So I found out yesterday that a new Fire Emblem game is coming out in a week. I know the guy who is writing it. What else do I need to know about it? I don't know why the game is split in two parts. Do I want both parts? Is the battle system gonna be similar to Awakening?

Based on what I can tell from previews and the fact that it's Fire Emblem, the battle system should be pretty similar. Maybe a couple small changes, but 90% the same.
As far as the parts, I don't actually know. They haven't done this before. They should be two separate stories, so you shouldn't NEED both parts, but they are two separate Fire Emblem games.

I play it on and off. It's rather nice.
I personally love it, it reminds me of FTL quite a bit as far as the feel of the game goes. It's hard but highly enjoyable. However there's a lot of RNG; I don't like how the enemy mobs getting lucky crits and lucky stun/blight/bleed resistances can turn the tide of the fight (not to mention the dungeon run) around. I feel punished by means out of my control for no reason at all sometimes.
I swear I'm trying my best

For those interested, I went and found some more info on Fire Emblem.

So the way the game is set up, is it is essentially 3 games that include the same characters but are entirely different stories. I'm not sure if it is alt timelines or if it's 1 story for either side, but the 3 parts(Birthright, Conquest, Revelation) are being touted as stand alone games and not the same game with different packaging and goodies a la Pokemon. Conquest and Birthright are both 40$USD with Revelation being released a month later as 20$USD DLC. That would normally be pretty outrageous but Nintendo is actually doing people a favor here, if you buy a copy of Conquest/Birthright, you can actually opt to download the other game as DLC for the 20 dollar discounted price. Sure, that eats up memory and you take the hit in only being able to sell one hardcopy back to the store when you rage out but it saves you 20 +tax. So, take that for what you will. For those that thought the story of Awakening was no good, they can (possibly) take solace in that they have heard your complaints and have hired a multiple award winning and high-selling mangaka for the story for the games.
Thanks Reck, now I have a headache Didn't 100% it, but beating the puzzles was satisfying at times. Other puzzles were like running headfirst at a wall repeatedly and didn't even feel that good when solved. As for it's message, the material was nice, but I don't think it's for me in the long run. I think all in all, I mostly liked the island for what it was. Daring game all in all, and it was a decent passtime.
But man, it's not healthy to dislike unfinished puzzles.
Surrender, imagine and of course wear something nice.

Fire Emblem: Fates is the best thing Intelligent Systems has put out since at least Path of Radiance, possibly even longer. It fixed literally every problem I had with Awakening's gameplay, and the story is so ridiculously nonsensical I swear it's secretly a parody(at least, Conquest, still haven't gotten to the other one).
Most importantly, the waifus are a way better in this one. While we're missing out on any breakout hits like Tharja, the cast as a whole is more interesting. Now if I could actually get my gay romance on and not have to play a dude...
(I chose Peri for Conquest waifu, her and strict-pacifist Corrin are best couple)

I picked up the Special Edition of Fates and am playing through it(although very slowly). I'm really enjoying it even though I'm only on Chapter 4. Probably going through the Birthright story first. Story seems significantly more interesting than most other Fire Emblems, even based on these few chapters. I also really enjoy the few changes to base gameplay I've seen when compared to Awakening.

I was pretty lucky to see right when it went up on Gamestop and was able to jump right on it.
