If you think that someone is deserving of a title, then nom them for one! Singer obviously deserves a title, as probably do a lot of people, but if nobody's suggesting good ones—or any at all—then what are you supposed to do? Give a title that doesn't really work for the sake of giving a title?

think we should set up a panel of, say, nine experienced MS members to assess titles. Three ladies, six men comes to mind. Oh and four of them would always oppose the other four on the more controversial titles, with one swing voter. And they would have to hand down lengthy judgements with each decision
