The original XylBot was a script that could host, create and resolve complex games of live Mafia. Although it was great at many things, it fell into disuse a few years ago. I have tried to fix all problems I think caused the abandonment, the major ones being the need to memorize quite a few IRC and Mafia commands, the extensive list of superfluous roles and aliases, the bizarre auto-generated setups, the lack of a setup builder for humans, the counterintuitive way of sending night actions and the poor formatting.

Roles, mechanics and action resolution have been modified to roughly match Mafiascum's current less-crazy Marathon meta. The entire application has been wrapped into a heavily customized web IRC client.

To play, simply click the big link above, sign up and type !start or !in, depending on what XylBot suggests, and wait until the game has filled. Vote by typing "!vote nameofplayer" (you can use tab to autocomplete usernames), or by clicking on a username on the right hand panel while a game is in progress. The bot will automatically inform you of what night actions you can use and how to use them. If you want to know what a role does or if you need a fakeclaim, type "/help nameofrole" in #mafia. Real documentation is coming soon.

Hit the sign up button instead of using the enter key. The form's default action is to sign in.

Why did you remove XylBot's setup generator?


To keep it accessible. When playing a generated setup, you're playing as much against the bot as against the other players.

I can't believe I forgot this, but a shout out to the pre-launch playtesters, without whom (that's for you bulge) the game would still be broken as hell.

I brought back the AITP roles. I modified them so they can also be combined with non-palace flavored roles and alignments.

The King kills his entire team when dying. Guards are aware of the King's identity. Assassins behave exactly like vengefuls, except that they always win if the King dies.

!start assassin starts a game of assassin in the palace, !start now starts one of the following setups:

3 => "ss3",
4 => "assassin",
5 => "vengeful",
6 => "lovers",
7 => "bird7p",
8 => "kidswithguns",
9 => "cd9*"

If a townie is lynched, the guard commits suicide before they shoot. As such, it's best for the guard to try and get lynched.

King and guard are on one team, townies on the other.

If the King is lynched on Day 1, the town wins. If the Guard is lynched on Day 1, the game proceeds to lylo. If a vengeful townie is lynched on Day 1, the guard commits suicide. If the vengeful kills the King, the town wins. If not, the town loses.

In the original setup, he did. In the chat mafia variant, he doesn't. This can be changed if the game turns out to be scum-sided because the associative tells are lacking.

ok just to be clear this isn't affiliated to the marathon weekend also there's a marathon weekend so you probably won't be able to round up enough people to play this weekend

Chatmafia died because it was unmaintainable and buggy and the git with the source code mysteriously disappeared. After that, I created rty, which I stopped running on my server because no one was playing. I'd be willing to set it up again if there's some indication it would be used.

The Mafia logic was based on xylbot, but it was heavily modified.

The web app was adapted from a webIRC client, but I extended the IRC protocol to deal with other markup (like newlines!). It also included a setup creator, a GUI for Xylbot commands and other things I can't remember.

IIRC, altering or adding core mechanics to Xylbot was very complicated because of its structure, but the weird unreproducable bugs spawning from communication between the web server, the IRC server, and Xylbot was what broke me in the end.
