The proud and ancient town of Serona crowns a hilltop and nestles down in the folded hillsides high above the fertile fields of Tuscany. Two years ago, this town was decimated by a horrible plague of both natural and supernatural evil. Though townsfolk have gone about their business as usual, their eyes sometimes reflect back a haunted terror. So many died in that horrific incident, and the evil still seems to linger in dark corners and distant hillsides.

As you go about your early morning tasks, you look up, startled by the deep clang from the bell tower of the Abbey on the north face of the hill. It's far too early for Terce. The bell keeps clanging, and you realize that something has happened. Something important. Something wrong.

You rush out to the cobbled street and head toward the Abbey, jostled as neighbors pour into the streets and carry you along in a human wave to the monastery.

A few monks stand in the yard, faces distraught and heads bowed in prayer. You realize there is a body lying in the circle the monks have formed. The robe is as simple as that of any novice, but you'd recognize the plump silhouette anywhere. It is Fr. Stefano, the new abbot. A dagger stands improbably in his chest, and the brown robe is darkly stained around it. The image is hauntingly similar to your memory of his predecessor, Fr. Peitro's fate.

One of the monks looks up at the gathering crowd. "It was the Mafia who did this to him. But, why Fr. Stefano? Is this happening all over again?"

A richly garbed town elder dashes down the hill, his cap askew and his hosen legs splashed with mud. "Wolves! Wolves within the walls! They were in the Freemasons Hall again last night! Terrible!"

He catches his breath and the words spill out. Huge, ravenous preternatural wolves have returned to Serano from whatever unknown parts far to the north they had retreated to. They are back, leaving terrifying spoor from their nights' predations. Last night, these horrific wolves crashed through the tall repaired windows of the Hall and tore out the throat of the new Master of the Free Masons, Constantino Benaducce.

United in fear and in anger, you come together, townsfolk, monks and masons. Serona must pull together to battle the twinned scourge that threatens you, or you will surely perish.

General Rules:


Voting and Deadlines:



1. Voting must be bolded in the form
Vote: Player
or VOTE: Player, or else they will not be counted. Unvotes are not required to change your vote, but they are helpful.

2. I don't mind if you use nicknames/abbreviations when you vote someone. But if I have no idea who you're voting for, then the vote won't be counted.

3. Lynches require a majority of votes: (number-of-livingplayers/2) +1, rounded down.

4. If there's no majority at deadline, there's no lynch.

5. When the hammered vote is cast, it is officially twilight. All players may continue to talk about the game, but no votes/unvotes will count after a majority vote has been reached.

6. After you are lynched or night killed, you may make one "bah" post with no game-relevant information on the following game day. Nothing more.

7. Day phase deadlines are set at 72 hours. Should a replacement be needed, the countdown will pause until the slot has a new owner.

8. Night phases will last 24 hours. Any night actions must be submitted within 24 hours of the Night phase start.

9. Phases that fall on weekends will have an additiona 24 hours: 96 hours for days, 48 hours for nights. Some additional time will also be given for phases that fall on the holidays

Prods and Replacements:



1. Prods will be given if you do not post in 24 hours.

2. You will be replaced if you either do not respond to a prod within 6 hours, or need to be prodded more than 3 times total. You may request for a player to be prodded at any time, but the less you request, the happier your mod is. Prods requested when a player has been absent for less than 18 hours do not count for replacement purposes.

3. If you're V/LA, make sure I know. If you are V/LA for more than 2 days, I'd suggest requesting replacement, but that's not required. If a lengthy V/LA is adversely affecting the game (e.g., if you are not able to post minimally during that time), then your mod may replace you without penalty.

1. Dark Blue (#004080) is the color I will use for mod posts. Please don’t use this color or otherwise try to make your posts look like mod posts.

2. You can talk about the game in any private threads given to you via PM. Otherwise, please refrain from talking about this game outside of this thread, and don't talk about other
ongoing
games inside of this game thread. This is a sitewide rule.

3. No editing, deleting, using invisible texts, etc...

4. Don't quote mod-recieved PMs. Paraphrasing is permissible. If you're unsure where the line is drawn re discussing role PMs or other mod-received communications, please check with me before making a post you think could be questionable.

5. I make mistakes. Show me them where you see them.

6. Questions are vastly preferred over Modkills. If you're about to do something that you're unsure about, then tell me about it first and I'll let you know if it's ok.

It has been a short day, and the arguments have been ugly and heated. You are sure that you have found one of the intruders, though whether guilty of the murder at the Abbey or the horrific mauling in the Freemasons Hall you neither know nor care. Someone must pay.

The sun sets, and the warm glow reflected on the stone walls slowly fades. A chill wind springs up, driving first mist and then full rain before it You huddle, head down, back to the wind with the other townsfolk, as the noose is placed around the young man's neck. He protests his innocence to the last, but it cannot be.

This is the second time I've modded this setup. The first time, both the Masonry and the Monkery were 1-town, 1-scum. In this game, the roll turned out that both neighborhoods were town only. When Mina and I discussed the 2-1-1 situation that arose here, we talked about the win condition as it's written in the Wiki. She thought the optimal play for the Werewolves was to vote No Lynch right off the bat and go directly to Night phase. Then, it would be a question of whether they night killed mafia or town to decide the game as either a werewolf win or a werewolf/mafia tie.

I thought you played a really strong game, especially given your partner died on N1 before you were even in the game.

After running this game a second time, although I really like the two-neighborhood setup and mechanic where they can both potentially be infiltrated, the town in this setup is too weak. This is the 9th time the setup has been played at MS, and so far town has never won.

Someday I may tweak the setup and run it one more time.

Personally, I think their should be a Cop role or something to the roles.
I know its called "Masons and Monks" but seriously, the town are underpowered to all hell in this game.

It could hurt to give them 1 investigative, right?


It has to be something that could hurt both scum teams. Cop, Seer and at least 1 monk and 1 mason would be too many town power roles, I think.

A weak protective role that dies if it protects either scum team might work.

to clarify
Monks can be WW/mafia but not WW/WW or mafia/mafia, same with masons


I think this would violate the basic premise of the game.

I really like the premise. It was a lot of fun working with the flavor in the first game. I dialed way back on flavor for this game because of the quick pace.
