Trogg is from LoE, so it's staying until 2018.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

Tuskar Totemic wouldn't be too terrible, honestly. The more aggressive looks of the deck can run without it, even, since it's a bit "slow."

Totem Golem is a huge hit, though.

The rotation will come in 2017 and nail TGT and LoE. OG, Kara and "unnamed large expansion" will be the 2016 block to go with 2017.

It looks like they're probably trying to settle into either a "2 large, 1 small" or "2 large, 2 small" pattern, judging from how they've done things. I think the next rotation will drastically increase the popularity of wild. We're losing a lot of staple decks (including Reno). On the other hand obviously 2 large and 1 small expansion is enough to carry a meta, so we're not to badly off.

LoE came out earlier this year though, I thought? They said sets stay around for two years, which would imply that it's BRM and TGT that are rotating out, so the next standard will be LoE+WoToG+ONiK and then whatever comes out next year. Who knows, though, since this is going to be the first real rotation.

Nope, LOE was end of 2015. So the 2017 rotation will see BRM+TGT+LOE going.

2018 rotation will be WOTOG+ONIK+end of year expansion.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle this year-to-year thing, as far as timing release types.

The release cycle has been: Expansion, Adventure, Expansion, Adventure, Expansion, Adventure, Expansion, Adventure. But the cutoffs for standard make it:

This rotation, we only lost one adventure and one big set.

Next rotation, we're losing two adventures and one big set.

But right now, we have one big set and an adventure under our belts. Will Blizzard really release another adventure before the end of the year, back to back with another adventure? They've never done that before. And if they release a full-blown expansion, it would have to be different from TGT/GVG/WOTOG, because those expansions were huge and the investment into this late year expansion would be less valuable over time.

It seems like they should just rotate out whatever the last set out was when the new one comes in; that seems like a better solution for making sure cards get equal time in the limelight, rather than basing it around the calendar year.

But yeah, if we lose LoE as well, then we're saying goodbye to Anyfin, Rafaam, Entomb (cue Priests crying), Reno Jackson (kiss a Warlock archetype goodbye), Excavated Evil (haha Priest decks), Ethereal Conjurer, Elise Starseeker (Woo control matchups), Keeper of Uldaman, Tomb Pillager, Forgotten Torch, Brann Bronzebeard, Fierce Monkey, Mounted Raptor, Unearthed Raptor, Dark Peddler, Museum Curator (haha Priest decks), Sir Finley, and Tunnel Trogg. That's a lot of staple cards for various decks that are leaving the meta.

So now we have to figure out if Priest is going to be any good without Entomb or Excavated Evil, and whether Shaman will still be a class without Tunnel Trogg or Totem Golem.

So are you suggesting some thing like: big expansion in late winter, adventure in summer, and a mid size expansion is late fall, end of the year?

It's a difficulty Magic has faced as well, with the small sets always getting less time than the large ones.

The question is "how often do you want to make people rebuild their decks?" Since losing even a single key card can trash a deck completely.

The answer of "once a year" is a reasonable one.

So you Barnes, get baby Y'Shaarj, then real Y'Shaarj, and then nothing?

This deck is actually pretty fun. A guy on r/CompetitiveHS hit top 50 with it, so I decided to try it out (although I don't know what his exact list is b/c the link isnt working for me)

Basically the way the deck wins if the Barnes/Y'Shaarj combo fails is traps+Eaglehorn bow and/or ball of spiders and/or Call of the Wild

I suppose you're getting basically 14/15 on turn 4 if the deck actually works out, though I imagine you're getting really sad if you draw your Y'Shaarj before dropping Barnes or if the opponent can remove it on their turn. I imagine Executes and Polymorphs and the like are going to be huge problems, since you aren't drawing them out otherwise.

RNG can suck a cock.

8 games of Shaman so far today, and I haven't seen a Tunnel Trogg in my opening hand yet (with very aggressive mulliganing).

Blizzard made too many RNG cards that have meh downside with amazing upside.

Barnes is probably the worst offender, but even Tuskarr Totemic can just win you the game at best while being fine at worse.
