I'm not a professional but I have something to say as I worked with UX teams.

In my opinion its better to have chatroom without different types of users. people need to feel equal in a messenger or chatroom. But I don't think that keeping the moderation colors for moderators brings that much of hard feelings.

I guess its not the best approach but its not something to argue about this hard.

I'm a Ph.D. + equivalent in UX. More than 40 US patents. More good outcomes for sitechat than bad from that action, provable via some fairly extensive math which I won't bore you with here.

As another super experienced professional UX dick measurer, the chat is fine without the colors bc anything important enough to be in a different color will be on the forums anyway, not the site chat which some users have disabled altogether ;)

I got a good idea.

So, we have that hydra/alt acct activation thread in the help section, and it seems activating a hydra is a lot of work for the admins.

What if there was an option to create a hydra acct with both heads usernames specified (and presumably, you'd have to give at least one correct password for one of the heads).

This idea wouldn't work for 3 heads, but 2 is generally the norm, and this could in the long run decrease the admins' burden with activating hydra accts.

I mean

in theory

If you make a hydra you just list it as an alt of yours

Then it doesn't have to be activated

Crazy thought I know

But what if my partner does something really stupid.....

I'd rather it not be associated so closely to my main.

If that is a reasonable and viable action that the admins wouldn't mind players doing (specifying hydras aas alts) then I'd suggest at least making it say Alt/Hydra

When you're asked to fill in "why you came to MafiaScum" in the signup section, it says "if you are an alt
/hydra
, please list your mains". Thus, while it is signed up to only using the one user's username and password, both users are associated with the account, and plus admins aren't exactly going to ban you because your other head did something stupid when the slot is a hydra.

True.

My only Q is why does it take so long to activate the acct?

Like I don't even think what I'm saying is a "way to get around having to get activation"

I'm fairly sure it's what you're expected to do.

Activation isn't done just because they feel like it, it's because a user creates an account which shares an IP address with an existing user's account (and haven't listed it as an alt or the like), and the admin has to confirm it to be able to track that account and prevent one player playing using two different accounts, to give one example.

So they usually confirm whether (a) it is an alt/hydra and the user just forgot to enter that category or (b) they are claiming to be a separate user (and close eyes are kept on them both).

It depends on who remembers to check the activation thread and/or their inbox. Activating an account also involves steps that are unwieldy on a mobile device, so even if someone was aware that an account needed activation, they'd need to be able to do it.

If you hard refresh, that issue will be fixed.

As for alts/hydra, the plan is eventually to allow users to manage the associations themselves after registration has occurred.

Request: Make site chat more mobile friendly

At least find a way to make single tap work the same as left click pls. It shouldn't be hard, assuming it's mostly coded in JavaScript.

(And, yes, I realize that technically, site chat got technically disabled for mobile, but that doesn't mean you cannot use it on mobile. All you got to do is Request Desktop Site.)

Tbh, mobile on this site is fucking horrific. I appreciate that it's hard and all, and I'm not trying to be a dick about it, but yeah, it's rough as guts.

It's functional but it's just the desktop site on my phone. It's far from optimised, and it's far from easy to read. On tablets, sure it's great, but on mobile there's a lot of scrolling and zooming as the focus shifts around the page.

Uh it's been on 3 different phones so I dunno.

Does anyone else actually have a mobile optimised site? For me it's just the desktop site minus sitechat?
