Bastard?:
Yes; one player will change alignment.
Hydras Allowed?:
Only if
not a single player
objects (and if no one does: I will
not
facilitate individual heads).
Other Restrictions?:
No.

Description:

Unreviewed
new set-up.
- No specific power roles.
- No mafia team: instead: there is one
possessed
, which will appoint a successor on death (in this 9 player set-up, this only happens once). The previous possessed will be able to talk to its successor.
- Before the game, you determine if you're
pure
or
tempted
.
- Tempted are eligible to be chosen as the posessed (either randomly pre-game, or specifically chosen on death by the first possessed).
- Pure players will only be able to be chosen as possessed if no tempted players are available.
- The possessed know who the tempted are.
- No nightpowers, except factional kill.
- One daypower, you can choose between 2 cop-like scans. You need to vote which scanner to use, and on who (like the lynch, this requires an absolute majority).
- Possession scan: reveal whether the player is possessed or not. This acts like a weak cop. If you find the possessed this way, the one doing the scanning (by default the hammerer) will be killed, but the possessed will be auto-lynched, ending the day. In lylo situations, this will result
in a win for the possessed
.
- Psych scan: reveal whether the player is tempted or not.
- Lynch mechanics as usual.
- 13 days / 24 hours.

If you feel like there's something wrong with the set-up, you may contact me.

I have 1 pre-in from Realeo.
He cancelled his pre-in.

Regarding hydra's (as Marquis's update makes it seem like they're unconditinally allowed): I will allow them as long as
not a single player objects
. Keep this in mind when you sign up as a hydra, as I will ask you to out or play as an individual instead, if I do get any objections.
Also: after sign-ups, I will not facilitate individual heads, and will treat you as a single player. Posts from players not in the players list will be deleted, you don't get access to PT's etc., I basically will forget you're a hydra.

Regarding bastard: this is a open game, so you're aware of the possibility that there's likely one other player who will change alignment. You have some control over this.

I will attempt to do minimal flavour. I have some ideas in my head, but I'm also lazy.

Spoiler: mechanics overview
- No specific power roles.
- No mafia team: instead: there is one possessed, which will appoint a successor on death (in this 9 player set-up, this only happens once). The previous possessed will be able to talk to its successor.

Dayphases last 13 days.
Nightphases last 24 hours.
Note the nightphases are shorter than usual.
Deadlines will generally be at 00:00 CEST (which is GMT + 1 + 1), unless I have other plans in the evening, at which point it may be delayed for a few hours, which I may or may not announce. I will announce more significant delays of course.
If an absolute majority has been reached, or if you succesfully use the possession scan on the possessed (see below), the night will start as soon as I post the write-up and have locked the thread. I like to try to keep starts and ends of phases close to 00:00 CEST, but I'll give you the extra hours for the nightphase if I start it before 00:00 CEST.

There are no individual power roles. Your role PM will state one thing only: your alignment.
It's either
sacrifice

possessed

Those who are possessed will function as Micellupan's corporeal vessel..
The possessed will be this game's "mafia", except they don't play in a team. There will be one at a time, and when the first one dies, it will appoint a successor. In this micro game, Micellupan will be able to possess 2 unfortunate victims. One player will start out as the possessed, but this means it's possible one player will have his alignment changed mid-game. If the first possessed dies, it will appoint a successor. The first possessed will be able to talk to its successor in a private topic. The first possessed will have a maximum of 24 hours to choose its successor, the deadline will be on hold in the meantime. If the first possessed fails to choose a successor within the time limit, I'll choose one randomly.

Perhaps you don't mind offering yourself to the demon Micellupan for a taste of its power..
Before the game, you need to determine if you're
tempted
or
pure
. This has various consequences for the gameplay.
The first possessed will be randomly chosen among the players who are tempted. If no tempted are available, then the pure will be eligible. Likewise, if the first possessed dies, it can only choose among the tempted players who his successor will be, unless there are no tempted players available, in which case pure players become eligible.
Micellupan can look into your soul.. The first possessed knows from the start who the tempted players are.

The
sacrifices
: you win when the possessed is dead, and can no longer possess anyone else, and at least one of you survives.
The
possessed
: you win when nothing can prevent the possessed from eliminating the sacrifices.

Due to the mechanics, the first possessed counts for 2 players for purpose of checking win conditions. This means if it's down to 4 players, but you haven't found the first possessed yet, the possessed will have won (it's similar to a 2 mafia versus 2 town situations). However, I'll leave it up to the players if they want to continue for honour (trying to catch the possessed at least once).

V

The voting mechanic is mostly as usual.
During the dayphase, you may vote to remove one player from the game (i.e. "lynch"). You do this by bolding
vote: player
or using the vote tags.
No lynch
is an acceptable vote, and is used if you want to end the day without a lynch. You may post
remove vote
(or
unvote
) to remove your vote altogether.
Do not unvote if you simply want to change your vote, I prefer to see only a single vote-related statement per post, so simply vote another player. If you do unvote to remove your vote, please don't add a name behind it.
Lynches (or no lynches) require absolute majority of the votes to go through, meaning a number of votes equal to 50% of the number of active players, rounded down, plus 1.
Once an absolute majority has been reached, the (no) lynch is locked in, and no new votes will be counted. The player to be lynched may talk until the write-up for the end of the day has been posted.

Besides the lynch, you can vote for scanning, which is explained below.

A
b
i
l
i
t

s

The possessed has a factional kill. This is the only ability used at night.
Like mentioned before, there are no individual power roles, so there are no other individual abilities. Instead, there is a communal cop-like ability during the day, which you can activate by voting. There are 2 scan abilities to choose from, and you need to vote which one to use and on who., you can only use one scan ability each day. The first combination of scanner and target to reach absolute majority will be the one used.
These are the 2 scan abilities:
Possession scan
(active) (day): investigate whether target player is possessed or not. If you succesfully find the possessed this way, the possessed will lash out, and kill the player doing the scanning, but will be automatically lynched afterwards (if no win condition has been reached before that), and this will end the day.
Psych scan
(active) (day): investigate whether target player is pure or tempted.
You can vote for either by bolding
Possession scan:
player
or
Psych scan:
player
.
To elaborate on the implications of the possession scan: it acts like a weak day cop more or less. If you successfully find the possessed this way, the one doing the scanning will die. By default this will be the hammerer, however, you can
Volunteer to scan
. Afterwards, the possessed will be automatically lynched, unless the possessed has achieved its win condition because of the death of the player doing the scanning. The day ends either way.
In all other situations, when using the psych scanner, or using the possession scanner on someone who's not possessed, the day continues as normal. So you probably want to discuss and decide on scanning before you decide on lynching. Results of the scans will be publicly revealed in the gamethread.

At game start, you confirm by the way stated in your welcome PM. When 7 players have confirmed, the game starts.
You will be prodded after 48 hours of not posting, although I'll be flexible right before and after nightphases.
I'll look for a replacement in the folowing cases:
- When you don't confirm within 48 hours.
- When you have received 3 prods.
- When you ask to be replaced.
I may or may not allow you to continue to play after I've requested a replacement, but haven't found one yet.

I don't want to officially in as a mod yet, but I want to run the
Mystery Box mafia
in September.
All players can once a day exchange their current role for whatever is in the Mystery Box.. Which could be better. Or worse.

only open to people who like chocolate

Description:

Players can exchange their current role for the surprise role currently held in the

I have no specific rule for this, but the plan is once per 24 hours (though not at a set time). Roles will be randomly generated. I'm still determining how exactly, but the plan is: roughly a somewhat bigger chance than 50 for
a
role, a
slim
chance for a positive modifier, and a moderate chance for a negative modifier. Most roles and modifiers will be standard, but there may be some originals, and some set-up specific ones. Anyway, again, still determining details.

*
It would probably help if everyone signing up would state their preference regarding hydras next to their /in, so any potential hydras wanting to sign up can immediately see whether they're accepted.

I believe that makes it my turn?
I have pre-ins from:

NJAC
House
Maruchan

And I'll PM them when Marquis officially starts sign-ups.

Currently
Hydras are fine if both heads are known and have played with eachother before.

Game will start Monday evenening (CEST) at the earliest.

In post 896, gigabyteTroubadour wrote:/in Mystery Box

Cool with hydras, might even ask my hydra buddy if she wants to give it a go again too. Does the game we played together have to be finished for us to be allowed to /in together or does that not yet count as "playing together"?
If you give me a link, I'll pass it on and ask if it's a problem.

Game rules & mechanics

In short

Hydras at the moment are allowed. Mention your preference when signing up. Hydras must be previously established and heads must be known according to current preferences. I will not cater to individual heads if hydras sign up, to me you're one player.
12 days / 48 hours. Day- and night cycle will be called a turn (may matter for some ability timings). Deadlines at 00:00 CEST.
Exchange your role once a turn. Send me a PM.
All roles are randomly generated. Generally speaking it's a role + modifier, though you can end up vanilla and / or with no mods.
Apart from being able to exchange your them, abilities (and mods) generally work as usual and most will be familiar. You can only use one each turn, even if you exchange your role.
Voting as usual.
No 3rd party shenanigans.
Daytalk.
Dead players (and spectators?) may discuss the mechanics and offer suggestions. I'm flexible.

What's in the box?

So, the theme of the game is the mysterious mystery box. All players are free to exchange their current role for the contents of the mystery box. You may get something better. You may get something worse.

The rule: you may only exchange your current role once per turn (day-night cycle).

You do this by sending me a PM with the subject
Micro xxx: exchange role
. What's in the body is not important. I will handle requests on a first come, first served basis. You hget a new role PM for every request, so make sure to check your inbox before you start posting.

Also, keep in mind that the use of active abilities remains the same: you can only use one each turn (unless the role PM states otherwise). You can use an ability and exchange your role, but then you won't be able to use any abilities you may have gotten for the remainder of the turn.

I myself will exchange the current contents of the mystery box for a new role regularly. Depending on the timing of your request, you may end up with a new role, or someone else's discarded role. I have no hard rule for how often and at what times I exchange the contents of the box, but it's probably going to be roughly once a day at variable times.

Roles I put in the box, and the ones you start with, are randomly generated. I won't go into detail, but in general: there is a pool of roles / abilities, and a pool of modifiers. They're rolled separately, so you will get a role, which may be vanilla, with a good chance of a modifier, though you can end up with no modifier. The majority of roles and mods are familiar, though there are a few original and set-up specific ones. I'm not going crazy for the first mystery box mafia, I'll save my grand idea roles for a potential sequel. The mods range from beneficial, to restrictions, to negative utility.

I intend to be flexible with the actual role and mod pool, and the chance percentages. I'll disclose full details in the dead thread, so if you're dead, and feel like discussing the mechanics, you may end up help tweaking the mystery box.
