Quag, it may be helpful for you not to read your Role PM, but it seriously disadvantages the rest of us, since you don't know what your alignment is on Day 1, and, if you're scum, you don't know who your buddies are, that makes all of your posts on Day 1 completely useless for trying to find your alignment/possible scumbuddies. Even if you're town, it disadvantages the town, because now, everybody's talking about you not reading your Role PM, rather than discussing about who's scum, it just wastes time and clogs the thread, and puts unnecessary pressure on yourself.

I say we not worry about Quagmire's role PM at this point because as you say, it is what we're talking about instead of scum-hunting. We can try to find scumtells the same way as we do every game, except that one player doesn't know his role. This gives us an advantage because he's playing as a townie. If he changes his playstyle significantly tomorrow, or again says that he didn't read his role PM, we can lynch him then, but right now, he's on our side, no matter what his role PM says.

That's one way to interpret it. There are more cynical interpretations, especially if he's derailing every wagon, know what I mean? The only time he pushes, it's for pressure, and he states this explicitly. He's adamant about not pushing for a lynch. To do it to that extent, and that consistently, is weird. Is it scummy? I share a love-hate relationship with that book. Never read it. There's a café at the local bookstore where I sometimes go. That book sits right in front of me everytime I'm at place, on the philosophy shelf. I pick it up, put it back down. Pick it up again another time, contemplate buying it, put it down. Next time I read a few pages, put it back down again. I keep harassing everyone who has read it to tell me wth it is about.

Quagmire isn't scummy to me, just incredibly anti-town in this game. Not by not reading his role pm, but by claiming it, and refusing to contribute or to ask for a replacement. Still, WIFOM all you like, we can't point to him as definite scum. TS main point against him is that he may have read his role from the beginning, and truth be told she is pissed that he jerked us around for 40 pages and wants to eliminate him for the sake of the happy times.

Erg0 and Yosarian, on the other hand, seem very cool-headed about this and have thought things out in a similar fashion to me, albeit more calmly and -don't laugh- profoundly.
