It's best to check the site about once a day. It depends on how many newbie sign up, and when the queue is updated but a bunch of newbie games just started and some of the earlier people who signed up might not remember to check the site so you will likely get pulled into one of their places before a game starts if they don't show up within 3 days of their game starting.
While you wait it can be fun to read completed games around the site, a newbie game or two to give you an idea of what to expect.

I've found it's most helpful to check at least once a day - if you prefer more specifically, then at least once every 24 hours. Also check your email because by default, FM sends messages to your email account.

I've played a couple of times before, with people im familiar with, and things got touchy fast for me...comments of a somewhat personal nature were directed at me by a certain player and i found it hard to divorce myself from my emotions, i also felt awful when i made a push on certain players as i found it hard to do so without inevitably introducing personal angles to your criticism of the way they're acting or playing the game. I found playing with people you're familiar with awkward and uncomfortable, which is why I'm never going to try that again.
but I really love the concept of the game itself...I wanted to try playing with complete strangers to see if It's more fun/less uncomfortable than my past experiences with the game
