The servers crated last night under the strain; but things seem to be back up now. I'm lucky, my work has three item spawn points and they refresh every five minutes, sooo.

(Also if you live in a big city, every single transit stop is a spawn)

It only does login-required during server instability. During off peak times it'll seamlessly log you in on launch at all times.

Went for a 10k walk; broke the 500 CP barrier twice. Good times. Painting my city yellow.

SO here's how to actually trace something that shows up on "nearby"

First, select it so it's the only pokemon showing on your bottom right white bar.

Walk a very slow circle.

When the white bar flashes GREEN that means you're walking in the right direction.

Repeat until it shows 1 or 0 footprints. Then walk one last circle. The pokemon will show up.

The grind is real. Baited a stop at my workplace and amusingly a bunch of co-workers showed up to that corner of the building.

I have public transit and a big city. I'd be willing to bet damn near EVERYTHING is available in my area within a 30 mile radius.

Like the sheer number of poke-stops you can hit by hopping on the L is insane. I get 25-30 pokestops each direction going to/from work easily.

SO here's how to actually trace something that shows up on "nearby"

Rustling grass just indicated a pokemon within an area; it's not in that specific spot.

You also get them when leveling up; so you can start a chain once you get to a city where you CAN level up.

Lots of Ingress players on reddit are saying that this is nothing new; their servers were always toasted for that too.


If nothing else, TPCI won't let this stand very long.

Also Nintendo stock price hit the 25% growth maximum and got trading shut down this morning.


Fucking INSANE. Something like 7 billion dollars in the past four days of growth.

It's really easy to grind levels. Just catch a shitton of weedle/caterpie/pidgey; pop a lucky egg, then evolve a shitton of them in one go; you get 1k experience per evolution with the egg active. You can gain like 3-4 levels in one go.

It's based on the highest concerntration of cell phones on average for spawn points.


Check cell phone stores, bus stops, amusement park lines.

Hit 110 on the pokedex today. At this point any further progress will come from driving out of town to various nests.

Yeah nests shift every patch or so based on pokedex number. For example; all dratini spawns might shift to eevee spawns; then to magmar spawns. There's a subreddit tracking those and from what they can tell; they're just using a simple "every nest spawns X pokedex positions down" approach each time.

You can hatch exclusives from other regions... if the egg was obtained IN that other region. Eggs are "determined" upon acquiring them, not upon hatching.

Not just one egg. All the event pokestops will be dropping special 2KM eggs. My assumption is they'll be 10k eggs but only need 2k steps. There's a walking circle in the park that they'll have set up.
