Yeah I was not into it at all at first, my train of thought went like "Meh I dunno there's no real combat and the system is weird and I just don't see the appeal and okay maybe I'll download it and pick squirtle and HOLYSHITACATERPIEYES"
also I'm super sad that there was a bulbasaur near my apartment when I first downloaded the game and I didn't know how to do anything and by the time I got ready to go outside it was gone ;-;

the servers are down right now, though, nothing will change for you until they fix it. You'd get a "servers are down" screen if you closed the app and re-logged in.
Also, got a Squirtle from a 2km egg. I haven't found any info on km/egg correlations yet.
I picked Squirtle as my starter so it's cool that I got another one for the candies but I would really like a bulbasaur.
So what's the longest you guys have walked since GO came out?
I've done about 15km in 3 days and I know that's not a LOT but it's a lot for me. My legs are sore as heck.
I added to a gym that had recently been taken over by my team at 1 am, took me forever to get a pokemon in because my guys are all weaklings. But I finally did it, and collected my 10 coins. An hour later and the lvl 5 gym had already been defeated. :<
I have not tried turning my game upside down, but I do generally cock the phone to the side to get a straight throw after using a berry since those cause curveballs.

Battles are also a bit more balanced with today's update which has averaged out the DPS, so type advantages are a bit more meaningful and you can't just win everything with a Vaporeon.
Gotta agree with the first point made here, Pokemon's battle mechanics have always been lackluster. At least with the battle system in GO, if you're good enough you could theoretically never take damage. Which is kind of a cool challenge in itself. But I don't feel like the main focus on this game is battling anyway, and I doubt most people spend their GO time at gyms. At least, no one I know really bothers with them unless they know they can quickly get a mon in for the 10g.
My friend started the game when I was level 20, and in 1 week she's higher level than me because she used all her lucky eggs to their full potential. I want to lucky egg again but I only have 41 potential evolutions, I need 18 more so I can go for 60 in the 30 min timespan.
Pidgey's are being reaaaaaaaaaaaal assholes though. The higher level you are, the harder even lower level pokemon are to catch it seems. :/
why is this even really a debate when you get 2 eggs at level 20 anyway? Use them early, and then use them late.
Unless the idea is to save ALL of your eggs until 2x, which seems silly. Though I don't think it's worth it to use them if you can't at least get close to their full potential. My first egg I wasted because I didn't do the math and only got 12 or so evolutions in. I still gained a ton of levels because I was out catching new pokemon and using pokestops, but with patience I could have gained more.
