There are more than 1 on 1 conversations and the lobby. You can make public rooms and private rooms. I think it's reasonable to request such topics be moved out of the lobby, I think saying they can't be talked about at all is ridiculous.
zora did say in site chat that this rule is for public chatrooms.

Very easy.
Just make a room with a password and post the password in SE. Passworded rooms are hidden from those who are not in the room, even in the room list.

Yeah. I should probably amend this: if it's a publicly accessible room, it's GD. If any user can just join it, it's public. If you want to create a private chat room with a password or talk 1v1, we're not generally going to police those.

amend this with "unless the person being hit up for private site chat/private messages has expressed uncomfortableness in being a recipient" and it is a winner.
In post 33, zoraster wrote:yeah although that's true of PMs and such too.
it is a fine line and I do not envy you. you don't want to negate the report function nor do you want to negate pple pming or chatting up each other in order to work out their personal differences privately.
I really appreciate the time you guys/girlz spend on trying to err on the side of caution and that there is dialogue about it.
There is a big difference between speakeasy content and a cesspool. I'm fine with a mod presence to stop the later. Have you actually gotten requests from site chat users about the content?

Having talked to you in private now, yes? After finishing talking to you I looked into sitechat and saw them discussing drugs. A blue mod even seemed to endorse them to me. Is that content that would be allowed in GD?

Are you talking to me? I didn't just start this thread out of nowhere, chamber.
I was. I've heard, in the vaguest of details, what the catalyst for this choice was and I now disagree more strongly than before I knew. I again don't know the details, but this rules change wont stop such an event from happening again, it will at best move where it happens. Nuke the fuck out of someone if they are being intentionally inappropriate with minors. Don't punish everyone else for it.
To clarify again because someone privately contacted me. I don't know details. Its possible no adults were intentionally inappropriate with minors in this case.
a little bird told me it might be that too, in which case, i agree with chamber. nuke the offender, and let the rest of the adults continue speaking freely
how about:
"site chat" rules:
talk about speakeasyish stuff in private rooms.
"lobby" rules:
don't talk about speakeasyish stuff, save that for private rooms.
private rooms rules:
general mafiascum website rules for PMs apply, i.e. don't be illegal. don't be a dick. don't harass people. etc.
an officially sanctioned "speakeasy" room would be good, so as not to splinter discussions into a bunch of private rooms solely created to escape the lobby
that "speakeasy" room could be set up to show by default for anyone with speakeasy access, and be completely hidden for everyone else.
sounds good to me.
should satisfy all parties.
shouldn't be too laborous for a coder to implement a page load check in site chat for speakeasy access and then show the room.

I don't think the Lobby got even remotely close to a cesspool. For me it's a place to unwind after a day at work and I like to troll around with people I interact rather seriously otherwise, through mafia games. I like getting few beers in the evening and having some chitchat about everything and nothing and I like acting immature cause I feel comfortable among our little club and I need a place to unload stress after a whole day of being strict and official at work. Looking at average age on this site, I don't think anybody should get offended by this, and although I understand some people prefer mature discussions on important topics (these happen in the Lobby too), I think the chat format is best for quick talks without obligation. Rules deprive it of its (however questionable it may be) charm.
