some stupid TvT argument that you’re tired of reading / in response to someone scumhunting your buddy a little too hard)

Abusing this mechanic because you want a room with your friends is fine with me if you can get enough votes to pull it off, but intentionally annoying other players with the sole purpose of gaining a PT is not. Try asking the town nicely like so "Hey guys, otherWallPoster and I want to spend 6 pages walling at each other. If you don't want to read this exchange, help us out:

and these are the intended purposes:

townNoise reduction: if two-three people are clogging up the thread with shit that nobody else cares about, for example a TvT that everybody else figured out was a TvT 20 pages ago and it's still happening, those people can be sent off to have their discussion in private so that other people can get a word in edge wise.

Friends: sometimes it's easier to talk to friends in private or sort them without having to resort to speaking in tongues.

scumSnuggling up to people and getting them on your side in private where you only have to hit their notes without having to hit the notes of every single person in the town at once, dropping only the towntells that that particular player knows about without having to burn meta in front of people who don't even know those things are towntells for you.

Disrupting scumhunting by forcing certain conversations out of the public eye.

I agree. It's really hard not being able to know know who is going to get nightkilled and having the top 1-2 town players being virtually untouchable.

Do you think 3:6 would have been too far in the other direction? What if it stayed 7:2 but the bodyguards were 1-shot?

that's true too, not having to answer the "why aren't you dead yet" question is a blessing for people with townier scumgames. it might need a few more runs to find out if it's town sided or not.

making the bodyguards 1-shot wouldn't hurt town too much because you still have 7 bodyguard shots to try to reck the nightkill with but you couldn't use the same people each night.

I still have a lot of songs left if people want to give it another go with the updated get a room mechanic. I was going to do a mini next but the setup is still very much a rough draft and i'm not sure when I'll finish it, so that can wait.

I think one thing that could have really helped scum is that they got their room on page 5 and after that they didn't have to worry about slipping that they had private talk with each other and associative tells (which is one of the main things i look for in my own towngame) could easily be explained away by the neighbourhood.

I don't want to have hundreds of PTs in a large game, but I do like the way you guys used the mechanic and it was really fun to watch all of the rooms.

the new mechanic would be one new PT per day phase. so on day 1 each person could have a new PT (up to 4 in a 9 player game, maybe 2:2:2:3 or 3:3:3 or 2:2:2:2 and 1 person is left out, or some combination) and then on day 2 you could combine in a different configuration of new PTs.

the early game suffered a bit from the inactivity in the main thread, i thought.

the backup moderator idea is a good idea. for a game of this size i can handle it myself but a game with over 50 PTs would just be chaos I think.

13 player mini theme that gets to 3p lylo could have: 13+11+9+7+5+3 = 48 PTs. This isn't terrible because it's spread out over a longer period of time. Making 36 PTs in a single day is a lot of work, but making 7 in a day and then a few days later making another 6, and then not having to make any for a couple weeks, that's more doable.

2 PTs per player per day would be terrible in the 19 player large theme I want to run (99 potential private threads = no. not even with 3 backup moderators.) 1 PT per player per day in a 19 player game would max out at a much more reasonable 45 PTs.

but i'm not eligible to run a large theme yet.

We could try the 2 per player per Day phrase rule in another micro; you wouldn't be allowed to have a new one if the one you got this day phase is still unlocked (they only stay open for 48 hours, then reopen each night phase. this is to prevent stagnation in the main thread which I think killed the game a bit in the beginning.)

so start of day 1 you get your first PTs, then 48 hours later those lock and you get your second PTs, then 48 hours later those lock and then you don't get more PTs for a while, the day phase ends, all the PTs unlock, next day you can have more PTs.

I think I understand why you want the limit to be two, not one. It allows for whisper networks on day 1 instead of having to wait for day 2 to form them.

and it is almost mountainous, that's true.

I think it would be more interesting if everyone has 1-shot bodyguard and it wouldn't affect the balance too much, just a little bit.

town did play really well; i'm not trying to downplay that. I just really felt sorry for the scumteam because I do feel that some things that hurt them weren't their faults (real life stuff, herrcombs protecting radiantcowbells on night 2). I think both sides played well.

yeah, herr protecting RC was a wonderful townplay. and espe protecting you was also really great for town.

it's just that scum couldn't have anticipated it. it wasn't their fault that herr died; they thought herr was scumreading rc and wouldn't protect a scumread and that was good and sound logic. herr outWIFOMed the scum and did an excellent job.

For me, the main point of the setup was that the game I was a bodyguard in sucked but all I had to do to stop playing was correctly guess the night kill, and I did, and I was nightkilled, and then I could move on to the fun part of cheering people on from the dead thread.

Sometimes you have a really great game and you want to stay alive and keep convincing everybody that you're right; then you don't protect.

Sometimes you have a game where you're enjoying it but your reads are a bit off but you think X is doing well. So you protect X and if they're scum then you get to keep playing, but if they're the nightkill target, better you died than them.

Sometimes a game is just no fun at all and you just want to die or replace out but you've never replaced out of a game before and you hate doing it and the knowledge that you just have to figure out who the nightkill target is going to be and then you can stop playing is enough to sustain you.

I'd like to preserve that so that a person who wants to be killed still has a reasonable chance of being killed. But I want it to be more fair to the scumteam, too. The scumgames that I've lost were almost all lost at least partially due to fucking up the nightkill one way or another and the way it is now guarantees that the nightkill isn't going to land where scum wants it.

pedit: I like that. They could submit the entire playerlist in order of who they want to die the most. The first name is their target, and then if multiple people protect I use the order the scumteam submits instead of random order. I agree that making bodyguarding compulsory would help because then even the obvtowns have to protect each other.
