And just when I'd forgotten how criminal mtg prices are.

lol. Nothing criminal about supply and demand. These are promos of which only a handful are made, so the supply is very low. Also, they're the only foil versions of these cards available, so theres a pretty high demand from people who like foils.

Also also. You think that's bad?

Don't click this link to see what that Force of Will costs.

As someone who enjoys playing, but doesn't give a crap about collecting, yes, they are criminal. 4 dollars is 10 boosters, give or take. Why on earth would I spend 40 dollars on a single card?

That's also why I just play online emulators at this point.

Well mainly because you cant get these cards in boosters...

Also, if to get all the cards you want for a deck you have to open 50 boosters, you're spending WAY more money on sealed product than it would cost just to build the deck.

1. I don't build decks around certain cards. I just take the cards I have and build decks.
2. Boosters also give other cards which are worth money. I was able to sell Garruk from Core 2015 back when he was $120, but I've never played BG in my life.
3. Boosters are fun to open. The surprise is a joy in itself.

1) That's fine. You are what is called a "casual player." That's a fine way to play the game. It's, however, not the way that a lot of other people play the game. There are tournaments and they're a lot of fun to play. You need to put more thought into which cards go in your deck. Why is the way you play better than the way other people play?

2) The average monetary value of the cards in a booster pack varies by set but it hovers around $1.50 to $2.50. you are almost always losing money on average when you crack a booster pack.

For instance, the pack EV of Oath is around 2.50. Here's the math http://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/the ... -gatewatch

3) Fair point. If you like playing scratch offs then thats on you. I don't really enjoy it, though.

To compare booster packs to scratch offs is insulting to the packs... Even if you don't get something super exciting, you can still use the other cards.

But you still lost money on just buying the cards. It really is the same thing outside of cases like the packs being a prize and you not wanting the hassle of reselling them.
Taking a break from the site.

Fine. Write me a script that will buy me X random cards for Y dollars and I will no longer buy booster packs. If it truly is a better deal, then I'll be able to save money AND get the excitement of random cards. Until then, I buy booster packs.

I stopped playing magic after the pack that came after Zendikar, forget what it was killed. That pack had a bunch of shitty cards and basically just kept khans in. Then the one after that got overpriced shit or whatever?

I may get back into it soon. The last time I played I won like 60 bucks which felt nice. Tournaments and shit

I see your powerpoint.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

Also, legacy players: Thoughts on RUG Delver vs Storm as something to build to get back into legacy?

The cost is relatively the same, as for one I'd have to buy 4 goyf + 6 duals and for the other I'd have to buy 4 Duals + 8 fetches + 4 LED.
