{ROUND 02: BRAWL}

Chain Reaction

Chain Reaction is a game of wordplay first run by RedCoyote in the 2014 Game Show Marathon, and continues to be run by him in Mish Mash today.

This challenge will take place
live
, meaning at a time when all four competitors in a match can be online.

GAME RULES

Object
  • Two teams attempt to guess at compound words or phrases that are revealed one letter at a time. Successful guesses yield money and the team with the most money at the end of the game wins.

How to Play
  • There are four total chains during the main game. Each chain will consist of seven words that can be strung together to form a "chain". All connecting words in the chain will be two-word phrases or compound words that relate to one another somehow.
  • After a dice-based coin flip, the veteran of the team that wins the toss will choose a word to have the first letter revealed for.
  • Players do not have to have a letter revealed if they don't want to do so. Additionally, I will not reveal the last letter of a word. If we reach the final letter, I will use an underscore ( "_" ) to signify that there is only one remaining letter. If both teams are unable to guess a word after all but the last letter is revealed, the word is revealed and neither team earns money for that word.
  • This is where our version of the game begins to deviate. Once a letter is revealed, all players race to give the answer as quickly as possible, and the only the first player to get the correct answer will score points for their team, and will choose where the next letter is to be revealed.
    Bolding
guesses is encouraged, but it's not required. If incorrect, that player may no longer guess on that word until everyone has given a guess, even after more letters are revealed. If a player does not know the word, they may say
    No Guess
    /
    Pass
. After all players have guessed or passed on a word, or once 2 minutes have gone by since the last letter reveal, the team that got the last word will choose where the next letter is to be revealed.
  • A player cannot help their partner in any way if he/she has already used up his/her own guess on a word. There can also be no communication outside of this thread regarding the challenge after it has begun.
  • A player must spell the word precisely in their guess. Adding/missing an extra letter (such as an 's') or using the wrong form/tense of a word will be an incorrect guess. I will make exceptions in rare circumstances (e.g. different spellings of the word based on British/American English).
  • Players may only make guesses after a letter is revealed, and they may only make guesses on the word that has just had a letter revealed.
  • In round one, each correct word is worth $100, round two words are worth $200 and words in round three are worth $300. Whichever team is behind going into a round picks the first word for the next round (in the event of a tie, the team who did not start the last chain starts the next chain). In the fourth round (known as the "Betting Round"), the team in control must make a wager between $100 and $500 before asking for a letter. Whoever gets the word correct adds that wager to their score, while any wrong answers subtract the wager from the offending team's score. A team automatically loses if they go broke, and the game ends immediately.
  • If the fourth round ends in a tie, the two teams will each be given a "speed chain" of four words. The two outermost words will be revealed, and the two innermost words will have only the first letter revealed. Both teams must select a player to represent them, and that player will have 3 minutes to PM the moderator the answer to the speed chain. Speed chains will continue until one player does not come up with the correct answers.

Just a heads up: Mist is still V/LA until Sunday and Drench will be playing for her in this elimination, if that affects your decision.

I would say an hour, it's 5 words per round so it shouldn't take too long.

The PTs have all been set up and sent to the participants. Good luck.

If all four participants in a match can't find a time to all be online within 48 hours, we can try and make it two one-on-one matches, where the scores of both players in a pair are totaled together.
